"Went here on the 24th June 2018. There was 2 lovely members of staff working. One of the ladies was called Shannon and she was brilliant. Did not get the name of the other lady but she was lovely. The food was very nice and the place itself was bright and airy. I will go back there when I next visit Scotland."

The ambiance was beautiful and cozy on a chilly, rainy day. Clare was a lovely person and a significant asset to the establishment. She took the time to chat with us and was very friendly.

Very well organised with social distancing restrictions and friendly helpful staff. The drinks were excellent and pretty well priced and the food well presented but not as good as previous visits View menu

I had to wait 25 minutes to be served, and then nearly 35 minutes for my food. To make matters worse, my drink order was changed without any prior notice, and the burger I received was unpleasant.

I went to see the best drag performance in Scotland. The cost per person was £30 to £40. The service was excellent, earning a 5 out of 5, and the atmosphere was also fantastic, receiving a 5 out of 5.

"I’m not quite sure where to start with this as I’ve never experienced such poor service in a restaurant before but I’ll try. So we were a party of 10 celebrating my mother in law’s 60th. My partner isn’t from Dumfries and Galloway so just told me he’d looked this place up and decided to book it. I hadn’t really heard of it and had initially wanted to go to the Bank but after looking at reviews of Truffles and seeing people speak highly of the food I thought let’s give it a try. I noticed many speaking about how awful the owner was but I thought surely he can’t be that bad if people are still going and people are still leaving good reviews. How wrong I was! Another warning sign I should have noticed was that we initially booked in for the Friday but changed to the Saturday and they were able to accommodate that easily last minute so clearly aren’t busy. We were running 15mins late. I called to let them know and apologise. The waitress who answered the phone was accepting of this and said it was ok. On arriving the owner ‘greeted’ us. I again apologised and he shrugged his shoulders but let us in. We all sat down and he immediately came to ask us if we wanted drinks. We were looking at the drinks menu and discussing what we wanted when he repeated in a slow and aggressive tone DO.YOU.WANT.ANY.DRINKS??! It was extremely awkward. My dad asked about red wine and he used his notepad to lean over my dad and aggressively hit the menu and point to a wine on the list. We ordered drinks which included 2 pints of beer. As he walked away we all felt very uncomfortable and decided we did not want to spend our money in such a venue when the atmosphere was cold and aggressive. We all decided to leave. My partner spoke to the owner letting him know his front of house manner was appalling and that we’d be leaving. He said he didn’t “understand people” and that he expected us to pay for the pints that had been poured. I gave him a £20 note and he aggressively gave it back to me, stating he had no money in the till to give me change and swiftly snatched the pints back and put them behind the bar. We then left and were politely accommodated in the Bank next door (which I would highly recommend). As we left, the waitress apologised on our way out. I actually felt bad leaving her in such a cold and horrible environment. That owner should not be front of house. He is rude. He is right, he doesn’t understand people and has no people skills whatsoever. I would avoid this place like the plague and go next door to the Bank! (The one star is for the waitress who we had to leave behind)"

"My husband and I got married at the blacksmith shop this week and stayed at this hotel with our wedding guests. We would never recommend this place to anyone looking to get married. We have come away disgusted with the way we was treated on our wedding day by certain staff members. The rudest person of them all was a lady called Alice who worked in the restaurant. She made me cry on my own wedding day with how she kept trying to start arguments from the moment we arrived for our wedding meal. She kept prodding us with sarcastic remarks all the time was constantly watching us to try and make an issue over literally anything. She was absolutely vile with the way she thought she could talk to us. The woman even got a tape measure out on our wedding day for social distancing on tables (long story short: mine and the grooms table was so far away from our guests we had to shout to the tables it was a joke they went past the 2M ruling!!! So we moved our table slightly closer to our guests so we could actually hear them and she then had the cheek to get a tape measure out UNBELIEVABLE. This is not how to treat guests especially on their wedding day!! There is a way to speak to people and it certainly wasn’t this!! We then complained about her to another member of staff and it was a pack mentality in this hotel and she was allowed to talk to people however she wanted. I just wanted to add that other wedding parties in the restaurant was getting away with singing, standing up and mingling, music on their phone speakers but nope... this woman had it in for us all night. I think she took good pleasure out of getting an argument out of myself and my guests. Will never be coming back here. Just so grateful we had lovely friends and family there who made the day lovely for us otherwise this would of been a hell hole."
