"My husband and I stayed at the Oak House Hotel on 19.08.11. The service we received was five star mostly due to the most attentive member of staff called Nathaniel. From the moment we arrived Nathaniel looked after us. He was so polite and professional and made you feel special. We ate in the dining room later that evening. The food was superb and very professionally presented. We felt that the amount we paid was very reasonable both for the overnight stay and the meal. Breakfast choice was £7 for Full English and £5 for Continental. I chose the vegitarian full breakfast and was delighted with the quality. The sausages were full of vegetables including leeksdelicious! Our only complaint was the fierce spring our room door! It was very difficult to open and slammed shut.bit of a risk to the elderly or children. Our thanks to all the staff at the Oak House for making our stay one of the best on our holiday."

Nice gaff!!! The service food was spot on. The girl who I brought there for our first date was impressed. However, I hope I played a part in that.... I'm meeting her again for another date... Therefore, what can't speak, can't lie.

We stayed with friends in Cheddar nearby Axbridge and looked for a Sunday Lunch. We found during a trip to Axbridge the Oakhouse Hotel. It was really great. Very professional and freindly service. The table was covered like a 3star Restaurant. We offered an 3 course lunch. It was absolute delicious. And also a very good price-performance ratio. Total all things top.

Very pleased we found The Pheasant at Wookey it was exactly what we were after. There had been a misunderstanding about the booking but that was no problem and swiftly sorted out. We had a lovely meal in a great pub. The icing on the cake was the landlord bringing out a fudge cake with a candle and singing Happy Birthday as he delivered it. Fantastic place. Highly recommended.

Having booked a table in the restaurant we were disappointed to find out that it was closed for a wedding so we were given a table in the bar. There was limited choice on the menu for two non meat eaters and one of us had cauliflower cheese which was so runny it was like soup. When we mentioned this to the waitress she seemed totally uninterested. The toasted sandwich wasn't really toasted. All in all it was a very disappointing experience.

We were not warned beforehand that a works Christmas “do” was being held in the SAME room. About a hundred people, with a noise level to match.People constantly placing their drinks on our table etc. If it wasn’t for the fact that we had “paid” for our meal beforehand by virtue of a “Gourmet Guide “ Brochure,we would have walked straight out. The manager gave us a complimentary bottle of wine at the end as a peace offering but the whole thing was entirely unacceptable. Our last trip to the Oak House… Richard Smith

"We live just down the road from Axbridge and popped in for dinner as we had heard good things about this place. The first thing that is difficult is parking! There are restrictions everywhere for 24 hours a day as far as we could tell. Of course, that is not the fault of the restaurant but it does contribute to one 's enjoyment of an evening.Anyway, the restaurant and bar area are very nicely decorated, warm and welcoming. we were greeted by a very pleasant young lady and had a drink at the bar first. very chatty and friendly woman behind the bar too.On being seated at the restaurant, we had a tasty amuse bouche and drinks (decent wine list .The menu is good. There were at least three things on there that I could have ordered on the spot! Traditional British style choices, very nice. However, I could not justify paying £30 for an 8oz fillet of beef with some sauce!!I had the pigeon starter, which was very nicely cooked, pink all the way through and tender as well (water bath, maybe? . However, when it arrived at the table it was all quite cold as if it had been sitting for a while before being brought out. My wife had the soup, which was home made and she said it was good.We both went for the pork belly main course, and both agreed that it was rather dry. There was nice crackling and all the potatoes and veg were nicely cooked, but the actual pork meat was not unctuous with reduced fat. All in all, good service, nice place but the kitchen was not on top form that night. We would give them another chance however, this meal was 'average ', not 'poor '."
