"We stopped in Fontainebleau especially to eat here. The food was very well presented; beautiful and tasty - worth the 1 star Michelin. Unfortunately, it was marred by the bad service. The first server seemed stressed and irritated. He was quite young, and you got the impression that he wanted to be anywhere but there. Throughout lunch I observed how the servers made very little eye contact with customers, almost avoiding tables in case they were asked for something. One customer, sitting on his own at a table opposite, even had to get up and ask for something, because he could not get the attention of any of the servers. We asked for olive oil instead of butter with our bread. It turned out to be bitter and rancid, and when we asked a female server to change it, she rolled her eyes and tutted. However, it was quickly apparent that it was off, so we got some new olive oil. Each course was beautifully presented with a Japanese influence. Quite exquisite. One waiter who was excellent, French - of Korean descent; I believe his name was Antoine; he saved the day with his friendly and professional manner."

Perfect balance between dishes and wines. A real pleasure that the staff can share. A little attention for our wedding anniversary at the end of the meal. (see photo) View menu

Excellent restaurant. We were there a week ago. The blend of Asian and European flavors is very subtle. The decoration is very pleasant and the staff is very friendly. Very good price quality ratio. We recommend.

A wonderful restaurant with an exceptional and talented chef! I’ve been seeing him for a very long time and it’s always a great pleasure to go even if it’s a little far from home. We go with our eyes closed and enjoy it to spend a good time in the city so pleasant with the magnificent castle

We had lunch this afternoon. We took a 5 metre and wine stop. It was our first starred restaurant. We were not disappointed between the dishes, the wines, the service and the details accompanying them. We know where there is a real starred restaurant in Fontainebleau: this is the AXEL. Thanks again for those few hours of happiness. View menu

My husband and I came here for our anniversary as a treat. We ordered the taster menu, which although expensive, was absolutely worth it! The service is perfect, we didn't wait for anything, but at the same time we didn't feel rushed. The food was exquisite, every course looked beautiful and I enjoyed every mouthful! Would absolutely go again.

While planning our trip to Fontaineblue, I checked TripAdvisor for the #1 restaurant and made a booking in advance. Best food-related decision ever. It's really a shame that some of the reviews speak so lowly of the staff, because the chef who came to personally greet us was obviously a proud and humble man. I've been to a few Michelin starred restaurants before, including a 3-star one in London. Nothing, NOTHING every was this good. While the pictures I took only do it half justice, by the time dessert arrived I had to take a few minutes to recompose myself because the dishes, one after the other, spoke to me in a way no food has ever done so before. It reset my expectations for fine dining...
