"Lorsqu'on se targue de taquiner la gastronomie, il faut veiller à être simple et précis... Or, cet établissement nous a semblé se noyer dans trop de complications, voire d'esbroufe, pour délivrer une cuisine efficace. Même si le service est très aimable et le temps d'attente beaucoup moins long que les notes sur la carte le font redouter... Le problème, c'est la juxtaposition des saveurs, qui brouille totalement le message culinaire et gustatif. Le millefeuille de tomate, saumon, crabe, comportait également des graines de cardamome... Trop de saveurs tue la saveur. On finit par une assiette où tout se mélange et on est déçu... Idem pour "l'ambroisie" de volaille. Pourquoi faire simple quand on peut faire compliqué ? Ici se mêlent dans l'assiette des champignons, de la volaille, de la ratatouille, des champignons, des pommes dauphines, une purée de patates douces à la coco... Trop c'est trop. Le palais y perd le Nord et finit par déceler de gros désaccords de saveurs là où l'intention est louable. Hélas cette complication inutile s'accompagne de prix soutenus... On a été un peu déçus."

"Despite being fully booked, the lady who greeted us soon whisked an extra table and chairs out for us and sat us down. We ordered the entrecôte and veal whilst the children both opted for fish and chips. Not a scrap of food was left...on our table both meats were tender, tasty and perfectly cooked and the fish was also good. The chips and salad are often a poor side, but not here both of these were excellent. Despite having hardly any room for dessert, we still squeezed in some ice cream, a tarte tatin and chocolate fondant between us. The lady who served us was very warm, welcoming and great with the children and the bill was very reasonable. Hope we get time to go back again before we have to go home."

"A friend booked this restaurant a week earlier for 11 of us to have a meal before watching a performance in the square, we were booked for 7pm allowing us one and a half hours to eat. My friend even went over at 6pm on...the night to confirm everything was ok and was told yes no problem. When we all arrived at 7pm there was no table, after a little discussion an apology was made and we were seated 15 minutes later. We eventually ordered and our food finally arrived at 8.20 when we should have been taking our seats for the show. Food was nice enough but we had to rush so no desserts etc. My friend explained to the owner we were not happy with the experience but they were not interested in admitting fault or compensating in anyway. Definately would not recommend this restaurant and I dont think they deserve their position in the beautiful square."

"Don't be put off by what appears to be the rather naff pseudo English name Le Home for the hotel part this establishment. Au Pere William is the name of the restaurant and quite nicely puns on the Williams pear (which is included in one of their salads there's a lot of fruit in other dishes too). I'm not sure they intended the reference to the Lewis Carroll rhyme. Basically, this is a delightfully cheery place on the very western edge of the old town of Belves. From the main square, wander along the rue Manchotte and when you come to the end it's diagonally opposite you on the right across the Place Croix des Freres. Charming service of a number of menus between 20 and 30 euros and a well formed carte containing a range of Perigordian fare, including a particularly flavoursome magret de canard with peaches. Slightly cliched presentation (unnecessary balsamic squiggles even at the edge of a white fish dish, and a tile for the dessert which seems to be de rigueur now), but all in all a very pleasurable experience. To cap it all, visit the cleanest restaurant toilets in this part of France!! Well done, mother William!!"
