"After going for a delightful walk in nearby Bishop Wood, we ventured into Cawood looking for somewhere to have lunch. Whilst the external signage for the Pickled Postie looked like it served food, it wasn't clear if they had a seating area (though looking through...the windows we were able to see it The Pickled Postie is a post office, deli, village shop and cafe all under one roof. The deli counter selling three types of pork pie, sausage rolls and a range of other savouries and cakes. the shop has a few cards, groceries, wine, and everyday items that people of the village may need. The cafe is approximate covers situated towards the rear of the shop. We were greeted warmly by the two ladies as we entered and were brought menus to the table. The menu is small, but with plenty of choice to suit most people and reasonably priced (bacon/sausage sandwiches, breakfast, cold sandwiches, etc. There is also a specials board with items like eggs benedict and the creamy garlic mushrooms (which we both had). The coffee is tasty and served strong. The decor and ambience of the place is lovely. Bright, welcoming, comfortable and very friendly. Loved the duck wallpaper (go see). The garlic mushrooms were absolutely delicious and a perfect sized portion. Served in a dish with two slices of buttered granary toast. We brought home a cream slice and carrot cake as were too full to eat it there both of which were divine! They also do special food evenings most of the tapas nights were fully booked which was great to see! We will most definitely be back I would even make a special trip! The Pickled Postie deserves to be a resounding success and I sincerely hope it is!"
