"We went here for the first time today and I'm blown away. I really fancied the steak even though--until today--I'd never had a good steak in a pub and I even told them as such. Well the sirloin I had today was cooked well (to medium) and a nice cut of meat too. The onion rings that came with it were probably the best onion rings I've had out; they had a nice sweetness and easy to bite through without taking the entire ring out of the batter. The chips were crispy on the outside, golden, and fluffy on the inside. Perfection. And the crowning glory of my meal was actually the creamy pepper sauce. It was a generous portion that lasted my entire meal, including for the chips and onion rings. The taste and creaminess was spot on. It's by far the best peppercorn sauce I've had at a restaurant and reminded me of my grandmother's peppercorn sauce. In fact the sauce was so spot on if I didn't know she was no longer with us I would have had to check in the back of the kitchen to make sure she didn't make it herself. My wife was worried she'd have food envy of my steak when she ordered the lasagne. However, she was delightfully happy with her choice. And she loved the tolberone cheesecake for desert. Oh and the homemade garlic bread to start was really nice. Way better than garlic bread most places and very clearly homemade. I'd recommend this place to anyone and we will definitely be back. I want to try a burger next time, but I'm worried I'll regret it not having the creamy pepper sauce again. "Unfortunately not a great choice of beers. To eat, we ordered pork souvlaki and lamb chop as main courses 14 each). The pork was supposed to be marinated but came out pretty dry and tasteless. Not a big portion either (2 small-ish skewers). The tzatziki...was watery and hardly tasted of garlic. The salad was mainly limp iceberg lettuce with a watery yogurt dressing on pretty tasteless as well. The chips were good and the pitta was warm. But overall very bland and basic for the prices. The lamb chop was purely fatty and grizzly, there was hardly any proper meat on it. It had a very strong taste and seemed a very cheap cut. Vegetables served with the lamb were OK but again pretty cheap-tasting. Chopped-up, oily aubergine is a bit of an odd choice for a veg side dish, though. Service wasn't brilliant, either, we had to remind them twice to bring the tap water we had asked for with our other drinks. Nobody came and asked if we wanted any sauces (ketchup) or how or meal was, not even at the end when we paid. For those prices, I would have expected a relatively decent meal (not just made up of cheap ingredients) and half-way decent table service. The descriptions of the dishes on the specials board sound great and sophisticated, but unfortunately they don't live up to the hype. I only saw after our visit (on their Facebook page) that they are looking for a new chef. I wish I had known that before. I wouldn't go again, unfortunately. Ah yes, the table surface was sticky, too. No Covid measures in place whatsoever."

"Having enjoyed a very nice meal here recently under the eat out to help out scheme, I had no hesitation in booking again for a special family celebration. What a mistake. The Saturday night dinner menu, only available on arrival, had been further curtailed and offered 2 only types of steak (or a choice of 3 specials) for main meals! Worse still was the fact that the prices had gone up by £5.00 for EXACTLY the same dish. Unfortunately this time the experience was much less impressive, making the price hike even more offensive. My drink arrived in a dirty glass (replaced) and the crispy duck pancakes starter was dry rather than crispy. The steaks were so heavily seasoned I couldn't face finishing mine and only brought it home from the restaurant as I didn't wanted to waste it, especially when I was charged £28 for it. I appreciate this may not seem particularly dear to some but for what we were served it was woefully over priced. I have been served much better steak for much less expense. The accompaniments were poorly cooked:the chips were not all cooked through; the tender stem broccoli was anything but and like the steak, it was choked in salt. The red wine list offered one much more expensive bottle, which was chosen for our celebration on its tasting notes even this was a let down and at double the price of almost every other bottle on the menu, this is NOT good enough. To say that I was disappointed is a huge understatement. When the bill came I felt so embarrassed, having recommended it so warmly to my family for our celebrations. £200 for what had been such a mediocre meal and drinks for 4. Oh how I wish we had gone somewhere else.."
