"Very average maybe even below average by today’s standards. We were sat in the restaurant area and asked if we could move into the “pub area” but sadly the tables were all reserved (I’m sure they could have moved us around). The restaurant area had...no vibe to it, the lighting is bad and didn’t have the atmosphere like in the pub area. The lager on tap was Coors light, which I have never seen at a pub, doesn’t even taste like beer in my opinion, so we went for a Cornish lager which was ok. I had a burger and my partner had tuna steak, all I can say is the meal was very very bland with no taste at all. The waiter came over after we started to check on the meal, we said not great at all, he didn’t really know what to say and walked off and said “enjoy your meal” well we just said we aren’t so…… The tuna steak was a good size, but sadly it was cold in the middle and didn’t have any seasoning on it. This was the same with the triple cooked chips, there was no salt on it at all, the chips were soggy with no crunch to them. Then onto the burger, again so bland and no seasoning, I wouldn’t tell the difference between the burger and the chips (chips again with no salt). We finished the meal and the waiter came over, he asked again how was the meal, we said it’s not good. He then offered to take the tip off the bill which is quite embarrassing for us, they shouldn’t have to take the tip off the bill as the service wasn’t bad, it’s the food that was bad. I booked the table online and it asked for any special requests, it was my partners birthday so I said if they could sing happy birthday that would great, but they didn’t do anything. We finished our food as quickly as possible and moved into the bar area for a drink, this was nice and had a great vibe to it. Over all we were VERY disappointed, we would have spoke to the manager but we thought it wouldn’t get anywhere. We thought we would write a review, so the restaurant can take this as some constructive criticism. We certainly won’t come back if nothing changes, which is a shame as it’s a nice pub."

"After we had to sit for more than 20 minutes, we had to go inside to ask someone to come and take our drink and food order (which is not new to the sterling, they know that it will be busy on a sunny Thursday/ Friday, why do they always seem underoccupied? . I would go so far that the staff has beaten people. drink lasted old would have been faster to go into the packed bar! I had the salmon-nicoise salad, which was nice, but for £15.50 I would expect a little more than a piece of laughs, 3 baby new kartoffels, a half boiled egg, a few green beans and cherry tomatoes. the main selling point of the sterling was that you could eat outside in the sun, so that you could previously forgive the below par service and average food, but with the scalpel now completely erected, almost all the sun has gone by 1:15. obviously this is not her fault, but does not make what was tolerable before."

"We visited today for a special birthday gathering I must confess after reading recent reviews I was a bit worried! we travelled from various places round the country used Gogos as a central meeting point all I can say us wow! yes it appears the menu has recently shrunk but their was still a good choice with 10 of us eating there were no complaints could maybe do with a couple more veggie options would be my only comment. The food when it arrived was beautifully cooked presented. Service was good, staff were attentive friendly, nothing was too much trouble! beware the 'cake policy ' though apparently you can take a birthday cake they will present it to the birthday person, but you are not allowed to eat it on site! this must be a fairly new thing as one of the staff seemed to momentarily forget was horrified that they 'd brought the cake out but no plates we reminded him he said oh yeah, the cake policy and just smirked! no big thing to us really, but worth knowing about!"

"This is a lovely pub with a cosy atmosphere. The main impression is that it has retained a village feel without any loss of the food quality which was very high. Our party had among other things the steak pie, the sausage and mash and chicken pasta. The service was attentive. The menu selections are just right. Apple Crumble with custard for pudding. Don't think this is trying to be a super gastro pub it's just a very friendly and well managed local with very high quality pub food. An absolutely delicious and unfussy afternoon. The London Pride is well kept. My only comment would be to enquire if the landlord or landlady might think about keeping a couple of non alcohol IPAs bitter stout or porter bottles. There is Peroni and Heineken non alcohol at the time of writing. 10 out 10."

"I had to go up twice to ask to order and call a waiter as we hadn't been asked if we wanted drinks after being sat in the restaurant for minutes. The bill was wrong too, I don't think this one server is reflective of all wait staff but service was appalling on this particular day. When I went up to ask for someone to take our order, I was ignored for a while too... Atmosphere was great, and food was really nice."

"Meat liquor take over my local and I can’t even eat there anymore because it’s only burgers most days. I might be tempted but the meat liquor chain can’t be bothered to offer a gluten free bun. You can’t have your burger wrapped in lettuce in apparently. Is it so hard to keep a couple of GF buns in the freezer? Meat liquor been trading long enough surely!!?? Web presence says ‘its a pub that happens to have a meat liquor inside’ but the corporate style pictures on the walls don’t make it a good place to linger anymore….. bit of a dining hall feel…. shame….. and a bit short sighted really….. tune into forest hill and it might look after you. It ain’t East Dulwich ….. and nor does it want to be."

"Let down. Like someone else mentioned, it has indian restaurant of the year emblazoned outside. ummm, lies! there is no way this is true i was really unimpressed with this place. we advised our waiter we only had an hour to dine, with that he basically told us what we were eating and lied about the cost (he said it was £10.90 pre threatre for starter and main. i said i didn 't want a starter but he said i would get one anyway but then added £1.50 each on bill at the end didn 't have time to argue!! ..... the portions were TINY. i will say the chicken was lovely and really well cooked but there was so little of it. i would never recommend this place to anyone."

"A friend and I visited the Hillside for dinner and some drinks on Friday evening. Food was fabulous and they were so accommodating for my friend who is celiac, servers were quick to get us an altered menu explaining what she was able to order. The service was fast and servers were lovely and friendly helping and giving us recommendations. My friend can be quite difficult to take out but they were able to answer any question she threw at them. After our meal we moved to the bar to finish with some drinks and the bar staff were just as friendly as the restaurant staff even with a full bar of customers. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and the live music just topped off a fabulous night for us!"

"We were a party of 10 adults and 3 children, greeted and made to feel welcome by Olivia who looked after us brilliantly all evening. We had various menu choices and every dish was excellent with each person being served at the same time. "popped in to order some food and the smell of the food was yummy, young family eating at the table...it was busy...I thought this must be good ,judging by the orders the chef had to cook... I went for the chef's special wrap I ordered, can of coke and crunchy fries, should be enough... the price was very reasonable and when asking about the sauces, all homemade on the premises. i went for mango and lime. got the order and sat at the table...oh my god!! this is way better than nandos.... if you want proper healthy food then come to chickie one in Bournemouth. I will be ordering here again..."

"I used to love this restaurant. I loved their Brie and bacon panini and their English breakfast, plus a whole host of other dishes. The last three times I pre-orders either a panini it was awful. They were on inferior panini bread, there was hardly any Brie in it and it was packed with too much bacon. I tried to order that again and it was just as poor. I waited half an hour for it, when thought I pre-ordered it and it was stone cold. I then tried a breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs instead of fried for a takeaway. I pre-ordered it and I again had to wait for Hal an hour for it to appear. I was given two slices of bread and all the elements for the sandwich were given to me in a plastic box. I had to assemble it myself when I got home. The quality of each individual element was awful too. The bacon was very fatty and extremely salty, the sausages were cheap nasty thin frozen ones and the eggs were over cooked. They used to serve their breakfasts with lovely fat sausages and good quality bacon and their scrambled eggs were never over cooked. It’s a crying shame because this was a great restaurant with a solid trade from the trading estate during the week and locals in the evening and weekends. I cannot see that continuing now. It’s changed hands a few times and I guess if people are not working from offices anymore then it cannot live up to it’s former glory."

"My experience at the restaurant was disappointing. I waited for two hours just for a starter and a main course. The staff and kitchen seemed to lack a proper understanding of gluten-free options. When I inquired about gluten-free choices, they simply responded that "anything can be gluten-free," which was misleading. Additionally, the gluten-free pizza I ordered was undercooked in the middle. Overall, it was not an enjoyable visit."

"Roasts arrived and required heating up, the roast potatoes were dry. The rest of it was lovely meat cooked really well. The sticky toffee pudding went down very well but I was disappointed in the brownie, crumbled as soon as I put my spoon in; didn’t eat most of it. "I ordered the duck, as well as a lazy and orange spring roll for a starter. Both were fantastic, and I loved the combination of seasoned and citrus flavors. For the main course, I had the pork chop from the specials menu, which was also very good, complemented by a delicious mixed berry cheesecake for dessert. Unfortunately, my partner wasn’t as satisfied with her meal. She found the halloumi burger to be mediocre, and the chips were slightly undercooked. The apple crumble she ordered had more crumble than apple and also fell flat, coming across as just average. It seemed like the waiting staff lost their energy around 8:45 PM, as their service became less attentive as the night went on. Overall, it was a tale of two dining experiences: one excellent and the other less so. The ambiance in the tent area was wonderful, but the service could have been better towards the end of our meal."

"We visited on Mother’s Day as a party of six. We had a nice time and the atmosphere was lovely. Most of us had the roasts, either beef or lamb. The meat was perfectly cooked, as were the vegetables, beautiful crunchy roasties and gorgeous cauliflower cheese. The roasts did not disappoint. Very good. One of our party had a burger which sadly was not enjoyed, he described it as wet and greasy , the grease had saturated the bun. It’s described as coming with all the accompaniments which were really good chips and a dump of rocket on the side of the plate. This is one of our pet hates, no effort or thought into offering a seasoned and interesting little side salad, just rocket is just not good enough. No dressing on that either so that was a disappointment. Starters were fantastic, the chowder and ravioli were very much enjoyed and the Tiramisu and sticky toffee puds were great. Service was fine. 5/6 of us really enjoyed our main courses and the roasts are really very good. Just a shame about the burger."
