"Apparently The Black Swan has a Michelin Rising Star and is a AA rosette restaurant in so our hopes were high for a great evening meal. Sadly we were hugely disappointed as we paid through the nose for some very pretty but completely flavour free food.We started with the free range Free-range Chicken Terrine with Pea Mousse, English Quails Egg, Peas and Crispy Bacon and the Pan-fried Mackerel with Mackerel Fritters and Warm Pickled Vegetables. Both dishes were extremely well presented but, and it is a BIG but, they had little or no flavour. The Chicken was utterly devoid of any flavour at all, in fact, the only item on the plate that tasted of anything was the crispy bacon. The fish dish was little better, it was amazingly flavourless, the best item on the plate was the warm pickled vegetables. So onto mains… I had the Line-caught Wild Sea Trout with Crab Crushed Potatoes, Samphire and Sauce Vierge and my guest ordered the Slow-cooked Belly of Old Spot Pork with Roast Apples, Fondant Potatoes, Bacon and Thatcher’s Cider Foam. Once again the presentation was faultless but the portions were very small. The trout was overcooked and served on a bed of completely tasteless Samphire, the potatoes were over salty and the Sauce Vierge was again utterly flavourless. And this pattern sadly repeated itself for the pork, which was extremely greasy and once again was devoid of any taste at all.I have no idea how this establishment had managed to impress the assessors at both Michelin and the AA; this will remain a mystery to me. Maybe the chef was away when we visited? Who knows? But on the strength of our experience here, I’d recommend giving The Black Swan a wide berth."

at the moment there are 169 michelin in Britain, of which 66 in london. if my dissatisfied hunger had his wise, we would visit each week and about four years later, give or take some new supplements, we would eventually rush them all out of the list and most likely be bankrupt. let's be honest, we're not out of money, so even a month is a bit wounded, so what do we think to pack three in three days!?

a hidden gem near kilburn and byland abbey found by accident, if we do not have a table near ampleforth, the black swan offers locally produced bark, pork and lamb cooked to perfection and a selection of pudddings to the most selective diner. the general ambiente is relaxed and friendly, the furniture are mainly oak, some of them made by the famous mousey thompson workshop in kilburn, stone flag floors in the bar completely very comfortable environment. the last time I went, it was in a group of seven for a birthday party, the total cost including pre-dinner drinks, wein and liars was a little over the head: fantastic worth for such a good evening.

name: johnemail: recently stumbled over the most beautiful pub while on a walk near the white horse. the black wan an oldstead is located in a beautiful remote location, about a mile from byland abbey. we were greeted by a burning fire and friendly host and I was pleased to see a selection of Cask-Ales including black sheep and copper dragons. enjoy a well-earned drink on the mouseman' bar, which we take on the specials board, not only their average pub duck. so impressed by our new sound we decided to return a week later to dinner. eating was just stunning! we've been back five times and never found a debt. the family who own the pub and the personal are friendly and efficient. this is not...

the black swan was the only restaurant in the northern englands to enter the michelin star club in 2012. on a rainy Saturday afternoon shortly before Christmas we found out why. we were in yorkshire over the celebrations and this place was on our radar for a past, so it was the perfect opportunity to see what the whole thing is. it is probably a bit understatement for me to say that it was “rainness” because by what resembled a stream we were going to get there, but to come there we did. have no fear, but our aquatic experience was square the debt of google navigation! When we finally arrived, we were warmly welcomed and showed up until the bar, where we decided on lunch tasting. six courses...
