"I have stayed at this restaurant many times over the years and I am sure I will continue to do so. It is located on the outskirts of the main hub of the Lakes, so it is easy to access. During the winter months, it is a cozy traditional inn with a fantastic selection of real ales brewed on site. The accommodations are great value for money, clean, and comfortable. There is a good variety of food available and the service is friendly and helpful. The restaurant is dog friendly, as evident in the beer names and pump clips. If you enjoy a traditional pub with great beer, good food, a cozy atmosphere, and no TV or gambling machines, then I highly recommend paying a visit."

Friendly staff, great beers & food, dog friendly. This is a proper pub, just like they should be.

The Watermill is a traditional pub, with different rooms spreading out from a double sided bar in the centre.

A great pub tucked away in the small village of Ings near Kendal. They have a microbrewery on site where they produce just delights as 'colliewoobles'

What a fabulous meal we had at The Watermill this evening. The fish and chips were the tastiest I think I’ve ever had! The atmosphere is always really pleasant, a great place to eat. Highly recommended!! View menu

Good bear but the food is like a brick. How do they get such a high rating is a mystery to me. I could not finish the ale pie and in the night I was vomiting acid. Good place for dogs though, very friendly.

Visited with some friends, whilst up in the Lake District for the weekend. Had a lovely Gammon steak, the best I’ve had for quite a while, plus really nice home cooked chips. The beer was excellent and the service very timely and friendly.

We have been frequenting this pub restaurant for years and have always been satisfied with the food. However, during our recent visit, we were disappointed with the service from the bar staff. They served us short pints and seemed surprised when we asked for a top-up. Considering the current price of a pint, this was unacceptable. Despite this, we will still return when we are in the area, but we were disappointed with our experience on this occasion. View menu

The service at this restaurant was excellent from the moment we arrived. We were promptly informed of the waiting time, although it wasn't very long. We had to switch tables due to a draft, but it was fine. I ordered potato skins with bacon, but they came without bacon. I didn't bother complaining since it was only £1 extra and it didn't affect my overall experience. A special mention to Fraser, our server, who was a lovely lad with a big smile. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant.

A great pub, restaurant, and brewery, we have been coming to this village on holiday for well over 12 years, visiting 2 or 3 times per year, the locals are very friendly and the pub offers a great selection of cask ales and fine food and accommodation, sometimes it’s hard to find a seat but if your prepared to wait a while all is usually resolved, the only downside is the change over in staff some are not as customer friendly as you would like to see. It would be nice to see more specials on the food board as the well known reputable menu rarely changes however we can live with that

"We were sure to book ahead for a table of 4 for 5.15 as it was a late Sunday roast we were fully aware that not everything would be available so it was no surprise when we were told that there was only gammon left for the roast option however there was still fish and chips homemade steak pie or vegetable lasagne. We happily opted for 3 gammon roast dinners and a homemade steak pie with mash (you get the choice of which potato you'd like) The food arrived piping hot with plenty of everything and it was so so tasty you could really tell everything was lovingly made from scratch for the roast the potatoes came both roasted and mashed with cauliflower, broccoli and carrot and swede mash. A generous helping of gammon and a large Yorkshire pudding with gravy that was clearly made with the juices as it was so flavourful. The steak pie was brilliant too homemade with large chunks of steak and a choice of potato and whether you'd like the same veg as that with the roast or with peas. This also came with gravy. For dessert there was a choice of either chocolate fudge cake, caramel apple pie or sticky toffee pudding and you had the choice of either cream, ice cream or custard. 2 of us got it with custard and 2 of us got it with ice cream and it wasn't overbearingly sweet it was perfect with a delicious caramel top! We all thoroughly enjoyed all the food and the drinks and service and will be back again one day if we find ourselves holidaying here again"
