"I often frequent this establishment, and was present when this harridan visited. I have never heard any complaints about the food, but apparently the barman 's (that 'll be the manager 's) explanation that the food is prepared freshly and to a traditional recipe (cream which has lemon added to it to sour it, with coriander) was not sufficient for this woman. She unfairly whinged about the the landlord 's dog online, but I have never had any problems with him he is certainly not an aggressive Beagle. The pub is indeed dog friendly, and I have found the staff to be most helpful all the time. The woman in question was rude, abrupt and very unpleasant. Her review mentions how she feels she was slighted, but doesn 't mention how she melodramatically stood at the bar and screeched at other customers how upset she was. To be perfectly honest, if there was a way to list dreadful customers on here, she 'd be on it. Stay in Newcastle, you gobby horror."

Good beer menu, good atmosphere, probably the best pub in Northallerton.

Lovely staff. Great atmosphere as always. Distinct lack of Ghost brewery beers on tap or coming soon. Hope this changes soon.

Successfully manage to meet 2 birds with 1 stone in the ground floor, is a grandiose real ale pub with an impressive, constantly changing rosta of excellent beating.

Staff excellent, liked the upstairs function room. Purpose of visit was for the band playing that night, but we took the opportunity to order a round of sandwiches and the service was good.

Vist here regularly as it's the only pub in Northallerton with quality craft beers and good range of Belgian beers which are my favourites. Always friendly welcoming and efficient service. Keep it up Paul (the service level that is)!

Arrived on a Friday lunchtime place was like an empty bar.. Oh yes it was just that. Enquired about food.. Sorry no food today but we have a few nuts knocking about behind the bar .. Only good thing was it was dog friendly if you didn 't mind being completely alone in a mausoleum..

Great bar, sadly no food this visit but happy that we ate a sandwich bought over the road in popular underwear shop. Excellent Tim Taylor Boltmaker. Sad that we got a parking ticket from an over zealous TW after only a few minutes. Amazing how two hours passed in Northallerton. Sad to say, lovely town but parking should be free. It (not the beer) leaves a sour taste. Nice selection of beers in tasteful bar .

Frosty reception. My group of 8 friends were made to feel like an inconvenience to an otherwise empty establishment on a Saturday afternoon. Food was terrible, my steak and ale pie had NO MEAT in it. For some reason they'd discussed potato as meat? I pointed this out and nobody bothered to get back to me. We had to leave hastily as the AA man arrived to repair my flat tyre, this is the only reason we are here as it was close to the tyre shop.

1 HR wait for food, no apology , no updates on our food where it was was it coming, we eventually asked after 40mins to be told it was on its way 20mins later still no food. When food did arrive it came in different stages so we could not all eat together as if we waited food would be cold. The place was basically empty and we still had to wait all this time. We paid and left again no apology. Also every vinegar bottle had lots of dead fly's in we just realised as our daughter was about to pour it on her food. Staff seemed nice but hard to tell with such a bad experience. Great selection of beers and booze tho. Such a shame

"We arrived here for a 2 night stay for a wedding (Fri sat night). PROS: Lynsey the manageress she 100% makes it so fabulous. Lovely, welcoming, looked after us brilliantly. Due to some staff shortages, she was doing what seemed like 10 jobs at once! We ate on one of the nights food was delicious! Great service tasty food. Breakfast was also spot on set us up brilliantly for the day ahead on the Saturday! The Willow room which we stayed in was fab ideal size, lovely cosy too! The whole 2 night stay was extremely reasonably priced the place itself has a great feel about it like a big cosy house! CONS: If you like total darkness, take an eye mask for sleeping as the rooms can get really bright from the early hours. Also, depending on the room, it’s on quite a busy road so can be quite nosy it would be worth having earplugs if you like a quiet surrounding. Due to staffing, the bar doesn’t stay open that late, so be mindful of this, they will however put drinks in your room if you can’t make it back in time for the bar closing. Taxis there are no local taxis, so arranging transport to the wedding we were attending was a nightmare which we didn’t account for! Luckily after 6 different phone calls, we managed to get sorted. The only gripe I had was the confusion over the bill if you decide to charge things to your room, the bills aren’t itemised so it’s difficult to keep track of what has been charged. There was some confusion on checkout over what we should shouldn’t have been charged for, so definitely choose to pay for any extras outright to avoid any confusion or uncertainty before check out. Other than that, it was one of the nicest, most personal stays we’ve had out in a long long time. This was mainly down to the Manageress Lynsey who is fabulous at her job really does make it feel like home makes you feel super welcomed relaxed. Thank you lynsey for really making a stay a one to remember."
