"I was very disappointed with the changes at this cafe. My previous visit before Covid was amazing, with a wide variety of lunch options and healthy choices. However, post Covid, they only offered soup, pastries, and cake for lunch. There was nothing special about their menu compared to other cafes that offer similar items. The only standout feature was the beautiful building and its connection to the Cathedral. When I asked about the change, I was informed that another company had taken over the contract. It's a shame to see such a decline in quality."

I love coming here to escape the hustle and bustle of City cafes. The food is always great, the soups and scones especially so.

We stopped by this cafe for a coffee break after visiting the cathedral. The cafe is located in a charming building next to the cathedral walls. We had two flat white coffees, which came to £6.40.

Great bread source food we’re used to in a beautiful and bright environment. Not as much choice as usual bread source stores- would like more sandwich options. Also not always able to get seating in busy times View menu

What a brilliant cafe. Accessible for all with a small lift and just lovely modern architecture. The place was spotless, the drinks lovely and the range of cakes and pastries quite out of this world. Company running the refectory are called Bread Source excellent!

First and last visit. We ordered 4 coffees and every one of them was lukewarm, it's not that they were left standing before they were brought to our table because I could see them being made and they we brought directly to us. Also cheese scone was heavy and lacked flavour.

We stopped in for tea and cake after touring the cathedral. The building looks impressive from the outside and is bright and welcoming inside. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the cakes were tasty and the portions were generous. Thank you for a great end to our trip. View menu

2 teas and a packet of two small biscuits was £7.80 On entry we were told that the cafe had a large range of homemade cakes. At 2.15 there were very few cakes on offer, not homemade and very expensive. Gave a donation on entry to the cathedral but regretted spending money in the cafe.

The best coffee, danishes, cakes and sandwiches. We kept coming back for more what we tried and loved coffee, hot chocolate, apple crumble danish, walnut cake, cheese straw, goats cheese sandwich …. The best coffee and a great selection of danishes. I would also highly recommend trying the apple crumble danish what a brilliant invention (well I’ve not seen it before and it was delicious). No hot dishes .. as far as I am aware the theme is predominantly homemade cakes and danishes sweet and savoury. Fantastic wish we had one local to us !!

"Where do I even begin? The service from the woman behind the bar was shocking. When I inquired about dairy-free options for my son, I was told that nothing could be modified and that they don't cater to allergies at all! I pointed out the menu's claim that they could accommodate such needs, but my concerns were met with an eye roll. I then tried to order him some chips, but was told they were fried in the same oil as dairy and meat products, and since we are vegetarian, that wouldn't work. I asked about the vegan dishes, only to learn that they are also prepared alongside meat products, so there's no guarantee they would actually be vegan. At this point, my daughters had already become excited about eating out and the play area, so I reluctantly decided to go along with it and ordered three sandwiches on granary bread and a child's fish and chips. My son had a packet of crisps. When the sandwiches arrived, they were absolutely terrible. The cheese and onion sandwich consisted of two slices of cheap store-bought bread, some pre-grated cheese, and a few onion slices—without even a hint of butter! It certainly wasn’t inexpensive; we paid £45 for four soft drinks, three sandwiches, and a child's meal. As for the play area, it was concerning—there were sharp screws poking through the wood chips, loose sharp fixtures on top of the slide, and a large exposed electric cable under the swings! We decided to leave swiftly; it was such a disappointing way to end our holiday, when it should have been a lovely final meal before heading home. I was appalled by their attitude towards me—I felt like an inconvenience. The food was awful, and I genuinely recommend avoiding this place if you are vegan or have allergies; even if a dish is labeled vegan, they certainly don’t take the necessary precautions to keep it separate from meat products. It’s truly unfortunate, as the location by the river is beautiful, and we were all so excited to be there, but we left feeling very disappointed. We definitely won't be returning."
