"update: on my second visit we went early to enjoy our breakfast when it is quiet. the food was delicious and the staff was friendly. my original 5-star rating lasts. a nice caffe with a decent selection of delicious snacks and dine. they have the usual breakfast dishes that would be expected and some unique shakes like cocos milk and honey. They also have vegetarian and vegan friendly options. the personal was friendly and efficient and the inner has a beautiful, easy to reach atmosphere. it was pretty busy on a Sunday morning that really loud in the inside, but I guess most are used to it. a great place to have a snack and meet with friends and family."

A lovely cafe with friendly staff and a good selection of both meat and vegan breakfast options. They do good coffee and shakes. Great decor too.

This is a very pleasant place. Quiet and cosy ambiance, tasty seed and cheese scones and a nice cuppa coffee along with a friendly atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely cafe with a great atmosphere and the staff were so friendly. Great gluten free options and honestly the best gluten free brownie I’ve ever tasted. Would recommend!

Had a really nice breakfast here today. I had a full Scottish breakfast which was pretty good and my wife had eggs benedict which was also good. Nice coffee. Nice atmosphere. Reasonably priced and pleasant staff.

Everything from the food and drinks to the ambiance and welcoming staff was top notch. The avocado and poached eggs dish was wonderfully fresh and the breakfast plate was very tasty. Great value for money too! We shall be back!

we fell back from the birchwood for a brunch. all the dishes we had ordered were very good. the classic French toast and mixed mushrooms on sourdough toast was both delicious. but the cook had clearly surpassed with the banana french toast. a medley of arome and textures that was the perfect Sunday consumption! service was warm, fast and friendly. a wonderful experience!

the birchwood is a beautiful cozy restaurant at the top of the marchmont road (at the street level) and serves excellent breakfast. even if they are not in haggis (there is a vegetarian option) or black pudding (out of stornoway outsourced, and considered the best) the breakfast options are excellent. also first class coffee. sit is suitable and flexible for different sizes of (small) groups, the decoration follows largely the former toast (at the same place) with local quality work. the employees are attentive, helpful and accommodating.

"new kapitel has caught my attention after I was on top ten on trip advisor only months after the opening in the oktober last year. that and the fact that it is open for my early january birthday, made it the perfect place to celebrate to become a little older. I was with the man and his family. the man is quite used to my taste and good to the kind of kitchen that would appeal to me for a special occasion; his family not so much and I was filled with shame as his mother scornful went through the menu trying to find something she would enjoy. I've eaten with the family of the man, and I know they enjoy eating, so I think it's a failure of the menu that it is not accessible. the benming always blooming and garnish can appeal to some, but for others it is overcomplicated and it is necessary to find a balance between the two. we start with the starters and I go for venison sour wort pithvier. the venison was underheated and incredibly dry, to the happiness the sourded a little moisturizing and so saved the whole dish, but the aromen were quite not clear, except the garnitur of plastered mushrooms I thoroughly enjoyed. for the largest part we chose a fish dish for our main,- sea trout, smoked muddles, petersilien and coast herbs. where the starter fell, the main recording is getting back. the dish is rich and creamy, and each element adds the complexity of the taste as a whole, without disturbing. the concept is now an old one, and it would be deceptive if it had not worked, as it would essentially pay with this place. I enjoyed my meal in new chapter, although I do not agree with it is stellar status under the hierarchy of edinburgh eateries. it is top ten position is just a flash in the pan of hot popularity, and in time it will be plated in the upper half of the middle stage where it belongs. and that is where it belongs, the dishes can be plated with a michelin star in understood, and the venue and the supporting media has the clean lines and empty slate look of fine but eat the team has a long gone to go if that is their real aim. at the end, although it was a beautiful meal, and cheap (at the moment I would not be surprised to see their prices slowly rise) and the man’s mother found something they enjoyed and that is the most important."
