"We've been supporting the Oak since it started doing food again, and have been regularly for lunch during the week, which has always been fantastic. We tried a takeaway Sunday lunch, which was lovely, so we decided to book again for ourselves and two family members. Unfortunately the food wasn't up to standard on that occasion. However, undaunted, we decided to give the Sunday lunch another try ourselves yesterday. The menu looked even better than before, and the presentation was wonderful, but the food didn't live up to our expectations. With the exception of the lamb shank, which was superb, the rest of the food was definitely substandard. The beef was undercooked, rubbery and chewy, and almost impossible to cut even with the addition of a steak knife. The roast potatoes were tough and soggy, the carrots cold and the peas hard. The cauliflower cheese was ok although a little burnt. We won't be doing Sunday lunch again here but will continue to support the pub during the week."

Love going there for a pint or two. Food when available has been great but the chef left recently and I haven't had food since. My favourite local since I moved to York 20 years ago.

Really lovely and friendly pub. The landlady was really nice and let us order fish and chips from over the road and eat them. Would definitely reccomend. The beer was really nice as well.

Went to a reception after a funeral. Wonderful staff, very friendly and helpful. Took out a ramp to enable family members wheelchair to enter. Drinks were good price and food was lovely. Great atmosphere even on such a sad occasion without disrespecting the situation. Highly recommended for fun and family events.
