"Mahdi is my go-to place in the neighbourhood when I want to stuff myself silly with the Persian delights available with them especially served as a delectable, generous buffet. It has great location, just as you take the first right turn from Finchley road station, towards Canfield Gardens. Hard to miss, being, in a sense, next door to the massive Waitrose (not its entrance side but the left one). Its buffet that I speak of with such overwhelming love is something available seven days a week, during lunch hours. Mahdi’s interiors are beautiful – warm and mesmerising – lovely stained glass work, even better tile work, traditional warm-toned cushions and on the walls, haunting prints of Persian-styled paintings, right out of Rubaiyat as if!!! The buffet is an unlimited spread with different items every time. I have eaten off their a la carte menu as well – some of those items naturally feature in the buffet from time to time. These usually include some sort of barbecued meats mainly CHELOV KEBABS with lamb and/or chicken; HOMOUS; MAST-O-KHYAR (like a raita with cucumbers); KHORESH GORMEH SUBZI (which is a lamb and bean stew with an amazing kick from the whole preserved limes); to be eaten with either fresh NAN bread or ZERESKH POLO which is the typical Iranian pilaf dish garnished with the tart zereskh berries etc. For the superior grade of food available at Mahdi, I think it is remarkably competitively priced as well. To do full justice to the buffet, I need to always ensure that I have literally fasted before turning up here and that I have kept the afternoon free so that I can curl up and catch a nice afternoon nap after the heavenly meal one is always ensured one will have at Mahdi."

The good was extremely bland, it was literally dry meat, rice and salad. The waitress was not that attentive, we had to ask her for the same thing a few times and there was no smile on her face. She did not even greet us.

Food service was excellent. Waiters were very attentive, the food was very fast and s tasty. The fact that they had all the veggie options in one part of the menu was so helpful to facilitate the navigation of the menu. The restaurant is decorated as if it were a Vietnamese garden, very cute

Our first time at this restaurant, first time Persian food. Very impressed. Good range of original dishes that were really tasty. Service was first class and friendly. Nice surroundings. Meal was around £50 with SC. 2 courses and 3 glasses of wine. Only disappointment was there was no fresh coffee. We will be definitely be going back.

After I tried all the other restaurants in the neighbourhood, I must admit that this is my favorite from everything. only a week in london, and I've found my whole time hanging up the place! eating here is succultivated and the meat is of good quality. the chicken is marinated to perfection and is served with a side bread that perfectly complements it. Give him a shot!

Too bad this little beauty is so underestimated! eating is amazing! the hommous is fresh, the lamb is juicy and the rice is fragrant. the service is polite and the atmosphere is quiet in contrast to the rush of many centrally located restaurants in london. the carrot juice is highly recommended and the Persian tee and the sweetness are perfect for one after eating relax. Overall, I had to rate it 5.0, as I was rated 4.0 in many restaurants that are not close here. love mahdi’s! View menu

The food was good but the service could definitely be improved. The waitress was nice, but she was confused about their own menu and she did not understand what we wanted to order nothing out of the ordinary, but she did not understood the English names of the dishes). In the end she said she understood but when the food came we realised she was clueless: I ordered a medium size tea, got a large one I had no idea what is the difference between a medium and large, but I understood that I got a large when we got the bill), I ordered chicken breast and got a full baby chicken. The food was nice, but I did not actual ate what I wanted. There is a 10% service charge added to the bill although is...

A delightful restaurant which I’d been looking forward to trying since it opened, so I popped in for lunch. It’s very nice inside, light and spacious, uplifting. All the staff are lovely, they’re friendly, professional and look proud to be there. I had the Summer veg rolls which were delicious; crunchy and very fresh, you could really taste the herbs. Served with a peanut dip, they added an extra dimension to my meal, and I was quite happy they came with the main dish rather than as a starter, actually. I enjoyed a Vietnamese curry with veg, tofu and vermicelli noodles, again, delicious. The sauce was flavoursome and everything was so appetising and enjoyable. I also had a side salad which t...
