"We were on holiday in Filey and wanted an evening meal for 5 adults and 2 children, one of the adults is a vegetarian so we choose our places quite carefully. We arrived one time and our table was ready, the 2 kids went off to play outside on the swings while we ordered and had a pre dinner drink. The starters we ordered were lovely and arrived promptly but there was a wait for the main course which was explained later. My rib eye steak was as good as I have ever had, tender, flavoursome and perfectly cooked, my daughters gammon, my wifes chicken, son in laws lamb shank were all reported as being excellent and very healthy portions, the vegetarian burger was said to be okay but not exceptional and she would choose on of the other vegetarian options next time we visit. The kids meals were just what they wanted, 3 sweets followed a couple more drinks and a coffee. The bill was an unbelievable £117, I have paid much, much more for food well below the standard set by the Spital Inn. The service was good and the wait staff very pleasant and the owner took the trouble to come round, apologise for the delay in our main course being served and explain that 2 staff had not turned up for work and he had been filling in. We all get problems in business but by taking the trouble to speak to us in person he has ensured that we will return."

Went for Sunday lunch, it was a fight against eating your food without the flies landing on it. The beer was flat, the food Luke warm and tasteless

This restaurant was a nice place to dine, we took advantage of the early bird menu which was great value for money. The service was spot on and the portions were huge.

Visited over easter break with family, the bar was child and dog friendly. Food excellent. The little shops attached where lovely and we came back next day for breakfast in the cafe. Will be visiting again and possibly staying on campsite too. View menu

Rang to book table for 6 but later changed to 8 they were extremely helpful. We sat in snug. They were quick with table service of drinks and the menu was big enough for everyone to find something to eat. Never been before but definitely come again. Pub grub was lovely and tasty. Exactly what I was expecting and more lovely place.

We stopped by this little gem on the way from a trip to the seaside. We are a family of five, with young children. The landlord was so very welcoming, took the time to speak to the children, and the whole place has a very welcoming, cosy warmth about it. The food was so fresh, traditional, superb value plentiful. We intend to visit again very soon. Really worthwhile.

Called in here a couple of times and what a gem of a place this is. The landlord and staff very welcoming and the food was great. I can highly recommend the battered haddock, the batter was one of the best I have had, crispy to the end. My husband could not fault his meal of the lamb shank on a bed of creamy mash. Another bonus is that it is very dog friendly too so our best mate can join us. Will definitely keep returning. View menu

We visited Spittal Inn for a weekend in October and found the food and hospitality to be excellent. We stayed in our Campervan in the well maintained field at the rear of the pub and ate in the restaurant on two evenings. The menu comprised traditional pub food, nicely done, sensibly priced and with attentive service. This is a lovely spot to stay, is just a short drive from Filey and is a well placed stopover for those travelling further up or down the coast. Highly recommended.

Me and my family visited her this morning, we are local and had never been before so decided to give it a go. We went to let the children have a play in the playground before we went in for something to eat. There was a Large wooden Fort with a large slide which my son was playing on, and he wanted his dad to go up and have a look and go down the slide. Now my husband is in no way a large man, and as he was coming down the slide, a man out of nowhere appeared shouting at us saying would you pay for that if you broke it, no you wouldn 't, your sort don 't, you 'd just walk away . I asked him what he meant by our sort, but all we got was a barrage of abuse. This was totally unacceptable in fro...

"The problem began with our arrival. We are 3 adults in our mid-60s and we had already climbed one set of steps to access the bar in the pub. We were escorted to our room up two more flights of narrow stairs. On entering our room, we could smell the damp in the room and discovered mould on walls behind furniture and in the corners of the window frames. We checked the prices of the evening meals on offer and there wasn't enough variety for our party and they were quite expensive. So we decided to eat out. I asked what time the pub closed and was told, when the last customer leaves. I thought that was a bit vague so I said that we would be back at 10-ish. We arrived back just after 10pm to find all entrances to the pub were fully locked up and we were unable to get in. I called the pub and, after a while, my call went to voicemail with a message that there was no one to answer my call. I left a voicemail, this was followed by another message to say that there was no one to respond to my voicemail! My party had got back into the car as it was raining and I drove to the front of the pub and sounded my horn for some time then drove to the back of the pub. At this point, a man appeared saying he had a message to come and let us in so, finally, we got in to the pub to access our room. We had an uncomfortable night but managed to get up for the early breakfast (great breakfast! and check-out. We raised all the damp and mould issues with the man who had let us in and, as one of us was asthmatic, told him that we would be leaving a poor review of the room and that they shouldn't book that room out to any one else until the issues were resolved."
