"On our recent visit to Portesham we used the pub 3 times. Visit one: the roast was delicious, would definitely recommend it if you are visiting on a Sunday. The rhubarb crumble was nice but felt it was a little on the small side, however after the roast it was enough but might not be if you have a smaller dinner Visit two: A lunchtime visit, I had the burger which appeared to be homemade, it had a good flavour came with chips so a decent meal for the afternoon. I had a scoop raspberry a scoop of lemon sorbet for pudding, both were fruity refreshing Visit three: This was a little disappointing, we had all picked the steak for dinner to be told it wasn't available, we weren't told on arrival so we were all a bit gutted to be told this on ordering, as the menu was limited we all pretty much had what we ate on the lunch visit earlier in the week. All in all though a decent dog friendly pub which has a good selection of drinks a huge garden for those sunny afternoons/evenings"

Very good food and choice of beer. New decking since previous visit making outdoor seating even better than before. Large garden and dog friendly. Another pub that must be popular with locals.

Only had a pint was going to eat but nothing took our fancy. My husband wasn't impressed when barman served a local before him, a good barman should know who's next to be served especially when the pub was quiet. Nice pub lots of outdoor seating, dog friendly. Service: 4 Location: 4

Rubbish, nothing left on menu, everything we tried to order was unavailable. When we finally did order monkfish curry it was bland and I think the monkfish had yet to be caught because it certainly wasn't on my plate. The service was dire and the waitress had no customer service skills. Will definitely no be going back avoid at all costs. Overpriced and definitely under seasoned Service: 1

A lovely venue in a quiet village. We came twice whilst we stayed in Potersham farm camping (caravans and motorhomes as well) The first night we think the chef was off as the burger was cooked far too long. The rest of the meal was great, they replaced our burgers with a whole new meal but although better not great. However the following evening we had steak and that was delicious so all good in the end. Well worth a visit. Service: 4

We visited this excellent pub when near Abbotsbury, and it had a great upscale casual vibe with indoor and outdoor seating, and tasty food. The kitchen for dinner opens at 6, but opportunity for drinks beforehand. The mains include two vegetarian options, and the halloumi burger was great. Service was good even with being extremely busy. The toilets were slightly confusingly named Gulls and Buoys for Girls and Boys, but guessed correctly. (Thank goodness hadn't had too much to drink! Parking is on the neighborhood streets. There weren't tons of spots, but we had no issues.

Have to agree with lady who posted an hour ago . Beautiful setting and I really don’t mind paying the price if the food delivered is worth it but sadly it wasn’t . Burger was so well good it was dry and chewy burger bun dry fish over cooked • No table service tonight but 3 staff visible and the pub was pretty empty . Really looking forward to eating here as such a good location next to the campsite . Cant seem to post again but felt I needed too ! Just had the Sunday roast !! Fantastic !! Probably the best I’ve had eating out !! I did tell the staff this evening . Thankyou

a great pub experience! on the camping site below on the street and we were randomly walking in the happy hour, which seemed to go all night! beautiful locals inside and welcome bar staff also. had a beautiful Sunday roast, which was beautifully presented, only remembered to take a photo after I looked in! had a great selection of ales and beer, had also weep when that is her ding. drinks were very affordable in comparison to many pubs I had, so don't leave them other reviews from them! will definitely be back in the opposite special mention of the chap in white boot shoes behind the bar and very smiling ginger waitress

"This spot is a lovely spot for lunch and it was fully booked on the day we arrived. Drinks arrived promptly and the service was fairly brisk, very friendly This is also a dog friendly pub with several tables bringing their well behaved mutt along. Whilst service was friendly there was no later 'follow up ' to check if everything was ok once the food had arrived and we got stuck in. Really disappointed to find that the tempura cod starter had run out. The lamb and mint coquettes were a little bizarre they tasted of duck not lamb so we did wonder if there had been a swap with the lamb running out and the duck leg being substituted? The sirloin roast beef (in the Sunday Lunch was very well cooked, pink, soft and very succulent. Excellent. The Yorkshire puddings were enormously risen, very dark brown to the point of being overdone but sadly virtually tasteless. The roast potatoes seem to have the taste and consistency of being reheated which was another disappointment. Top marks for the cooking of the carrots which were sweet, tender and full of flavour; the same for the french beans and sugar snap peas excellent care of these quick cooking veg. The rib eye steak whilst cooked beautifully cooked was pretty tough and unyielding and I kept looking longingly at the roast sirloin. I can only guess the cow that supplied the rib eye was stressed out and full of adrenaline at slaughter? A nice portion of tasty broccoli cheese but disappointingly cooked (reheated? chips. The 'hand pulled ' ? ale was cloudy and defo needs some TLC all in all pleasant lunch but nothing to write home about. Thank you to the chef for giving so much care to cooking the veg and the roast sirloin (but not for the pre prepared chips, roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings"
