"Meeting friends here for Sunday lunch this afternoon, we 've all come away slightly disappointed by our choice. The Black Horse is immaculate, having clearly had a decent budget spent on interior decoration and furnishings, with a cherishing of its connections to nearby Pinewood the walls are festooned with black and white photos of famous film stars and directors who have been past customers. At the same time, the bathrooms are labelled stable boys and stable girls , playing on the obvious coach house traditions from a pub at a crossroads. All very nice, as were the lovely staff who greeted us as we arrived and brought us our food. But that 's where the problem lay. All of the niceties failed to disguise the fact that our food was really very disappointing. Five had opted for the roast beef, all agreeing that the beef was very well done, with rock hard Yorkshire puddings and soggy broccoli. I 'd opted for bangers and mash, to be presented with a small mound of mash, three sausages and a large bowl of peas. The mash was really quite inadequate a portion, certainly in relation to the peas portion. As we were amongst the first of the day (1245 for 1), this disappointing food offer seemed hard to explain there was no rush to handle. We were at least ten minutes into the meal before being asked if all was well some of our party would have complained if we 'd had time to accept a second run at the meal, but we didn 't. So, with a bill of £73 for four adults and three kids, only one kid seemed happy with her meal, while everyone else left a little less than impressed. Definitely, it could have been better."

"We arrived for our booking to be told that there was no booking made under our details at all. They did fortunately have a cancellation that they gave us, otherwise we would have been left with no where to eat on new years eve! The waitress plonked our bottle of wine down on the table, didn't even open it, let alone pour it. The food was outstanding apart from the mashed potato which was definitely powdered."

"We enjoy dining at The Three Cups as a family. However, during our most recent visit, two members of our group ordered the chicken and pork dish. Unfortunately, the meat was tough and difficult to eat, leaving both individuals dissatisfied. We were disappointed as we were celebrating a birthday together. We will consider returning in the future, especially when our grandson has a football game at Stamford Bridge and The Three Cups is conveniently located near the field."

"Two minutes from Kentish Town station is the new branch of Joe’s Southern Kitchen Bar. Having walked past its Covent Garden branch, I always made a mental note to visit it. But as the London food scene keeps on expanding, so does my list of restaurants/cafes/popups to visit To celebrate the opening of Joe’s in Kentish Town and to showcase Executive Chef Trevor Tobin (Steam Rye, The Big Easy and Goodman) and his team’s culinary finesse in the kitchen, we were invited down for the press night. Whilst we had a large corner table, the place was quite busy for 6:30PM in the evening as it was also open to the general public. Hence, you can tell whether the restaurant is genuinely...read more"

"We visited The Lodge for Mother's Day lunch, after having booked. The meal itself was enjoyable with good quality dishes (we all had the roast, mix of beef and lamb really good joints! , well presented and which we thought were all value for money. How ever, we felt the service was somewhat lacking we had to ask for menus after a while, drinks order taken for only half the table then rushed off before asking the rest, had to ask for table water couple of times, etc. I appreciate that it might have been unusually busy for a Sunday given it was Mother's Day but I'm always a bit surprised when restaurants seem caught off guard by this, especially when they have a special menu in place."

"My husband and I had made a reservation for Sunday dinner, but had to cancel because the latest time they could book us was 4:30pm. As a diabetic, I needed to eat closer to 6:00pm. Despite this, we received a friendly greeting over the phone and decided to give the place a try while we were in the area for five days. We only wish we had visited more than once. This is a family-run business with two welcoming ladies at the front of the house. We felt welcomed from the moment we arrived. Covid precautions were well in place, with sufficient spacing to make us feel safe. We both opted for the lasagne, chips, and peas special for £5. When we asked about how they manage to offer such a good deal, we learned that all the produce is locally sourced and homemade, with even grandma helping out in the kitchen. The food was delicious, with generous portions and a variety of flavors including garlic, oregano, turmeric, fennel, and marjoram. The homemade bechamel sauce was rich and creamy, topped with a good cheese. The hand-cut chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, with petit pois on the side. We hope to return to the area so we can dine here again. Highly recommended."

"Hi, We went there after a long walk in Glennifer Braes. We were all ready for our lunch. The Inn had been recommended as a place to have fiss. h finger burgers... all those who had it said it lived up to its reputation. The mushroom toastada was lovely and presented well. THe genral decor was themed around the highland cows... which made interesting talking point. I would recommend it as the staff were willing to go that slightly extra mile to accommodate dietry needs request. Definitely recommend it. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Parking space: Plenty of parking Parking options: Free street parking"

"Sunday lunch with my girlfriend and foodie Daughter, having booked on Saturday evening, and being accommodated for lunch the next day was very much appreciated, thank you for that, my Daughters choice of roast would always be lamb and it’s so nice to see it on a menu nowadays and especially here and to be fair it was cooked to perfection as I also had it, the whole meal was cooked the same way, lovely nice choice of fresh vegetables and the best roast potatoes I have ever had outside of home, now that’s how you judge a roast dinner, am I not right readers? the food was outstanding, my girlfriend had the chicken and by the look of her plate, obviously enjoyed it and she doesn’t really like a roast, says it all, if it is cooked with love, it clearly shows on the plate, big thanks to all the kitchen staff my only criticism and the reason I didn’t give it a 5 was just down to a couple of younger members of serving staff, smile and look like you enjoy what your doing, even if your not, it doesn’t cost anything, a total opposite to the nice lady that greeted us on arrival, would I recommend it, ABSOLUTELY, will I be back? I wouldn’t go anywhere else in and around here for Sunday lunch."

"My friend I went for lunch on Sunday. I am a regular diner at this establishment. Unfortunately our experience yesterday was not a good one. We both ordered Sunday lunch trio with a side of cauliflower cheese. We waited a good 30 minutes for our order then the cauliflower cheese arrived. We sent this back as we didn't yet have our mains and didn't want it to get cold. Our food finally came and then came the cauliflower cheese. Our mains were very nice but the cauliflower was terrible. It was not cooked through was very hard the cheese sauce was almost non existent. We sat with our dirty plates for more than 30 mins before asking for them to be cleared. We were asked if we would like to see the dessert menu. We said we did. After about 15 mins my friend went asked for it at the counter. We could see all of the waiting staff chatting so it wasn't that they were very busy. When our desserts came they were very disappointing. One was ice cream but they had the flavours wrong it had chocolate sauce that was neither asked for or wanted. The other was creme brulee. The was no burnt sugar topping, none. And it wasn't set. It was runny sloppy. We didn't complain because by then we had had enough. We paid the bill, which was £67 left. I certainly won't be taking friends there on a Sunday for lunch again. It was a very disappointing experience."

"Awesome gem that I’ve found just by searching for kid-friendly places reasonably close to all relatives and friends invited to my son’s third birthday. It’s the sort of place that would deserve to exceed the usual review scale, six stars would at least be required to represent the distance between The Boot and many other places that I reviewed with 5 stars. Ever since we set foot into this great pub, we’ve been welcomed with smiles and a level of kindness that other places reserve only for returning guests. The food was delicious and reasonably priced and there’s a wide range of good cocktails, beers and wines available. The kids play area is wonderful and my son played all afternoon. There are also many tables close to the play area so adults can have food there while keeping an eye on their children. The weather wasn’t great so we had food indoors, and even if our table was near the kitchen, no smell or noise disturbed us. All the staff sang Happy Birthday to my son while taking the cake that we had been allowed to bring over, and overall it’s been a perfect day. I will definitely look for opportunities to come back here."

"We were really disappointed with the food nothing like it was previously. Pretty mediocre lots of dishes in total) not available on Saturday night. Food was very basic and presentation dated. The meat was however well cooked. The focus on game now...replaced with a middle of the road menu but at high end prices. Wine very over priced and overall nothing in this experience was anything but average apart from the service that was attentive and professional. We had the blood orange salad which was ok but the duck rillett tasteless served with a chunk of bread and over powering chutney. The lamb and venison was well cooked but the vegetables disappointing. The chocolate fondent pistachio ice cream came almost completely melted. The English cheese board was pretty uninspired At for we won’t be returning"

"Very nice Seafood platter, burger was OK and pie was pretty good so all in all food was tasty, good quality and reasonably priced. Service was OK, bit awkward with the one bar person, but the younger members of the service team were great. It was a very traditional pub and was what you would expect, the ladies loos had very nice toiletries and smelt great too. I was told by my wife Price per person: £60–70 Food: 4 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3 Recommended dishes: Pie of the Day Steak and Ale"

"Well this place is a little gem pope's in once for some food and returned twice a week ever since, the food is outstanding all locally sourced and they use products from their own farm ie lamb ect. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful the interior is extremely clean and is now mine and my wifes favourite place to dine out. I would highly highly recommend the bird in hand to anyone looking for a place to visit. Service: Dine in"
"Got stuck at the airport overnight on our way back to the States. We were put up close at a hotel so we searched for local pubs. The White Horse had good reviews. Watch your head! You walk down a couple of stairs and need to duck to get into the pub. It was great! Great service, friendly patrons, quaint and it had plenty of locals to talk to. I give the food a 5, because we went there for the ambience and drinks. Not for the food. The good food was a bonus. If we had gone out for food, I would rate it a 4. We had the dirty chips, beef stew, lasagna Verdi and spicy squid. The chips could have been covered more with the toppings. The spicy fried squid was good. The lasagna could have used more seasonings. The beef stew was perfect. So, no complaints. If you choose to smoke, there's an outdoor area that is covered where you can eat, drink and enjoy your tobacco. The bathrooms were extremely clean. You can tell that the whole crew at this place cares about customer satisfaction. And they will do their best to take care of you. Great experience!"

"Having spent the day in Gargrave (a childhood holiday haunt , decided to get something to eat al fresco at The Masons Arms. Ordered a fish pie and a lasagna, both arrived roasting hot after being freshly cooked, and both went down a treat! The pub has a good range of beers, lagers and ciders (nice to have a choice and not be fobbed off with the usual draught Strongbow . Location scored 4/5 due to having a fair few flies buzzing around (only to be expected, but perhaps a citronella candle/lantern could be delivered to outside diners to alleviate this small issue . Recommended both meals were delicious and stayed hot until the last mouthful! (No photo of the fish pie it was dived into too quickly!"
"Popped in on the off chance yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised. From the minute we arrived, we were greeted at the door with a smile and great selection of drinks to choose from. After looking at the menu and specials board, we decided to eat, my wife is celiac so can be limited in most local pub due to kitchen size, however once again, faultless on there behalf, even down to the bread being generally good gluten free bread. The food was spectacular With lots of flavour and even options for gluten free sponge pudding and custard I had a 3 meet burger and triple cooked chips and it was all perfect. I can say from top to bottom- a great experience! Thanks to the Staff and all involved. It’s definitely worth a visit and a lovely walk through the woods from Kings Hill."

"I went there for my birthday and was absolutely knocked away by this restaurant. If you love steak you will love the sharing 32oz trio of steaks with all the trimmings. The food was the best that I have had in Newport and well worth the visit. If your a gin fan then it's a must. They have an uncountable number of different gins that can be made to your liking."

"After 2 years of being in Oxford, I finally decided to give the King's Arms (Wheatley) a try. I went in and was given a very warm welcome! The barkeep was very friendly and made sure everything was ok, etc. An absolute A+ for service in my books.I ordered the sausage and mash and chicken wings, quite pricey in my opinion. Came to a grand total of 20 quid! Thank god I didn't get a pint with it!To be critical (and hence why it's only 4 stars), the chicken wings were hard and not tender at all. They were also misadvertised as garlic and chili wings to my surprise, when they came out, they were just plain chicken wings drizzled in sweet chili sauce. This slightly ticked me off since I was expecting the Chinese takeaway style of finely chopped garlic and raw chili, deep fried in batter. However, the sausage and mash was extremely nice! I'd highly recommend that. I'd definitely return here afrer a long study session to relax and chat to the locals (who are very friendly!)Overall a great pub with a lovely cozy vibe to it! Please visit it!"
