"We went to this restaurant last Saturday, 1st October. We walked in and waited for a waiter to show us where to sit, we waited almost 5 mins, when the waiter finally showed us to a table, it was one in the back area near the toilets. The crockery looked very nice on the table, but we noticed it was dusty, so, we wiped the plates over with our napkins, and when we looked at our napkins there was a fair bit of black on them. We then wiped our cutlery and again there was black smudges on our knives and forks, and again we wiped out our wine glasses, yes to more black marks. We continued to wait for a waiter to bring over a menu, it never happened, we waited around 10 mins, trying to catch the eye of one of the waiters, but they never made eye contact. We decided then we'd go elsewhere, so up we got and pottered out.The so called service was awful, and the tableware was worse, wont go back here again."

Searched where to have lunch. The restaurant was empty. But after having eaten lunch there, we were delighted! delicious! Seven-year-olds fell in love with snails and sole! Thank you!

Meal for two with a carafe of house wine came to over a 100 Euros, so quite frankly expected a higher standard of cuisine. Very average cooking and sadly over priced. There is a lot of competition in Honfleur so would recommend eating elsewhere.

Had a lovely lunch in their outdoor covered patio. Fine dining, lovely presentation, professional bilingual staff. Excellent sea bass, and lobster salad. Fine dessert and good wine. Quiet, elegant, charming. A delight. Owner made an effort to accommodate us late in the lunch sitting. Enjoyed it immensely. View menu

A public holiday so we 5 old school friends did not expect too much. How we were wrong. Good and pleasant service and nice atmosphere in the covered and heated outside. Starters of fruit de mere, snails etc all better than many other HONFLEUR places I have visited. Fish on stick, duck all on set menu 28euros and much enjoyed by the team! Sweet choices varied and well prepared. We will return.....!

We had lunch here on December 31st, it was very chilly out but lovely and cosy in the restaurant with a open log fire. The food was delicious, we had seafood to start and the Chicken and Mushroom for mains, all very good. Would have been good to have a child seat or high chair for our grandson, but we were offered a cushion which helped. The Waiter was a very cheerful and helpful chap and made us feel most welcome. Will go there again!

I do not know how a restaurant can be very good one day and terrible the nextWe dined here on Sunday night and it was not busy so naturally the service was good but so was the food, for 22e I had 6 shellfish in half shell with parsley butter which was enjoyable followed by pot au mer which was very good indeed, then apple pie and ice cream to finishThe restaurant has a bit of class about it as well.I certainly would recommend on my experience and would definitely return if in Honfleur again View menu

The menu outside the restaurant looked inviting. We entered and were left waiting for several minutes, one waiter told us his colleague would attend to us. We were seated in the back room, where the crockery, table cloth and cutlery were all covered in dust, as though the table hadn't been used for some time. Without being given menus, We waited over 15 minutes whilst the two waiters passed by, serving other tables to the front of the restaurant. We tried to attract the attention of these gentlemen, who choose to ignore the 5 of us. We then got up and left. even as we approached the doorway, they didn't acknowledge our presence!

We had one of the best meals of our lives at L'Escale. My husband had sea bass, crusted with crumbs and served with vegetables. I had Poulet Normandaise and it was wonderful, although it was very, very rich (loads of butter and cream). The little potatoes that came with it were perfect. We had a very crisp Chablis with our lunch and it was perfect for these two dishes. The waiter was very attentive to what appeared to be regular customers, and a little less so with us (I had to ask for water three times, even though I asked in French). But the experience overall was fabulous. The decor is charming inside, and the covered outdoor dining was comfortable even on a cold and windy day.

"My sister and I had dinner at La Tortue on May 2, and it was among the best meals that we had during our 2-week holiday in Normandy. I started with a creamy foi gras with fig and apple chutney. My sister skipped the entree. Before our plats were delivered, they gave each of us a shot glass with calvados "soup" with cinnamon. Amazing! My sister then had steak served over mashed potatoes and butternut squash, with some interspersed veggies and a balsamic glaze drizzled over everything. My plat was the same except with duck breast braised in apple cider. Yum! The piece de resistance was baked apples in a filo dough alongside vanilla and bourbon ice cream served on a sea of caramel sauce. Words fail me.... A lovely, inexpensive Cote du Rhone (from Chateau Saint Roman 2014) was among the best Cote du Rhones that I've had and complemented everything perfectly. The restaurant itself is cozy and warm, and there were several local residents eating there that night, always a good sign in my book. The service was friendly, prompt, and inconspicuous, and I loved that the food incorporated Normandy specialties. (I wish they added the calvados soup with cinnamon to the menu proper!)We had this meal near the beginning of our Normandy holiday, and we expected to have many such wonderful meals in the days to come. This one, however, turned out to be among the best of our trip."
