"if they are in the arundel area, they want an authentic Gastro-Pub with good food, great service and cultivated natives, this is the place. this is a real pub with culture and inherit. not something that can be felt by the last of the marketing of people or branding junkies. eating is very nice made ny a person who obviously knows how to cook. it is not a fusion madness and trendy, simply good and intelligent food. the employees here are people who know more about the restaurant trade and are not the untrained students who would get a chain. the decor fits into the beautiful tiny village that is burpham. if you want to see the best in a real village in English, this is the place to go. only with the car in the restaurant along the small road to the village will give them a good feeling and the restaurant lives there. as someone who comes into the opposite or not, I like to come here and it remains what I always liked. while eating is quite high, like people, but the prices remain good for what it is. one of my favorite places in the opposite."

We had a great lunch here whilst on a lengthy ramble in this wonderful area. The food is top-notch, as is the beer, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. We didn't want to leave but the hills were calling.

I made a reservation ahead of time and decided to go with the traditional Sunday roast. The sirloin slices were thick and delicious! The service was very courteous, which is probably why the restaurant was packed. One tip for improvement would be to make the horseradish sauce stronger, as I could barely taste it.

"We stopped in for Sunday lunch on our way to our holiday destination. Despite being in a remote location, the restaurant was bustling with customers, a testament to its popularity. We ordered the roast turkey, which was delicious and served promptly. The cauliflower cheese was also a standout dish. Unfortunately, we were too full to try any desserts."

Good food off a limited menu. Booking essential. Plenty of walkers passing through and sitting on the outside tables with a beer and a bowl of chips. Food was original and delicious. Drinks took longer than expected due to the walking fraternity numbers at the bar. Top tip get there early queue at the bar for your drink then go to your reserved table with first drink in hand. Strange reviews this pub is very busy and very popular, especially with walkers. The village is the kind of place overseas visitors imagine an English village to be, and it is a bit Disney, however it can be forgiven as the pub is fine. Best to park and walk along to river, across the railway to North Stoke, which has an ancient, cold church and air of medieval lonliness about it.

We came after being told about it. Free parking, excellent. Just go past yhe front of the pub, about 100 yards. Nice decor, simple, elegant, tasteful. Beef dish excellent, maybe a bit too big. I had to take some home. Fries are like roast spuds, generally very good. Coleslaw was great. Lemon posset, very nice to finish. It it was my pub a few tweaks to the menu, a few lunch type dishes. Service was very good. Toilets clean and tidy, if very tight to get into the cubicle!

We had a delightful dining experience at a charming countryside pub! The menu was delicious and offered something for everyone, in a beautiful setting. The young staff were attentive and pleasant. Unfortunately, the atmosphere was disrupted by two loud and opinionated locals who monopolized the staff's time, insisting on their expertise in how battered fish should be cooked and comparing it to a local fish and chip shop. It's a shame they don't appreciate the local resources and the resilience of the business in difficult times. Despite that, I highly recommend visiting this lovely traditional pub. We will certainly be returning in the summer! View menu

Burpham is out of the way. The George needs to be a destination. It emphatically is for all who appreciate an ambitious country pub menu with new ownership/management in place. For a weekday lunch Chef Martin gave the dishes the extra attention that makes the difference. Kentucky fried pheasant with polenta chips was meltingly tender, the pheasant having been soaked for one night in brine, the next in buttermilk. The chips were light, perfectly formed and fried. Sole [on the bone] with ratte potatoes and monks beard was notable for the freshness and size of the locally caught fish. Posset with marshmallow for pudding was delicate and delicious. A lunch such as this would best be earned with...

We were recomended by our son, We were down for the new year .We were greeted by a delightful young lady named Gracie .she was a most attentive waitress, perfect service . The choice on the menu was excellent ,food presentation and quality was superb.Despite me hardly ever having a desert I couldnt resist my favourite Tarte tatin.YUM!!!!!!!. A varied selection of wine to choose from .Reasonably priced. Decor very tasteful,Sort of shabby chic .Despite getting lost we most certainly will return.Cant wait to try the sunday lunch. We live in Essex but have a house at Middleton,so cant wait for our next visit .There is only one thing that wasnt great that was the lack of lighting and the pot holes...

"Went with my partner who’d been here a good few years before and had fond memories of it. It’s changed! I was told on the phone it was advisable to book, I have no idea why as it was practically empty. We were pretty much ignored when we got there by an older woman behind the bar but hoped it would get better. The elderly woman on another table went off to find her own pepper so I should’ve known then. We ordered drinks and one pint of flat coke later we asked to send it back, I was told it was indeed real Coke by the sullen looking waitress wearing cycling shorts. She then admitted it wasn’t real Coke and did he want a bottle of that. We were waiting so long for our food that dirty glasses were accumulating on the table and at one point we put them up on the window sill. Then noticed a dirty big stain on the table cloth and a candle holder with old wax in but no candle left there on the table. We asked how much longer the food was going to be as we both had work in the morning and it turned upafter 60 minutes and I wish we’d have left 20 minutes earlier when we’d thought of doing so. When it came it was a shock to see the £27 sirloin steak. Over priced and average at best. We had to ask the waitress ‘can you please take all these dirty glasses while we eat?’ The meal was already ruined and our evening out spoiled not by the food but by the shoddy way we were treated from start to finish. Even the lemon had to be sent back! No juice, fell away from the skin into mush so god knows how long that’d been there. Apparently she needed to tell the chef but brought back more of the same. We had to quibble the bill afterwards as the pint of flat cola syrup sent back was still on there. The manageress or whatever her job title is should be embarrassed at how customers are treated but unfortunately it was obvious she didn’t care and no apology given and she treated us exactly the same. If o was on my own I wouldn’t have paid so they’re lucky we did. It was one thing after another. We came home feeling like we’d been taken advantage of and I wish I’d said more at the time. I don’t usually leave bad reviews, I chalk it up to experience and move on so you can imagine how bad it was. If you like fawlty towers you may enjoy this farce but we’ll put this down to one place we’ll never go back to and will NEVER recommend. Joke of a place. What a shame."
