"Had lunch here with parents and was very disappointed. It has really gone down hill. The whole place looks rundown and shabby and dirty. A refurbishment would give it a new lease of life. The ladies toilets were grotty, dirty grouting around sink and dirt on floor and unpleasant smell. The welcome was non existent by the manager or barman behind the bar. Could barely be bothered to speak. I said we had come here for my father in laws 91st birthday and he just didn’t respond. The table was old and worn and sticky and chairs very old and worn out. Could do with updating the furniture. There were cobwebs and dust on the dried out faded hops on the ceiling. The menu was a bit uninspiring but ok. My mum was disappointed by the garlic chicken Kiev. no garlic butter inside just in a jug and the green beans were very hard and inedible. I had the turkey which was ok but a mean portion of vegetable for two people so had to ask for another portion. The meat in the steak and kidney pie was also chewy and tough. My parents had a dessert. The crumble was lovely and hot and came with custard but the crème brûlée cheesecake was a mean portion considering it was £7. I think the desserts were over priced. We gave the waitress a tip as she was very good and cheerful and friendly but when we left we walked right past the manager and he didn’t even say thank you or goodbye. Such a shame as nice location and nice building. We will not be returning."

Had a problem with food no one around to complain to. Steak pie very fatty. Peas tepid and hard needed longer cooking time. Won't go back.

Beautiful village pub with a lovely restaurant, staff are very friendly and attentive, the service is excellent. We had roast dinners and a side of the best cauliflower cheese! Will definitely go back. View menu

The Yew Tree is a quintessential English pub set in a beautiful part of the countryside. We had a table next to the welcoming log fire and the Christmas tree and tasteful decs were delightful. Very friendly waitress and delicious food.

Wouldn’t go again…cash-and-carry food at restaurant prices!! Main course was pleasant (Sussex smokie, sea bass and pork belly). Meat/fish were good but new potatoes were microwaved and bass was overcooked. Dessert was terrible…lemon panacotte was cash-and-carry quality lemon pie. Overpriced for quality, won’t go again

We booked online, a noted on the booking it was to celebrate a 40th birthday. This was noticed and they kindly put some birthday banners up without us asking. Everyone enjoyed the food and the service. It was really nice. The only small niggle was that when we arrived early, we had to wait outside in the cold. We wasnt allowed in, but we soon warmed up by the fire. We will certainly be back. Good food and prices View menu

Good welcome when we walked in, table service good. I enjoyed my food, but I couldn't eat all of it. I feel the pricing is too high and potions too big! I would rather have less food and pay less. Why not look to do some dishes for a tenner! £14.50 for burgers, sausages mash peas fish chips! £22 for a steak!! Crazy prices. Don't get me wrong, the food seems home cooked and enjoyable. Just expensive for a quick pub meal.

Lunched here with friends in order to try it out, not having been before. The staff were welcoming. We ate in the bar area, since we'd said we'd be bringing a dog. Roast lamb, fish and chips, seabass as main courses. Everyone was very happy. I've read some of the reviews and feel that people are a bit overdemanding about what to expect from a small pub in the middle of nowhere (though a very nice nowhere! . I shall definitely be back.

"The last time I visited this restaurant was 6 years ago, it WAS a real hidden gem. When I walked in this evening nothing had changed and I was hoping the food would be just as good as I remembered. Service was slow which surprised us as it was a Sunday night and pretty empty. We were given some olives while we ordered (the nicest part of the meal unfortunately). My boyfriend ordered the garlic focaccia with caramelised onion; the bits that had cheese and onion on were very tasty but this was only about 30% of the focaccia, the rest of the bread was over cooked and bland. I ordered bruschetta which was completely underwhelming. 4 small pre sliced bits of stale bread, some chopped up soft tomato and pesto with rocket in the centre. I could have made this at home. For mains I ordered what I always used to have, linguine alla marinara. The portion of pasta was decent, however I only counted 6 pieces of seafood and one large prawn on the top. The menu states it also comes with tomato’s which there were none of. The flavour tasted like buttery pasta with a hint of garlic, again completely underwhelming. My boyfriend ordered spaghetti meatballs. A large portion but completely inedible as it was absolutely disgusting. The sauce tasted like pure tomato purée, so lumpy and stodgy and the meatballs were like nothing we had ever tasted, VILE. We decided to bring the rest of the portion home for my mum (a head chef) to try. We wanted to know what she thought the flavour was as we were confused as to how you can make a meatball taste so vulgar! She spat it out immediately saying it tasted like it had either been cooked in or made with rancid/old fat. The cherry on the top for us was when we asked for the bill. We were given the generic boiled sweets that come with it. 2 of the boiled sweets were in wrappers however there was a third that stuck them all together that was half chewed, out of it’s wrapper. The place was COVERED in cobwebs, decor completely outdated with many flashing lights, menu pages stuck together and stank, looked like they had many a drink spilt over them and not once changed. Don’t even get me started on the toilets! We cleaned our own cutlery it was so filthy and swapped side plates with an empty table next to us as ours had food still on them. Left feeling completely disappointed and are both now suffering with major trumps. Will not be returning again!"
