"Don’t bother, much nicer places around. Miserable owners/staff from the moment we walked in. Arrived after completing a charity event, 6pm us walked in at 12 noon and I asked if there was a table available however appreciating we hadn’t pre-booked. The guy (landlord maybe) just bluntly said, yeah any table without a reservation on it and left us to it. No hello, welcome, let me check the tables with you etc, nothing, I knew at that point we should have left and gone elsewhere. Managed to find a large table outside, I needed to take 2 chairs from a small (unreserved) table inside to accommodate the 6 of us. The small old lady with shirt blonde hair gave a look of disgust although wasn’t willing to help or offer alternatives. Food ordered and came to the table served by the same lady, crikey a smile was out of the question! We all agreed the food was popping hot and good portions but so so bland, tasteless pie, boiled tasteless veg, and bland chicken, none of us would waste time travelling here again ever! I mean £14 for a pie main meal is cheap but even still I wouldn’t bother. Beware of the hundreds of wasps outside around the sitting area!"

Queueing outside door to get served at bar. Awful service. Coffee comes in cardboard cup, with uht milk cartons and it's not cheap.

Excellent pub in an outstanding location. The Thwaites beer was perfectly kept and the food was very good pub grub. The staff deseve a special mention as they were exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Called for lunch at this canal-side pub popular with walkers and doing a great trade on a rainy Monday. Friendly efficient service, good well prepared (if a little basic) food, and clearly signposted gluten free options on the menu. Nice well kept ales.

A lovely pub, in a nice location. Ideal for walking off your Sunday lunch. Yet again, on our third visit to this pub, the food was excellent. One of us had chicken, and the other a nut roast. Lovely. Staff are friendly and helpful and you can take your dog too. Highly recommended. View menu

Very poor and slow service, the place is dirty and below expected standards for early lunch time. Waiting time for the meal was disappointing but the food to a good standard. Staff interaction poor. It really has deteriorated since my last visit 4years ago and I would not hurry to return.

Food is lovely but it’s the staff that ruin it especially the old lady waitressing her attitude is awful! Food starts at 5.30 so we ordered on the dot but still had to wait an hour and when asking how long food was going to be she replied ‘you’ve only been waiting 35 minutes’ we only ordered a sandwich and chips!!!

Celebrated our sons birthday. Four dinners OK, my Ceasar Sallad a joke. No bacon, no bread croutons, no romaine lettuce, no sliced grilled chicken. No reaction when I complained. If you ever consider to order a Ceasar Sallad at the Hollybush Inn, I suggest you do something better with your money, e.g. through them in the nearby canal. View menu

Absolutely brilliant pub , lovely canal side position with a great vista of fields and trees , superb collection of beers , real ales , Erdinger on tap ! , bottles of a decent red wine £18 , very dog friendly , great for kids with a fantastic play area with loads of seating for adults around the back , go to the front and sit by the canal , watch the boats and chat to the friendly locals , staff very friendly and service is quick , the cleanest pub we’ve seen , always cleaning the place , mowing the lawns and jet washing the floors and tables , straight into our top 10 pubs in the country and if you read my other reviews you can see we go to and review plenty , a credit to the owners

Great ale and had read great reviews of the food. Sadly food was abysmal. Steak and Ale pie stew in a dish with a small square of pastry on top whilst the broccoli cauliflower bake was a collation of soggy over cooked veg, slimy flavourless cheese that was separating, padded with boiled potatoes and not an oven baked crusty cheesy top in sight totally unpalatable and certainly not worth the same price as the stew. BTW the stew was served with nicely cooked broccoli cauli!! Though our starters of supposedly garlic mushrooms arrived reasonably promptly, the mains took a further 30 minute wait. (Mushrooms in a creamy sauce but no garlic). Two tables who arrived after us were served starters and...
