"We were looking forward to a pleasant dinner in a historic restaurant, but the food was mediocre and the staff were unfriendly, unwelcoming and possibly xenophobic. We had booked a table online and received a confirmation message on the restaurant's website, although the promised follow-up...email did not arrive. The restaurant claimed to have no knowledge of our booking and tried to make a big issue out of the fact that we had not received the promised email, implying that it was our fault. (The restaurant wasn't full and they had loads of empty tables We very nearly walked out at that point, but unfortunately we chose to stay. Not recommended."

We ate well here. It was not haute cuisine but it was authentic German fare and good quality. The service was very pleasant, too.

These are toilets. The food was very good and the staff very friendly and accommodating. Recommendation is the dish baked with lumps and egg! View menu

Able to get a table outside here on a busy Saturday night. Pleasant efficient service. Not a great variety of dishes and nothing particularly inspiring. Decent food, but I would not make an effort to return. Strangely all the beer on tap was Bavarian, not...local.

The restaurant is located next to the Goethe’s Wohnhaus on the Frauenplan. The history of the Gasthaus goes back more than years, and Goethe himself was a frequent guest here. The food is traditional and regional Thuringia food, and we had a good lunch...with excellent beer.

They arrived here on 20.06 and were taken from a friendly service to a table outside. I had a carving with roast potatoes that really tasted good. For Dessert there was a small cake plate that could be requested by the service. All in all, it was a relaxed and pleasant visit. The staff was very friendly, attentive and helpful, you did not have to wait long for the food and the price-performance ratio was also true. I recommend a visit here. View menu

My family gets here for lunch or dinner every once in a while. It is a bit of a treat and actually on the pricey side. On our last Christmas visit the four of us had goose with typical Thüringen dumplings (Kloesse) and red cabbage;...a typical german cold-meat dish (Suelze), and rabbit ragout. All in all, the food was surely worth the money, the service of staff in fact impeccable. You can’t really go wrong here (do make reservations in advance) since they know what they are doing. However, my family is still struggling to find better value for money in this area. Nonetheless, this place is perfectly recommendable.

A year-old historic guest house and restaurant recommended by Goethe back in his day. As American tourists we loved the traditional look and history of the place. We were able to get our party of seated outside right away only steps from Goethe’s...House on a scenic square. The food was all traditional local German for the Thüringen region and delicious. The menu was in German but not a problem with a cell phone and google translate. We ordered very nice local bratwurst, sauerbraten, and beef Roulade that came with a mild purple cabbage sauerkraut and round light potato dumplings called Klöße. It was a great meal and very pleasant setting.
