"Won’t be back in a hurry… we waited 45 minutes for our first drinks order even though other larger tables around us ordered after and received theirs long before ours. The appetisers and starters were dumped on our table without explanation of which sauces went with what and the closh from one starter was left on the plate with no room to discard. The side dish (simple steamed broccoli) was delayed on a considerably overcooked fish main (turbot) and was delivered 20 mins later, only after the dish was almost finished. To add to this, when we enquired about a fish fork for the ‘on the bone’ turbot, the waiter did not know what one was… after asking around it appears as though ‘the Ivy’ don’t even have them. Some of the food was delicious (especially the venison tartare and the Keralan duck curry) so it wasn’t without merit, but the terrible service means we’ll be going elsewhere unless things change. Unfortunately, looking at other tables around us the same feeling may be commonplace…"

Good experience. Steak was chewy but a replacement was offered immediately which was good. View menu

Perfect for what we were looking for—a delicious lunch in a lovely setting that was reasonably priced.

Second visit and disappointed by the experience. Food not great with scallops and steak over cooked. Service mediocre.

As a resident of Plymouth, I recently visited The Ivy for the first time, and it was a wonderful experience. Everything was flawless—both the food and drinks were exceptional. The service complemented the beautiful ambiance of the restaurant perfectly. I absolutely loved it! View menu

to the time of booking, sitting at our table, beautiful angular position but table very small. the waitress was very loud, took a drink and forgot the table water. had to ask twice. the starters quickly came out, but had nibble on the table that we had to move, as it was not cleared. the mains came out quickly, and again the precursors were not removed. the food was ok. filet bark was very nice and perfectly cooked the chicken in brothcrumbs was very disappointing until my partner did not at least stay the half left. no talk about why with employees and boards without question clarified. nicer place to eat average service bad! will not go back. pity. birthday party

Six of us traveled from Britain to visit Exeter and decided to book a table at The Ivy for what we hoped would be a delightful meal. From the moment we arrived, we regretted our choice. There was no warm welcome at the reception; we were simply told to wait. Once seated, we had to ask for menus ourselves. The starters were underwhelming, and we were cold sitting by the window, despite the waiter claiming he had turned on the heating. To our surprise, eggs were served alongside our fish cakes, which was unexpected. We waited a long time for our drinks, and by the end of the meal, when we settled the £450 bill, the manager inquired if everything was satisfactory. We shared our feedback about o...

"Owner rude and arrogant! And you can’t trust them and they won’t make your order right by just saying too busy to make it right! I called in to make a booking but told no tables available but I could place an order for takeaway so I ordered two gluten free pizzas. I also asked what size are the gluten free pizza crust and was told 11”. I was told I would need to wait 1 hour 30 minutes and I agreed. I ordered the Gluten free 11 “ crust as advised for one Olive Tree and one Garlicky . When I arrived, I asked the person with the pizzas to confirm the gluten free pizzas. She looked a bit worried and said they were not gluten free. I asked the other girl if I would have to wait another 1.5 hrs and she said they would expedite my pizzas. The owner came over and said he had two vegan pizzas for 8:30 pm and I said that is not what I ordered. He said he was too busy to remake the pizzas. He said the girl that took the order said she didn’t remember gluten free was ordered. As a Celiac , those are the first words out of my mouth when I order any food and I also inquired the size of the gluten free crust and frequently they are pre-made and sealed and I was told they are 11”. He would not remake the pizzas as he said he has to trust his staff. So he implies the customer are lying and uses it as an excuse to not make it right. It doesn’t excuse not remaking the pizzas correctly as ordered gluten free as I was told a few minutes earlier. I assured him I ordered both pizzas gluten free and my wife came in and also confirmed as she heard me place the order on the phone. I realize this pizza must be well done and popular but not to remake the pizzas and imply me a liar and refusing to remake them is unprofessional. I find his behavior arrogant, rude and unprofessional and just because he went to Italy to learn how to make pizza doesn’t make him a good owner and manager. Hopefully, he won’t blow off this review but learn from it. Always make it right for your customers! And never insult your customers! It also suggest he doesn’t care about his customers because he is too busy. He walks away and just repeats he has to trust his employees. Poor excuse for not making the pizzas as ordered! Employees can make mistakes and as a Coeliac I will also double check as I did when I came to pick up the pizzas. I would advise Coeliacs to not try these pizzas as you can’t trust them to make them to your order. Peace be with you! Dietary restrictions You cannot trust this place to make your gluten free as ordered and they won’t remake it if they made it wrong and just say I have to trust my staff. Very Poor attitude from an owner and a bit arrogant! Customers don’t appear to be important and must be lying if they get an order wrong."
