"When our meals arrived, they were cold and practically inedible. We paid and decided to call it a night. The next morning, despite our concerns, we went for breakfast since we had pre-booked. Unfortunately, the breakfast experience was just as disappointing. There were no eggs, and the rest of the food was cold, dried out, and unappetizing. This was definitely our last visit to Carclaze during our week-long stay. However, we discovered a fantastic bakery just 250 yards across the road that served delicious food and provided outstanding hospitality. I highly recommend future visitors to the area to check it out!"

As a regular at Premier Inn, I can say the Carclaze restaurant can be variable, with occasional staff shortages impacting service and often food choices not available. Price per person: £30–40 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

We visited this restaurant for dinner with three others after spending the day at the Eden Project. None of us are particularly adventurous eaters, but we were all pleased with our choices. The food was perfectly cooked, and the portions were very generous. The service was excellent as well. We returned for breakfast the next day and had no complaints. We would definitely come back if we are in the area again. View menu

The food was merely warm, and the pub itself was freezing due to a lack of heating. To top it all off, I couldn’t add any salt to my meal because it was damp from the cold. I genuinely think I would have been warmer eating outside. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with everything about this place. It appears that they cater primarily to holidaymakers. This is my second visit, and there have been no improvements. Save your money—you're much better off dining at Wetherspoons than here.

We made a reservation for a family gathering of 12, but when we arrived, we discovered that we were not all seated together; one table was located around a corner behind a wall. This was disappointing for a family meal, and the waitstaff didn’t seem to care. It wasn't until two family members decided to leave that the manager finally came over, but by then it was too late. I also echo other reviews mentioning that the restaurant appears to be in disrepair and it was quite cold inside. We will not be returning. Service rating: 1.

"Booked to come on Friday night with some friends. Atmosphere inside the restaurant was good (though the music was quite loud so difficult to hear people on the other side of the table The food we had was really tasty and I love the choice of food you get in the Boathouse. Living locally, it’s always a top choice to go for dinner when in Charlestown. However, my party and I were quite shocked by the attitude of one of the waitstaff. Throughout the entirety of the night, she appeared grumpy, fed up and completely like she didn’t want to be there. There was no friendly greeting or conversation at our table at any point during the night, just a “yeah?” when she came to take our order. No niceties at all. I understand it’s the height of summer but we were made to feel like such an inconvenience, and when we were paying over £200 for dinner, it’s nice to feel valued. She also missed off one of my friend’s dishes, despite counting the orders when she took our order, so one of our party had to sit and wait (fair play to the kitchen who got the dish out speedier than we were expecting! and we were understanding, but we didn’t even receive an apology from her for the mistake (another waitress who didn’t take the order was lovely but again, it wasn’t her fault bless her. I should also mention that at one point, this staff member was walking down the stairs to the kitchen, loudly swearing. Something along the lines of “I couldn’t F*king believe it” It was certainly loud enough for our entire party to hear and didn’t particularly fit with the atmosphere of the restaurant. Overall, I love my visits to the Boathouse but I do not feel keen to return with this particular staff member there. It didn’t feel welcoming and we almost dreaded having our order taken! We are normally keen tippers as lots of our party work in hospitality and understand the stresses of the job, but didn’t feel we could tip after this meal it just wasn’t a pleasant experience. Which is a shame, as without this service I would have said it was a 4/5* venue."
