Best sushi we ever had! Completed with warm Sake, in a great Japanse restaurant setting! Definitly coming back our next time in Edinburgh.

Started off with a very nice G&T with a hint of cherry. We had 8 courses to share between two of us and everything they served was excellent. A bit pricy but as as expected as the quality was very good.

Absolutely authentic fresh sushi served from a sushi counter by experienced chefs. First time I have had chowanmushi outside of Tokyo and it was excellent. Tempura prawns, teriyaki beef, karage chicken, seaweed salad all perfect. Staff are delightful and setting is contemporary Japanese. I will definitely be back again and again.

Lovely chawanmushi with truffle and prawns. Good sushi with fresh Scottish fish (salmon was very good). Super rolls, including rolls with tempura prawns through them which were yummy. Reasonably priced for food of this quality. Service was good and the place has a nice ambience (it was nearly but not quite full). Will go again next time in Edinburgh.

The food is outstanding and the servers are very attentive. We’ve never been to a Japanese restaurant and this was a great one to visit for the first time. Everyone enjoyed their choice of meal and if any of us had to wait for something, they were quick to bring a small complimentary item to make up for the delay. My daughter was even given a dessert for free because her choice didn’t come with one and ours did! View menu

We ate for £85 2 adults 1 teenager), no drinks included. We waited for 45 min to get to the main dish and left hungry. We went straight to the supermarket to buy food, because it was by far not enough and we normally do not eat much. Also one of the dishes tuna) didn’t look at all the way it was presented in the menu. The slices of tuna were extremely thin and nothing like the thick pieces that were shown. We do not recommend this place.

I went to Yamato for my partner's birthday lunch yesterday. From the moment we walked in until we left, the food and service were outstanding. We were escorted to our table by a waitress who was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring we had water and taking care of our orders. We tried a couple of specials from the menu, the wagyu tataki and lobster and wagyu roll, both of which were fresh and delicious. We also enjoyed the chunmushi, tuna tataki, assorted tempura, and grilled sushi, all of which were well-presented and tasty. The atmosphere at Yamato was elegant, chic, and clean, complementing the food perfectly. As lovers of Japanese cuisine who have visited many Japanese restaurants...

Upon trying dishes such as oysters, tuna tataki, a mini unadon, karaage, and agedashi tofu, I found them all to be disappointing. The fish and seafood lacked freshness, and there was no option for rice or miso soup to complete the meal (curiously, there is no rice on the menu). The waitress even suggested thinking of the food as Japanese tapas, which I found to be a stretch. Teishoku, or set meals, should be recommended to diners for a more satisfying and cohesive dining experience. The restaurant's fusion of classic and modern dishes, such as fried Brussels sprouts reminiscent of a Japanese Wetherspoons and high-end wagyu donburi next to oysters, is confusing and lacks direction.
