"After passing this place many times we decided to stop on the spur of the moment. The Crown is very understated outside no signs or billboards. We opened the door and wow! it was a perfect scene of a thriving country pub. There were lots of groups on the comfy sofas and chairs. As it was past 8pm and we hadn 't booked we asked if we could eat. Lovely response yes, of course would you like a drink while we prepare your table? A little later we were shown into the restaurant and had an delicious, interesting meal including both having a mackerel starter and I had venison to follow. All served with a smile. We will definitely return"

A lovely friendly pub with great food. We have eaten here twice now, and each time, the food has been fabulous. This time I had the vension, and hubby had a ribeye. Both were very tasty and plentiful. We will definitely be back.

the staff was extraordinary and eating delicious. not sure how long the tapas (3 for £15) is on, but the calamari and the chorizo are one must try. both owners were very nice and gave great recommendations when they were asked. 100% will be back.

beautiful meal in a busy pub. menu was wide, although something different from the website. a little pricier than many rural pubs. service was very good. I was impressed that there were 4 real ales on (ghost ship, london pride, black sheep and titanic plum porter.)

We've been eating here for a few years. Sunday dinner was excellent. roast beef perfectly boiled, do not outweigh how many places do. truthahn not dry, but damp. yorkshire puddings huge. general variety of vegetables. serve extremely generously. personal all attentive and friendly.

In village to catch up with my auntie Joan and we popped to the crown for a bite to eat. What a treat. Is there a better example of the classic English country pub ..? Roaring fire, lovely staff, proper local clientele, excellent food and drink and cutest pub dog too... Nice to meet and chat to new owner landlady Lucy aswell. We'll definitely be back soon....

"So disappointingBefore coming to the swan I had looked at the menu online, as my youngest child has allergies and is dairy free. It states on the menu that ‘light bites’ are GF and most can be adapted to be DF, brilliant! It was our last day of our holiday and I thought I’d treat them to a nice lunch out before heading home. Where do I start, the service attitude from the lady behind the bar was shocking. I asked what could be made DF for my son and was told that there wasn’t anything and they don’t cater for allergies?! I pointed out on the menu that they state they can and was met with an eye roll basically. Anyway, I thought I would get him some chips, nope, they fry them in the same oil as the dairy and meat products we are vegetarian ! I then asked about the VEGAN dishes they had and I was told they are also cooked and prepared for alongside the meat products so they can’t guarantee they will actually be vegan!! By this point my daughters had already got excited about eating out and the play area that I couldn’t really back track, so I went against my better judgement and ordered 3 sandwiches on granary bread and a childrens fish chips. My son had a packet of crisps. The sandwiches arrived and were absolutely awful, the cheese and onion one was 2 slices of cheap shop bought bread with some pre grated cheese and a couple of slices of onion not even any butter! It wasn’t cheap, £45 for 4 soft drinks, 3 sandwiches and a child meal. Then there’s the play area, sharp screws poking up through the wood chip, lose sharp fixings on top of the slide, and a massive electric open cable under the swings! We swiftly left, it was such a bad end to our holiday and should have been our final hurrah before driving home. Was appalled at their attitude towards me, was treated like an inconvenience, food was awful, please don’t eat there if you are Vegan, although the dish is vegan ? they certainly don’t take the steps necessary to keep it away from meat, and definitely not safe for anyone with an allergy. Such a shame as the location is so pretty with the river opposite, we were excited and left feeling really disappointed. Will not be back."
