"This charming old-fashioned pub hotel is a must-visit for fans of traditional accommodations. I have had the pleasure of staying at this hotel twice and would have returned more often if I could only get a reservation. The rooms are varied, but I can only speak to the two styles I have experienced. The gatehouse rooms, located separate from the main building by an archway leading to the car park, were lovely and beautifully furnished. My second stay was in a comfortable room on the first floor of the main building. A colleague stayed in a room on the floor above, which could be described as a loft. I always test a hotel's quality with fish and chips from the restaurant, and they did not disappoint here. My photos will give you a sense of the experience, so I'll let them speak for themselves."

Staff good food bland. Items on menu not available even though we were told it was a new menu. Not convinced that bread was from Hobbs House as on menu. Flavourless cheese. Pickle tasted of nothing. Offer on menu did not exist. Fish over cooked. Very small portion. Chips ok. Service: 4 Location: 3 View menu

Very nice, well maintained, great rooms, bed, mattress, tea cafe and cookies. Beer garden (under the window) and car park. And the staff really tries to make everyone feel comfortable. Top breakfast offers. Guineas 6.6 .... too expensive.... at some point you'd rather stay at home Nearby activities: Lacock Abbey... worth seeing Rooms: 5 Service: 5

The restaurant was very pleasant, with a slightly gastro feel... but definitely top-notch. The food was of a very high standard, with the veggie burger being world-class and the rillet being great. The cocktails were fantastic, earning 4 stars. The atmosphere and service were both rated 5 stars, while the location was given a 4-star rating. Overall, the hotel was highlighted for its luxury, romantic ambiance, and great value.

I checked in on Thursday 5th October stayed until the 7th. The manager immediately upgraded my elderly parents to a room on the ground floor to save my mother walking up any stairs as she has mobility issues. This was greatly appreciated, I can tell you! The rooms were absolutely spot on, as was the evening meal breakfast. Nothing was too much for the staff I would recommend it to anyone thinking of staying in Melksham Rooms: 5 View menu

I had a great experience at this restaurant located in the quaint town of Melksham. I stayed for a few nights in a B&B and my room, number 10, was on the top floor of the building which made it very hot in the late summer heat. Despite this, the room had a comfortable bed, TV, good wifi, and a nice bathroom with both a bath and shower. The breakfast options were fantastic with several choices to choose from. The staff were also very friendly and accommodating. I would give this place a 5 out of 5 for rooms, service, and location.

Excellent Sunday lunch at the King's Arms. Very good service from the waiting staff and attention from the guy in charge with a lovely shirt! Good to have vegan options on the menu which aren't just the meat taken off a roast lunch. Very hot food which is a pleasant surprise after so many places seem to serve luke warm food. Excellent choice of both mains and sweets. Only one slight quibble and that was the size of the vegan wellington serving which could have been a tad more generous very tasty though. Good place for a celebration meal or a treat. Thank you.

"We've often eaten here and had excellent food and service. Until this week. We booked for lunch and our waitress organised drinks very promptly before taking our order. I asked for scampi with a salad, avoiding chips and we also asked for garlic bread to share. When our food arrived, I had scampi and chips with a bowl of salad and no sign of the garlic bread. The waitress suddenly realised I hadn't ordered chips but I said that was OK as my husband would eat them. Despite reminding her about the garlic bread, it never arrived. Our waitress was quiet and efficient, and busy with new arrivals as the restaurant began to fill. We eventually decided it was pointless asking about the garlic bread and finished the meal with tiramisu. The bill duly arrived and in the absence of garlic bread, she offered to take off the service charge. We decided, as the majority of the meal had been fine, to ask for only half of it to be deducted. I think my main problem was with the manager. Although he was there, he didn't deal with any of this problem. He seemed to be fine with going around the tables and chatting to regular customers, but in the matter of the missing garlic bread and the chips I had not ordered, he left the waitress to deal with the problem and didn't even look at us when we left. In many places we have eaten, the manager will normally speak to customers and not leave his staff to face an unhappy diner. Popular eateries don't only rely on their food, their service is just as important, and unfortunately it felt as if no one really cared. Sadly we've eaten our last meal there and won't be coming back."

"This is a lovely venue in the beautiful countryside of Wiltshire. We were warmly greeted by the staff, as we came in, and the great service carried on throughout the evening. We were seated at a slightly odd table in a corner, perfectly adequate, I just felt a bit in the way. Menus were handed out, although I'd looked online and set my heart on delights already, and we had a couple of drinks to get started. We went for a sharing arrangement for our starters and had the crispy pickled root veg, the bread and pistachio butter alongside the trout rillettes. The bread and butter were lovely, different combination that worked well. The pickled veg were nice, but some you needed your good teeth for whilst others were very soft. I'm told, as I'm not a fishy person, that the trout rillette was divine. Main course arrived and as usual I went for haddock and chips. I know this contradicts my previous paragraph but everything is better deep fried in batter! The Mr went for the spicy bean burger, which looked fabulous. A couple of niggles would be that the burger was very squishy for a bean burger, it kept trying to escape from the bun. I usually order fish and chips as it's a great way to compare how different chefs manage with batter. The chips were thick, chunky and crispy as anything. The tartare sauce was really good, as were the crushed peas sounds daft but they tasted of peas, not making them like other places where they add god knows what to them! My niggle was that halfway through the fish which was beautifully cooked and moist the batter went a bit stodgy and lost its crispiness. It's a small thing, not really worth mentioning on the night as everything else was top notch. Dessert arrived, as it always seems too... I had the pumpkin spiced set custard which was a delight to look at, as well as eat. The custard was smooth and not over spiced, and it came with filo shards and the lightest meringue I've ever eaten. The Mr had the cheescake which was a concoction of blond chocolate and mascarpone. It also comes with Horlicks ice cream which I tried and can safely say it was yummy. It wasn't a cheap night out, but overall it was worth the money. Next time I'd like to sit by the fire in the little dining room, not in a hallway. Please take yourself there and enjoy."
