"However, the en-suite bathroom in our room was quite small, with little space to dry off or get dressed. The service at the bar was excellent, and having Moretti on tap was a nice touch. The food was enjoyable too; we only ordered dirty fries and sticky toffee pudding, but both were very tasty. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, though. The bacon served on a brioche bun was actually just a regular sandwich. The full breakfast's toast was nice, and the mushrooms were delicious, but there was only a small serving. I enjoyed the flavors of the sausage and black pudding, but it was accompanied by a hash brown that wasn’t mentioned on the menu. I would have preferred to have that noted in advance. Despite these minor issues, I would not hesitate to stay here again, as the experience was idyllic and truly deserving of 5 stars."

I had the Queens Head burger for lunch, and it was absolutely excellent! The service was fantastic, and the atmosphere was pleasantly quiet. They also had a great selection of beers. I highly recommend it!

Ideal pub located on the outskirts of Penrith. I stayed there for a night while working, and the staff were kind enough to stay late to check us in, which we really appreciated after three long days on the road. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and a delicious breakfast was included. View menu

The food was excellent, and I appreciated that gluten-free options were clearly marked on the menu. When I inquired about how the food was prepared, the server was knowledgeable about celiac requirements. The portions were generous; I’m glad we skipped the starter because it wasn’t needed at all.

The food was excellent, and I appreciated that gluten-free items were clearly marked on the menu. When I inquired about food preparation, the server demonstrated a good understanding of coeliac requirements. The portions were generous, and I'm glad we decided against ordering a starter since it turned out to be unnecessary.

We stayed at this lovely old inn and ate lunch and dinner here. The staff were very well informed and clearly had an acute understanding of the need to avoid cross contamination. I had deliciously crispy fish and chips for lunch (dedicated fryer) and a very tasty burger with GF onion rings for dinner. I have coeliac so it was great to feel safe and eat delicious food. Our very lovely server noted that the chef and some of the other staff have various allergies and intolerances and so take this very seriously. The menu indicates what is naturally HF and what can be prepared to be GF. I definitely recommend the Queens Head Inn. View menu

We visited this charming old inn and enjoyed both lunch and dinner there. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and demonstrated a strong commitment to avoiding cross-contamination. For lunch, I had some wonderfully crispy fish and chips, prepared in a dedicated fryer, and for dinner, I indulged in a delicious burger accompanied by gluten-free onion rings. As someone with celiac disease, it was reassuring to feel safe while enjoying such tasty meals. Our lovely server informed us that the chef and some other staff members also have various allergies and intolerances, which helps them take these matters very seriously. The menu clearly indicates which items are naturally gluten-free and what...

Hello. I spent the night with my wife and we were very impressed with everything. I know some reviews say the rooms could be bigger if they rebuild the 300 year old house. the rooms were beautiful and very clean. eating was really nice and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. the pub was family oriented and the breakfast was abundant. it is certainly not her posh hoity toity. what I paid was really good and really delicious. the en. suite was really well done and the water was fantastic hot and fast. they have managed to create a beautiful room in a challenging conversion. a great place in a great location, we will be revisiting. ps mary was and is a wonderful employee member. in this...

"Renowned for its vertiginous landscape and breathtaking views the lake district has always been a firm favourite for the outdoor type. But in recent times Cumbria has quietly built a reputation as a first class foodie destination boasting the most Michelin star restaurants in a county outside London. We were keen to try the ambitious 1863 in Pooley Bridge proudly named after the date it was built. The modern version was welcoming and well furnished with plenty of interesting memorabilia to browse between courses. The 7 course tasting menu started with the regular amuse bouche, tasty but not stunning and there was a suprise glass of bubbles with the wine pairing. The opening venison tartare was splendid, packed in flavour with a welcome hazelnut texture contrast. All courses were excellent but the star of the show was undoubtedly the Creedy Carver duck, perfectly cooked, well seasoned, a crispy skin and accompanied with duck leg wrapped in savoy cabbage and pumpkin seeds. The wine pairings were well matched although the Rioja Blanco, with the halibut; was perhaps slightly over woody for my pallet. If there was one criticism the sommelier needs some work, particularly if there is ambition to join the Cumbrian elite with a star. The closing expresso was weak and my Balvenie 12 was wrecklessly delivered with a lump of ice but overall an enjoyable fine dining experience and well recommended."
