"Was in jolly Newcastle Upon Tyne for a couple of days to see the sights and listen to the lovely Geordie accent *sigh* Being only a few hours away on the train from Edinburgh it actually makes the perfect long weekend or day trip. We arrived early afternoon and couldn 't check in until 3pm so we decided to pop in somewhere not too far away from our lodgings for a bite to eat. First place we wandered into looked, from the outside, like a lovely, homely family pub but upon entering and viewing the menu we soon discovered this most certainly was not the case...turned out to be a very swish and expensive gastropub full of lots of suits on their 'long business lunches '. Ooft. Upon noticing the fish chips was gonna call for a small bank loan to be taken out we made our excuses and left crimson faced (but it was okay coz they 'didn 't charge us for 'water ' we never asked for! Gee, thanks! *grumble* So off we trotted...only a few hundred or so yards down the street we came across another bar being a bit hesitant this time we were delighted to see a menu for out perusal looked good AND they had a lunchtime offer of a sandwich, chips and a drink for £5.95, woo! In we headed. I hadn 't actually noticed but this was in fact a Greene King pub, living in Glasgow/Scotland means we don 't get such pubs around, mores the pity as coming from East Anglia I am very partial to the odd pint (or 3 of Greene King 's delicious IPA, slurp! As soon as I spotted the GK IPA sign I was tres happy. We both opted for the sandwich deal and I had the hand(as opposed to the not so popular 'foot ' battered fish finger sandwich and the Boy chose the ham hock with chilli piccalilli. Both were delicious but I have to say the Boy won this one his ham hock and chilli piccalilli sandwich was gorgeous! I was more than a tad jealous I must admit. Dang. Still, mine was pretty good and the chips salad were very tasty too. All that washed down with a delicious pint of GK IPA made me one happy camper indeed. (FYI: I don 't DO the camping; I like to be no further than at least 50 feet from a flushing toilet at all times...cue the horrendous festival portaloo flash backs...ARGH! Bar staff here were very friendly and I must admit, it did take me a couple of attempts to completely understand a question he asked me *blush* I came over all Alan Partridge and the 1st time he spoke it was 'just noise '. Oof. Great accent though. Love it. So yep, friendly staff, yummy food and a great pint in a bar that also gives you a cracking view of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, river Tyne and also the Baltic modern art gallery whilst sat in a super comfy sofa great. If ever I am in the NUT again I will for sure pop into this pub again. Why aye man! (sorry ."

Located right next to the law courts on the quayside this bar offers really good food. The bar is smartly decorated with a upmarket yet laid back feel to it. The quality of the food is fantastic and the prices very reasonable.

Meh! Asked for a martini, was told they don't make them anymore. So I asked for 2 shots of Ketel One and an olive (all their cocktails list this vodka as the main ingredient), no olives they said. So I ordered wine and we got an antipasta platter, which came with, you guessed it, olives. The food was ok, but now I know why the bar was almost completely empty. I advise you to look elsewhere in the neighborhood.

Waited 45 mins for our starters and when we asked were our food was the VERY rude bar maid just vanished. Another 20 mins passed and we demanded to know what was going on, the wait was blamed on being very busy. There were only us and 10 other people in the place!!! I`ve never walked out of a restaurant before this one but I`ve never had such a bad experience. I gave it a 1 star because 0 stars is not an option. BE WARNED

We went to the restaurant on a weeknight and arrived late in the evening. There were only a few other patrons inside and we were able to sit on one of the comfortable sofa seats, although it was a bit worn. The prices were a bit on the high side, not very budget-friendly. The drinks were average, but the prices were steep for their quality. One positive aspect was that the restaurant stayed open later than usual closing time.

I thoroughly enjoyed the ambience and interiors of this trendy pub/restaurant. The seating options were nice, with sofas, large seats, and stools to choose from while enjoying the very well-priced and delicious food. I would highly recommend the deli cheese platter as it was both affordable and delicious. The staff were very friendly and willing to help with menu choices. It's a lovely place to relax, enjoy fine food, and have a drink. It's a great spot to visit after walking across the Millennium Bridge.

The Eye of The Tyne is a recently renovated bar and restaurant located on the quayside near the Millennium Bridge. The atmosphere is elegant and inviting, with comfortable leather seating and cozy fireplaces. The front of the restaurant is lined with glass windows, providing ample opportunities for people watching while enjoying a glass of wine. I would highly recommend The Eye of The Tyne for its food as well; they serve all the classic pub favorites but with generously sized portions and top-notch quality.

I'm a big fan of this pub on the quayside! It still believes in reasonably priced drinks and offers your usual hearty pub grub. An affordable night out in cosy surroundings. I tend to come here midweek or on a Friday when it tends to be relatively easy to get a seat and personal space really exists here so you never feel like you're on top of each other! They also have a pool table which is great if you fancy the odd game but within a nice pub rather than going to a pool or snooker hall. This pub is also on the beautiful quayside so an ideal pit stop on a leisurely stroll. Well worth a visit!

Popped in here a couple of Saturdays ago as it's rare and handy for The Baltic. Service was excellent good chat from the barmaid that served our drinks and a profuse apology from the waitress that the kitchen hadn't realised a starter was in fact that and had got all the food ready at once (wasn't a drama for us but good to be advised in a polite manner nonetheless). Said starter was fine (breaded gherkin slices with dip) and my pie and veg was okay (edible but rather a lot of pastry on the pie and the veg looked a tad tired). Pints were well poured and the prices keen so somewhere I'd happily go back too. They may have to let me snooze in one of their comfy sofas next time though.

Went here for 2 Sunday lunches last week, along with 2 glasses of orange juice. The Sunday roast left a lot to be desired. Re-microwaved over cooked roast beef and mash potato that had gone hard and stuck to the plate thanks to the over-microwaving. A poor selection of boiled peas and sweetcorn from a supermarket frozen bag accompanied the dish. Hardly a nice selection of veg. Small glass of orange came to over £2 and the sunday roast was around £8 each. Will not be going back. Go to a proper carvery or at least somewhere where they cook the dinner properly for that kind of money. My girlfriend and I both rate the food standard disgraceful . Maybe they had an off-day, but for the money you '...
