Just had Chicken Madras and a Peshwari naan here as I'd been drinking all day and wasn't super hungry. The curry was delicions and spice level was perfect. The staff were friendly and smiley the whole time which definitely added to the experience too!

Consistency is key in dining out or the takeaway game. These guys (and girls) absolutely deliver every time. I recently had takeout for a party of 7 Was brilliant. During the Euros they made us a bespoke takeout platter for 12 !! It lasted all of 8minutes....not a crumb left! And dining in recently with my partner ...the menu is good and varied, staff friendly and knowledgeable. A true Harborne Institution.

We had an amazing spur of the moment meal at Umami this evening we dropped in on our way home and we were made to feel so welcome we stayed all evening. The food was DELICIOUS we ordered from the summer specials, and the flavours were superb, especially the red mullet. The service was friendly and quick and everything we ate had been made with care and attention. This is really a special place, as tasty as Dishoom but without the price tag. View menu

We had a really lovely meal here last night. We live quite a distance away, so it was great to be back here after a long while, and my husband and I were very happy to see that nothing had changed. The food was exceptional, and the service was brilliant. Hoq and the others made us feel really welcome, and we were really well catered for. We had the Railway curry and it was superb as was our starter,rice and naan. We would thoroughly recommend a visit here.

We had a really marvellous takeaway from Umami last night. In contrast to most other takeaways near by, theyd taken the utmost care with the lamb meat which was well trimmed, not fatty and generously added. The sauces were delicious and the breads arrived in top form, not soggy as is often the case. There were also a good variety of dips to go with the poppadoms which were all delicious. The only thing I would tweak is that although I eat a lot of chilli, their default heat levels were a notch higher than my ideal. Usually takeaways are a touch mild for me, so that was a surprise. It in no way took away from my enjoyment if the best takeaway in a very long time. Thanks guys!

I visited Umami with my partner and daugher in june 2024. The atmosphere was terrible and uncomfortable. The management treatment of staff was appalling, we observed verbal abuse towards waiters, who appeared terrified. Our table was surrounded by 2 waiters for the entire evening, making us feel uncomfortable. The food was was bland, with one dish, the paneer overly sweet, we couldn't eat it. I'm an Indian women and know how indian food should taste like. What they served at Umami was tastless and not quality food.
