"A big Thank you to Jane and Richard for all their efforts at keeping us well fed with a lovely takeaway service to look forward to in these difficult times Friday nights fish and chips followed by a strawberry tart were just what we needed...! The standard was as always excellent served with a cheery smile and all hygiene and social distancing regulations in place Very well worth a visit can’t wait for you to be back open again as normal ...although it has been lovely having a takeaway"

phone calls, email and another call at this point I was told I would call back. hours later got an email with general information that asked me to call. the effort cannot be worth, instead chose a welcoming pub View menu

Our first meal out with friends for many months due to Covid. Every aspect of the meal was excellent and for a few hours forgot what was happening in the real world. We look forward to another treat at The Crown at the end of...November. Fingers crossed we are still allowed!

A rare treat in these strange times and more than lived up to the previous high standards. Biosecurity good, lay out and hygenie have been thought through and are fine. Food a delight, eat anything described as smoked as it will be brilliant. Staff attentive...without being intrusive. View menu

This hidden gem has the lot: wonderful food, great ambience, and friendly and efficient service. We have never had anything but superb meals at The Crown. Due to Covid we've missed sitting indoors by the roaring fires but the rain-safe, brazier-heated, fairy-lit pergola is a...marvelous place to enjoy the same beautiful, careful food. Really well kept ales too. One of my favourites, for sure.

We managed a visit in the Summer in-between lockdowns and everything as good as before. Latest lockdown precluded eating there for New Year's Eve so we sampled our first restaurant take away' from anywhere. It turned out to be just as good as eating-in and...the heating up etc was really no problem. Collecting it was an equally good experience, so civil in the circumstances! Our Dutch son-in-law rates this place in both countries, and he is a food snob, so even more praise.

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."
