"we were on Sunday night for a meal and a few drinks. it is so nice to be able to sit in such a pub and enjoy a quite quiet evening without raying music, and the cessle and bussle of a crazy restaurant. this place is just as beautiful as other pub restaurants in the environment and no more or less expensive. the atmosphere inside is cozy and warm, as the outside of the building would suggest that it will be. the 4 of us had a beautiful meal and in most part were waited without fuss or annoying. a member of the waiting staff was quite blunt and at the point of not being so rude, but rather, as if they had just recently started the job. I will give them the advantage of the doubt in this matter, as the rest of the experience was great. the quality of the food seemed to be a good standard, although my risotto was a bit hard, instead of creamy. good choice of drinks as they would expect. a beautiful evening and a much enjoyed experience."

The food was fantastic! The langoustine bisque that accompanied the Scampi was delicious!

Just put service was slow but that was really due to the restaurant being busy. Not a fault. I have wanted to go The Hillside for quite a while. We weren't disappointed. We will be back.

Lovely restaurant. Went for an early dinner with a friend. Lovely hostess showed us to our table. Table service was excellent and food was piping hot. As it was an early dinner the restaurant itself was pleasantly quiet with other tables filled but no raucous noise. Staff were helpful and very friendly and service was excellent. Highly recommend.

While visiting family in the area, we opted to dine at a local restaurant. We were seated upstairs and received excellent service, never feeling neglected. The food was tasty and served in generous portions. The staff were friendly and attentive, constantly ensuring our glasses were filled. We enjoyed our drinks in the beer garden, taking in the lovely atmosphere. We will definitely return on our next visit.

a cozy, rustic location in the beautiful hillsborough. I would give him 5 stars, only my starter, who was a zeasarsalat, I found a little underwhelming. there was no hugging in it (I doubled the menu and there is no one in it) and instead there was a lot of red wobbles that was a bit much. the sirloin steak was delicious, so tender and juicy when the medium was cooked. salted caramel brownie for dessert was soft, sweet and just the correct amount of saltiness. I would recommend and go back.

such a fantastic place. I decided to take the woman to the birthday there. the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. it made a big difference that we could also take our wee pup. they even had dog contracts available for free. the food was delicious and very fresh. the selection of the beer was also a nice note. it seems to be a rare thing in Northern Ireland to try something else. I recommend maggie’s leap. we would have liked to stay longer, but that wanted to come back. the employees were very helpful and they are really a loan to the institution.

My family and I recently visited this restaurant for a get together and were seated at a quiet table with a beautiful view of the garden. Three of us ordered the delicious gambas prawns, while my partner tried the scotch egg from the specials menu and loved it. For our main courses, I had the perfectly cooked seabass and my partner enjoyed the mixed grill from the specials. The rest of our party ordered the scampi steak sandwich and all found the food to be excellent. Our server Molly Akanksha took great care of us and was very friendly. I highly recommend this hidden gem of a local restaurant.

"Where to begin? Our mother decided to “treat” myself and my sister to lunch. However, soon our joy turned into laughter, and then to severe disappointment. My sister and I shared a “panini” of bacon, Brie and cranberry sauce. Firstly, the “panini” was a baguette...which had been seared then microwaved. The bacon was the best bit, yet had clearly reheated in a microwave. The Brie, was next to non-existent. The cranberry sauce, oh my goodness it was atrocious. Our “panini” was not a generous size for a grand price of half of which was filled with psychedelic blood-like sugary cranberry sauce (with giant chunks of cranberry). First when my sister took a bite I thought she was over exaggerating, for I had not tasted the cranberry sauce yet, it was upon my second bite the true horror of the “panini” had come to fruition. Picture this, expecting to have a bite of creamy Brie, crispy bacon, and tart cranberry sauce, and then instead being met with a taste that resembled sweetened jelly powder. I tried to convince myself that my tastebuds were deceiving me I fought through the overwhelming taste of sweeties, to attempt to taste the Brie, which in fact I couldn’t find. The bacon flavour barely made it through and the bread was more a sponge for soaking up the cranberry sauce. As you can see from the photo provided, in order to make some attempt at finishing the “panini”, my sister and I had to dissect it and surgically remove what looked like blood clots cranberries. To add to this horror, there was but a sad pile of coleslaw, apparently a pile of crinkle-cut crisps it wasn’t even to my surprise at this point that there was one solitary crinkle-cut crisp among a variety of other flavoured basic crisps. To top this all off, our mother bravely tried the pink foam substance (we still aren’t sure what it was) and she had to immediately reach for her glass of water to wash away the taste. This experience produced within us both feelings of guilt and shame. Guilt, because our mother (who rarely eats out) was attempting to “treat” us to brunch. She felt guilty at inflicting such a disastrous “panini” on us as a “treat”. Shame, because we are the type of family who NEVER leave food on our plates, yet we were so embarrassed about how it looked like we barely ate anything at all, so we quickly made an exit. In conclusion, the hot food needs serious reform. On a positive note, the staff seemed friendly."
