"The poor barman was running around like a headless chicken when we arrived, and the table had to be cleared before we could sit down. We had booked a table in the bar as the restaurant was full. He was very friendly and was doing his absolute best, but it was rather disorganised and clearly short staffed. The food was ok, but over priced for what we had a burger stack and a half sized portion of scampi and chips. Another staff member appeared at one point but made no attempt to say hello or ask if everything was ok, and was clearly talking negatively about another staff member in full hearing of us in the bar. Dessert was eye wateringly expensive for average items, the hazelnuts were stale and we seemed to have one strawberry sliced very thinly between us to serve as a garnish. Not awful, but not worth the effort to walk all the way down to the harbour and back up afterwards."

I had a superb steak, absolutely fantastic. I couldn’t fault anything about it other than the table I was on being by the door.

Great restaurant in a great hotel in a great special village. We both had the beautiful Spiced Duck fennel starter; i had the Lamb Rack my husband the Sirloin. Both melt in the mouth gorgeous. Well done to thd Chef!!!

The food here was overpriced and poor quality. We paid £8.95 for calamari that was far too thickly coated in what appeared to be breadcrumbs and overcooked. One member of our party also paid £14 for a tiny burger which didn't even have cheese. This is a restaurant that clearly trades solely on its location. We won't be returning unless the food standard improves.

Beautiful setting, when you have the weather this location is up there with the best in England. The food was just 'okay ', but considering the prices you 'd expect a bit more quality. It 's very busy so they can get away with it I guess. Terrific drink selection, great West Country ciders and beer on tap. Bar staff were good considering the pressure they were under with how busy it was.

We were told upfront there was a 30 minute wait for food and the food was bang on time. Amazing roll and the pizza was perfect for the children. We sat on the rocks and enjoyed a really tasty lunch. I have to say we found the meal great value, lovely food and well served on time. I don't think given you had a really busy day we could ask for anything more and no negatives from us. I would be back tomorrow if I could :

We booked over the phone before travelling to Clovelly village . It was pretty quiet in there but then it was a 1230 lunch . I had the Sunday roast and the missus had soup and bread . They were really hot and tasty and accompanied by a local pint made for a good lunch . Our waitress was lovely and we had quite a good chat with her loved her local accent as it was quiet . Certainly enjoyed our meal and a good warm up and dry out from the walk down in the rain . Recommended

This could be a dream restaurant, nestled in a quaint corner of the divine harbour setting of Clovelly. But for us it was a massive fail for multiple reasons. The inside is uninspiring, with little atmosphere at all. The food was very overpriced, with frozen chips used in a £25 main. The biggest problem however were the flies. Not one or two, but swarms of flies which ruined the experience for us. When we complained we were told there is nothing they can do. They begrudgingly gave us a little discount on the second time of asking and joked that the bar is much worse in the summer, so we probably won't recommend the bar either, which looks a little like a concrete tunnel, scruffy and slightly...

The Red Lion have been offering take out during these uncertain times, we visited this week with family and were overjoyed to find that the pandemic, lack of landrover service and the typical British drizzle seemed to have held the tourists off we had this beautiful village almost completely to ourselves. The men of the group were positively buzzing at the prospect of £1.50 pints of doombar, served in eco friendly compostable single use pint pots. There was a large selection on the take out menu, and thanks to the near constant fog and sea fret there was also an abundance of outside seating. We had fish and chips for grown ups and children delicious generous portions. I hope for the Red Lion...

The meals at restaurant are all takeaway due to the covid-19 restrictions which is fair enough although since the lifting of some of the restrictions we have had eaten in several places that have managed to provide an excellent food and service . We had the fish sharing platter most of it was overcooked and dry . I looked for some tartare sauce to make it more pleasant in the bag we were given with the cutlery etc but there was only vinegar. My partner went in to ask if there was any tartare sauce to be told -you will have to go back to the bar and pay for it. I used the toilet before making the long climb back up the cobbled hill , they were dirty toilet paper all over the floor no soap. Ob...
