"I'm sorry to say that the food was quite disappointing. It seems like there may be temporary management in charge right now. The chips were frozen, the meat was bad, and the vegetables were extremely tough. This is definitely not a suitable place to celebrate a 50th birthday. The manager was friendly, but unfortunately, the food is a major letdown."

"On Holiday in Wedmore so decided to eat out at Table Eight. First impressions were great. Nice decor and everything looked clean and tidy. We were served promptly and the starters came in good time. We were asked if everything was okay and we started to tuck in. 15 seconds into the starters we were again asked if everything was okay, which we confirmed it was. I lost track of the amount of times we were asked if everything was okay throughout the entire meal. It’s very nice to check, but it became so frequent that it just constantly interrupted the meal having to pause our conversation and meal to say “very nice, thank you” every couple of minutes. After a while you start to think “why shouldn’t everything be okay?, are we missing something?”. The food itself was great and we really enjoyed it. We asked for the bill, confirmed everything was okay a few more times and paid using cash. The bill was reasonable (it’s bring your own wine so this obviously has an impact on the bill). We sat waiting for our change for quite some time and confirmed a few more times that the food was lovely while we waited… and waited. We always leave a tip, however the change we were waiting on was about a tenner and unfortunately were not in a position to be that flash. After waiting quite some time we had to awkwardly ask for our change. Eventually after the message being passed through just about everyone in the restaurant, we were presented with our change in coins in the palm of the waiters hand. Soooo awkward!!! Anyway, to summarise : Great food band a nice place. “Is everything okay” once per course would suffice and give customers their change back and let them decide if they want to leave a tip."

"We visited for lunch on New Year 's Day to celebrate a family birthday. We were welcomed warmly and the atmosphere was very convivial. From that point on things slid downhill. The portions looked mean and the food was not cooked well. For starters, my brother and I ordered the monkfish scampi which consisted of four diddy pieces of chewy monkfish (not all the membrane had been removed) in a hard batter. They tasted as if they 'd been sitting an hour under warming lamps. The others ordered baked camembert the like of which I 've never seen before. For £10, they were served half a small cheese standing upright which was sizzling on top and cold inside. It appeared to have been grilled under a salamander rather than baked in the oven. I ordered my main course from the specials, a 'chargrilled ribeye of pork '. I wasn 't sure what I got. It looked like a 1 inch thick slice of rolled pork. It was dry and lacked any chargrilled flavour. The roast potatoes were at least a day old and were leathery and difficult to cut and eat. Christmas leftovers? I hope not. I wish the circumstances had allowed me to take photos. Not once did our waiters ask if we were enjoying our food. Neither did they enquire when they cleared. My family isn 't used to complaining about food or service and as I was a guest, I felt obliged to hold my tongue. Had I been paying for my meal, I would have had no hesitation in commenting on the starter or sending my pork back. This place is expensive and has a pretty good reputation locally hence our disappointment. The website talks of the high quality, locally sourced ingredients; I 've no reason to doubt the provenance and quality but have to ask, 'What happened in the kitchen? ' I work in the business and know well how tight margins can be. I hate to write reviews like this knowing that they can effect someone 's livlihood but the kitchen and the hotel 's patrons deserve better than what we were served. Maybe the restaurant was just having a bad day. If so, it can 't afford too many more."
