Slow service and average food. No option for whole meal bread or baguettes only white. Very forgettable place. Outside seating would be nice if there weren’t so many smokers!

A wonderful location and unpretentious pub to bring friends and guests from Pompey, the USA to Aotearoa New Zealand. Take in beautiful Babbacombe Downs from the bar or terrace. Great pub grub, wines and ales delivered by the friendly crew. Doggy friendly.

I came in here last week with my wife. I hadn't been here in years and fancied a pint, so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed at all. We were even happier when we found out they sold our favorite lager, Korev. The staff was friendly as well. What more could you ask for? We will definitely be visiting again soon. View menu

This was a lovely spot to have some lunch. The service was excellent and the food was very good value. We sat outside and had wonderful views of Babbacombe. We both had baguettes which came with salad, slaw and tortilla chips. The gentleman serving us was very efficient and friendly. Definitely recommend for a lovely lunch in a lovely spot.

As a local always a pleasure. Situated on beautiful Babbacombe Downs with glorious views from the wonderful flower decked terrace and the high tables in the bar. An excellent beef baguette complemented by perfect roasties. Shipmates friendly. Doggy friendly. Reasonable prices, wines and a couple of real ales. Brought our Kiwi family guests this month. Went to The Buccaneer for Christmas Day lunch, wasn’t sure what to expect as always had Christmas dinner at home. We had a lovely afternoon with family and friends. The atmosphere was really welcoming , all the staff were friendly, nothing was too much trouble. When the 3 course meal was served it was delicious. Plenty of meat, veg , gravy and all piping hot. Even in the dark days of 2021 the Buccaneer was a reliable staple for dinner when we were in Torquay and despite its recent change of ownership, menu and decor, I'm glad to say that hasn't changed. Friendly bar staff and manager/owner? fast, efficient service from the guys in the kitchen and good portions for a fair price. Can't fault this place give it a look, you won't regret it!

We had another fantastic meal at this pub last night, with a great selection of wines and real ales. We started with delicious tapas followed by pie, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and a flavorful mixed bean chili. The pub is dog-friendly and the staff is very friendly. We live nearby but decided to book a room for the night for a change of scenery. The room was spacious and clean, with a fantastic enclosed balcony overlooking Lyme Bay. My girlfriend and I ordered our food just 20 minutes before the restaurant was closing. A displeased female bartender informed us that we would have to have our starter with our main course, as the kitchen was closing soon. Despite her lack of enthusiasm, we received our combined starter of salt and pepper chicken wings, which were delicious. Our mains of pie, chips, and peas were also tasty, but it was a strange combination to eat together. The food was great, but the service was cold and unfriendly. This may be why the pub was so empty on a Saturday evening compared to other pubs we visited that night. View menu
