"We've been supporting the Oak since it started doing food again, and have been regularly for lunch during the week, which has always been fantastic. We tried a takeaway Sunday lunch, which was lovely, so we decided to book again for ourselves and two family members. Unfortunately the food wasn't up to standard on that occasion. However, undaunted, we decided to give the Sunday lunch another try ourselves yesterday. The menu looked even better than before, and the presentation was wonderful, but the food didn't live up to our expectations. With the exception of the lamb shank, which was superb, the rest of the food was definitely substandard. The beef was undercooked, rubbery and chewy, and almost impossible to cut even with the addition of a steak knife. The roast potatoes were tough and soggy, the carrots cold and the peas hard. The cauliflower cheese was ok although a little burnt. We won't be doing Sunday lunch again here but will continue to support the pub during the week."

Well what can I say, After a visit to York recently I decided to sample the local pub where we stayed. A great night was had by friends and family. Will certainly be returning.

Love going there for a pint or two. Food when available has been great but the chef left recently and I haven't had food since. My favourite local since I moved to York 20 years ago.

Friendly staff, good food, reasonable price and a nice outdoor area . We made our own atmosphere as there were 7 of us but the pub was quite quiet. Have seen it buzzing at other times.

We celebrated my mum's 80th birthday at The Royal Oak 17/7/22. Fantastic. Sharon her team made it a very special day to remember, decorations the most amazing birthday cake. The lunch was fabulous, everything was perfect. A lovely, lovely day thank you so much.

Absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch at Easter from Sharon and her fabulous supper friendly and efficient team! All of our food was delicious! Nice gaps between the courses which was very appreciated and fantastic value for money considering the quality of the food

Went for the Classic British tapas tonight. Absolutely stunning food, we had mini burgers, lasagna, coronation chicken, fish pie and scampi between 3 of us, Couldn’t house which was a favourite as they were all so good. Really good sized portions.Hope you decide to do more and the Spanish tapas too. View menu

Came in for lunch. Great new menu, tasty food at a reasonable price. We had the lasagne and the pasta bake, both lovely and the garlic bread is fantastic. Good range of beers, lagers and wines, although the white wine could do with being a bit colder. Great atmosphere, clean, bright and welcoming. Deserves to do well.

Seven of us had a wonderful Sunday lunch at The Royal Oak. Large portions of the best quality meat (which fell apart in your mouth), superb Yorkshire puddings, all complimented by tasty vegetables, made for a really enjoyable lunch. Best of all, Sharon ensured my wife, who is coeliac, could have exactly the same meal but gluten-free! Highly recommended.
