"Firstly, please don 't confuse this pub/restaurant with The Fox and Hounds in Willingham by Stow. Tripadvisor calls that pub The Fox and Hounds, Lincoln but it is it is a totally different pub. Very confusing. The pub I am reviewing here is in North Hykeham, and is actually nearer to Lincoln than the one in Willingham by Stow so the Tripadvisor description of the other pub as The Fox and Hounds, Lincoln is very misleading and inaccurate.OK... so in relation to the Fox and Hounds in NORTH HYKEHAM, LINCOLN. The first point is don 't be put off by appearances. When you first walk into the pub it feels more like a local boozer where people just go to drink and watch football on the telly. But appearances can be very deceptive. The food here is absolutely fantastic. This is real home cooked, high quality food at ridiculously low prices. The chef is obviously keen to go beyond the usual mundane pub grub and has come up with a fantastic menu with some really innovative items that you just wouldn 't expect on a standard pub menu.Being a vegetarian, I absolutely love this place. There is a multitude of choices on their vegetarian 'specials ' board and it 's not just the typical boring baked potatoes and omelettes that you get in most pubs. The chef has really made an effort to come up with some fantastic veggie alternatives, which are genuinely home cooked not just the usual microwave rubbish that most pubs serve.Frighteningly, on a recent visit the landlady told me they were actually thinking of changing the menu and introducing a carvery .... Aaaaghhhh!!!!... please don 't do that,.. you already have a superb menu and serve some wonderful high quality food. Why change?!?! What this pub needs is not a new menu, but better marketing. Whenever I visit, it always seems to be nearly empty, despite being on a very busy main road with hordes of commuters driving past. When the word finally gets out about this hidden gem, people will be queuing outside to get in !!As I said at the start, don 't be put off by appearances the food is superb."

Most times we go there the food is outstanding and excellent value for money. We have had the occasional bad meal but these have be far outweighed by the ongoing excellent value and experience

Having been a number of times, in an attempt to support local business, it must be said the food and service is inconsistent. Both can be very good when the landlady is around to supervise, when she is not both suffer.

Just been for our evening meal. Warm welcome and excellent service. I had Chicken Diane with Mushrooms sauce, this was so good, real homemade chips, chicken so tender, just perfect. Tony had Gammo , egg and chips, with garden peas, he said it was excellent, perfect. I had vanilla ice cream and toffee sauce, all the deserts looked great but I just asked if I could have ice cream, I really enjoyed it. This was our first visit today, going again Friday and Saturday we enjoyed it so much. The best chips ever, food cooked to perfection.

Me and my partner visited here last Tuesday, we both decided to have the sirloin steak, I had mine cooked medium and my partner had hers cooked well done, the steaks were cooked to perfection and melted in our mouths! It was served with the best homemade chips I've every tasted, fresh salad and coleslaw(which again I'm guessing was homemade). The place was busy but we didn't wait long for our food at all, and the service was excellent. We finished off by both having the lemon cheesecake, which was very tasty and again was homemade! Excellent we will be back!

Tried the Sunday lunch today in the hopes of finding somewhere nice for Christmas Day lunch this year. Sad to report that they definitely cater for the cooked to death customer. Big plate of well overcooked, soggy veg. Lamb very well done (not in a good way), huge yorkshire pud that looked lovely but was tasteless, and reheated roast potatoes. We had starters but seriously wished we hadn 't. My minestrone soup was like fatty red dishwater, no sign of any veg or pasta in it. I left the whole bowl after a taste but no question from the waitress about it. My husband 's pate was ok but obviously shop bought. So disappointed.

A great little pub restaurant, I come here most Friday's with my wife while the kids are at karate. It's often busy but the service is great and where always finished in time to get the kids. Here you get proper chips (not frozen ones) and the food is always great, iv never had a bad meal from here. If I was to recommend a dish Id say either the fish (whale) and chips or the braised beef in a giant Yorkshire pud (get a extra gravy boat) are two of my favourite meals also the stakes are good too. I can't coment on the desert as I'm always too full to have one . The price is very reasonable, the bill for me and the wife often only comes to around £20 for our 2 meals and two drinks. The staff a...

My husband and I have just enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch and cannot believe previous reviews. It was served promptly by a very friendly young waitress and the presentation was eye opening. Three thick slices of beef, which could be cut through like butter, a giant homemade Yorkshire pudding, sat atop a plateful of vegetables. Roast and new potatoes, carrots, peas, cabbage and cauliflower. Gravy which was really tasty and the waitress obliged by bringing another gravy boat. Excellent value for £5.95 or £7.95 if you wanted either starter or sweet. Previous review stated food was overcooked. Mine today was cooked to perfection and certainly not soggy. Have been for evening meals before and neve...

"From the outside, it looks like another tacky eatery in a street lined with tacky takeaways. Walk through the door and pleasantly surprised. A little deli counter, a back room then a garden. The garden overlooks a derelict abandoned overgrown garden. Not a problem, I am used to this in Athens. What is the problem, and I don’t see in Athens, tenants throwing rubbish out of their windows into the garden. It is ideal breeding ground for rats. The local environmental health should investigate, and if needed carry out enforcement action. To sit outside or not? Maybe too cool when the sun went in, and too hot if it came out as no shade. I decided to sit inside, near the back door. A red rose on the table is a neat touch. I was the only diner. Oh but we were busier earlier. Strange how I am always told, if you’d have been here when you weren’t here, we were busy. The menu was singurly uninspiring. Why panini’s? Everywhere does paninis. I have never understood why. Or pasta. The choice penne (which I don’t like), or spaghetti (which I dislike slightly less) I chose spaghetti Bolognese. It arrived seemingly quick. I was asked when I placed my order, did I wish for Parmesan cheese? It was added in the kitchen. Usually brought to and added at the table. Spaghetti Bolognese is not an Italian dish. It was an artificial dish with elements of North and South. The spaghetti mediocre at best, the Bolognese sauce excellent. I was going to leave but decided to stay. I chose tiriamasiu for dessert. Coffee, Illy, no thanks. For coffee walk to Madame Waffle or Coffee Aroma. I visited a couple of weeks ago, the previous week I found closed."
