"we booked at the Dockray after walking past it on the Aira Force walk. It looked good so we looked online for the menu which was varied. I e-mailed the owner to make a booking and he got back immediately, a good start. We ordered lamb shank, burger, curry and scampi. All mains were good sized portions served quickly but all freshly cooked. The owner was friendly, drinks also served quickly. We couldn't fault anything. The decor was nice, unspoilt country pub."

Good decor and one of the only restaurants around which had availability for dinner. Good decor, very helpful hardworking staff and good meal. Thank you

Popped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Staff were very friendly and served food which was very enjoyable, particularly the cheese plowman. Worth a visit.

here in the middle of 11 miles to foot, lunch, lots of food and service was excellent and really good value for money. just what for the trek back to the website where we were.

Located between the A66 and Ullswater we dropped in for lunch. We picked this as it was just slightly away from Ullswater and wouldn't be overcrowded. Plenty of seating inside and out. Good choice on the menu, food was good service was good.

Stayed here for one night our room was ok but the floors were very creaky so you could here the other guests moving around. Evening meal was nice, breakfast was very disappointing smoked salmon was hard and my partners breakfast was over cooked! Staff were...very friendly and welcoming. There is a nice beer garden and very dog friendly.

Whereas many local pubs have just one vegetarian choice, the Royal at Dockray has five, meaning that even during a 3-night stay locally I was able to make a positive choice every evening. Food was prepared quickly, was tasty and portions were generous. Those who eat meat and/or fish are of course more than adequately catered for as well.

We were in the area las Wednesday, and stumbled on this place by chance. Nice outdoor dining area. We went for lunch. I personally can vouch for the beef and onion gravy sandwich with side salad and a portion of chips. We would not hesitate...to call in again when we are in the area. Good staff and good service to match. Highly recommended.

We had dinner here when staying in a holiday cottage locally recently. We enjoyed all our meals. Mum had the rabbit casserole and enjoyed trying something different, although she found it a bit too salty (and she uses a lot of salt and didn't add any! . Sister in law and my husband both had the lamb shank and loved it. I had fish and chips which was fine. We also shared a couple of desserts. Prices were reasonable inn the current climate.

we were staying locally and booked for dinner last Monday night. All the tables were booked which was a good sign. The food was good, locally sourced and definitely more than pub grub. We had game stew, lamb shank, local sausages, beef burger and falafel...burger. The service was very good with the food coming in good time. Some good local ales as well, we popped in for a drink later in the week and had to try the chocolate cake as it looked so good!
