"We visited for a midweek lunch, arrived around 12 and already three tables were already taken on the side of the restaurant where we chose to sit. Before being seated the young waitress on duty told us to order drinks at the bar. We waited and waited but no one came and the waitress never called out to find out where the bar staff member had disappeared to. Eventually I went and sat at a table whilst my husband hung around at the bar waiting to be served, a young man appeared a few minutes later. There was plenty of food choices on the menu also a specials board too.We were served warm bread butter whilst waiting for our meals to arrive, the bread was very nice, sun dried tomato. For starters I had soup whilst my hubby had pate which was so light and tasty I wish that I had ordered it, not that there were any problems with my soup. Both of our main courses were with potatoes but also a portion of chips came out too, we think this may have come as standard but knowing that we had enough on our plates already we told the waitress we didn't need these. Our meals were very tasty and plentiful, no room for desserts.Waitress was polite but seemed to be a little rushed off her feet seeing as she was the only one serving the restaurant. We would return if in the area."

I phoned late last night having read Tripadvisor’s reviews. We were offered 1215 or 1515. We got there at about 1430, visited it’s small but very interesting Farm Shop called Betty’s.

I had never heard of this place but driven past signs to Burton Le Coggles hundreds of times! The Cholmeley Arms had excellent food, presented well and lovely and hot! The staff were friendly and helpful, and the chef does a great job! Well worth a visit and it is reasonably priced too!!!

After watching the Cholmeley Arms on the TV show Four in a Bed, we decided to visit for Sunday lunch today and we were not disappointed! The pub has a lovely atmosphere and the food was amazing. As someone who is gluten free, I was happy to find a wide selection of delicious food to choose from. We would like to thank everyone for a wonderful visit and we will definitely be returning!

The food at this restaurant was excellent. The field mushroom with ham and rarebit was one of the best starters I have ever had. The service was a bit lackluster, with waitresses seeming uninterested and not providing proper utensils for the starters or answering questions about the food. However, despite this, the food was well worth returning for and we may have just caught the staff on a bad day. I would eat there again.

Ate firstly in the evening and then booked for breakfast albeit e were staying down the road in a self catering. Brilliant pint Off the Peg don 't miss it. We had creamy mushrooms with blue cheese and a black pudding with bacon and salad as starters followed by slow roast rib of beef and a venison steak all very well cooked and delicious but far too many veg and chips! Recommend the eggs Benedict for breakfast but the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon was also first class. Very friendly staff, comfortable surroundings what 's not to like?

Just got back from an overnight stay with my daughter. It was just perfect for the relaxation and chill out we were looking for. The rooms are beautiful and the bed so comfortable, my daughter described it as like sleeping on a marshmallow. We had a beautiful meal the evening we arrived, the ribeye steak was cooked to perfection and the portions so generous. Breakfast this morning was simply delicious, hard as we tried we just couldn’t finish the enormous plateful. John, Lesley and their staff make you so welcome. We have decided this is going to be our annual treat.

The food at The Cholmley Arms was absolutely wonderful. We had Sunday lunch and were impressed with the quality of the ingredients. We ordered different meats - chicken, lamb, and beef, as well as the vegetarian option of linguine. Each meat dish was tender and delicious, the roast potatoes crispy and tasty, and the vegetables perfectly cooked. The linguine was also a hit, with my friend even taking leftovers home because it was so good. The desserts were equally delicious, with generous portions that looked as good as they tasted. We can't wait to return on a week day to try the alternative menu. The staff was attentive, professional, and friendly, making our experience even better. The bil...

"The Stag Inn is a delightful looking pub overlooking the small green in the village of Barkston near Grantham. Internally the pub is clean and tidy with a range of two and four seater tables with New England shades of light blue on the painted table legs in the restaurant area. We didn’t venture into the pub side so can’t vouch for the decor in there. We arrived unannounced just after opening time of 12 and were offered a table with no difficulty. There was a menu of the usual offerings of fish and chips and a range of burgers together with roast salmon, chargrilled pork chop, a leek and cauliflower cheese pot pie, ham egg and chips and a vegetable lasagne amongst others. A specials chalkboard hung on the far wall and the crab and prawn salad with Mediterranean bread sounded so good we both opted for it. That was a mistake as we were to find out. The meals were reasonably quick to arrive and were served up in two large bowls with a dusting of paprika round the edges. What hit me immediately was the large flaccid green lettuce leaf draped over the edge of the bowl, together with a whole half-a-lemon that we each had. A small wedge would be perfect. The bread tasted sweet and was as far from the Mediterranean as it could possibly be apart from the occasional input of sundried tomato. What irked me most though was that the bread was delivered up pre-buttered with what looked like some bright yellow catering spread. A small ramakin of real butter between the two of us would work so much better. When asked if everything was okay I mentioned this and was told that chef would be informed. Having said all that the crab and prawn salad was full of flavour and sat on a nice mixed salad of red peppers, lettuce, red onion and cornichons. A word of advice to the wise….. don’t sit at the table near the restaurant counter as this is where the pub’s phone is located. On at least two occasions the phone was left to ring unanswered by the staff, presumably as they were busy elsewhere (the pub was by no means full) and was right behind my head! The volume of the ringer was high and it would have been a more pleasant experience for us if, firstly, it was answered and, secondly, the volume was turned down. On the plus side the staff were polite and helpful but the food not so great."
