"The backstory of this pub is quite intriguing, but unfortunately, that's where the positives end. It doesn't live up to expectations as a good pub. According to legend, in the early 19th century, this place was merely a house where a widow awaited her son, who was serving in the navy. He was supposed to return home on Good Friday and had asked his mother to bake some hot cross buns for him. She happily obliged, but he never returned. Still, every year, she prepared a bun in his memory. Upon her passing, all the buns were discovered hanging from the ceiling. When the pub was established, they continued this tradition, and each year a sailor contributes another bun. You can spot the current buns (sorry!) in a net, along with some sailors' hats displayed on a shelf behind the bar, as they leave one every year. Sadly, the pub only serves keg beer and does not offer cask ale. Not my kind of pub."

The cocktails were enjoyable, but they lacked strength. I could hardly taste the alcohol.

The food here is truly exceptional, and the staff and the vibe of the place are equally fantastic—definitely a 10/10 experience! I had the pleasure of performing here with my band, 'The Saloon League,' and I can confidently say that my entire band is eager to play here again, relax, and jam! I highly recommend this spot 100%!

This pub has a unique history unlike any other; it's also known as the Bun House. The reason for this name is that every year during Easter, they add a bun to a basket that is suspended from the ceiling. Have you read more about it? Feel free to share your comments and thoughts on the intriguing mysteries of your local Qype groups.

I visited a few high street restaurants for a roast on Sunday, and as a Portuguese, I thought I could cook it better at home. However, today at the Witwensohn, I experienced an honest and delicious English meal that I truly recommend. Plus, it's a third of the price, so you won't regret it! Don't forget to tip the hardworking staff! View menu
