"The organisation in this place is an absolute shambles. I would be ashamed to be in charge of this place AND I would treat my customers with a damn sight more respect! Arrived as a party of 5 with a booking from a week ago to find people queuing out of the door past the sign 'wait here to be seated '. For 5 minutes NO ONE WAS SEATED although 75% of the tables were empty. Eventually side stepped the queue because most were waiting for the bar, and asked a member of staff whether we needed to wait there..... only to be taken straight to our table we could have waited there another 20 minutes if we hadn 't taken the initiative. We ordered drinks and waited 15 minutes for them to arrive. We ordered food and AFTER 45 MINUTES waiting finally asked where it was. It started arriving 60 minutes after we ordered it, and the final meal landed 20 minutes later. Frankly unbelievable to think that they think a 60 minute wait for the first meal is reasonable AND a 20 minute wait for the final meal to arrive after that! With each meal arriving (they arrived in 3 deliveries 10 minutes apart) we got a bleated half hearted 'sorry for the delay ' while we watched other people order after us and receive their meals before us. Finally when we left, having eaten 3 satisfactory meals and 2 very very average meals AN HOUR later than we should have we paid and left for the last time. Not a word of genuine recognition of the fact that their incompetence from front of house through to the kitchen spoiled our family outing. And not a hint of an attempt to make us want to come back. This place deserves its 3.5 trip advisor rating it is only 3.5 on its best day. P.S. I had the burger they use in their Trip Advisor picture. Mine came with half the portion of chips shown and no salad except a solitary mini pickle sitting between the burger and the chip pot"

"I was really looking forward to visiting this 'gastro-pub ' especially as it advertised a decent choice of vegan options which could even be made gluten free with a request to the server. Two of the vegan options were not available, one because 'the mash wasn 't vegan and the chef can 't make anymore ' and one because the pasta wasn 't vegan, it had egg in it. It took a while each time to be informed each choice wasn 't available. The 'vegan wellington ' was basically just pastry and veg (most places would make this with lentils for protein) so I was left with a choice of a very expensive burger or very expensive salad. I 'm just glad I didn 't need to start asking about gluten free options too! The waiter seemed to have no idea what was in the dishes or which ones were available. Very disappointing. I only gave it 2 stars as the kids seemed happy with their very expensive burgers."

"Me and my family decided to have a meal at the bank house as we saw on Instagram they had a Prix Fixe Menu and we are currently on holiday in Kings Lynn. We had a lovely meal at the bank house last year and when we saw the menu of 2 course for £16 and 3 courses for £20 advertised, we thought this was such a good deal! However, we arrived at the Bank House and when seated we’re only given the normal menu. I then asked the waitress if we could have the Prix Fixe Menu. The waitress then said we don’t do that and a lot of people have been asking about that. I then said to the waitress that it was posted on their instagram six days ago and then reposted two days ago. The waitress then said oh I don’t think it’s on today and I then mentioned how it said that it’s from Monday to Friday from 12pm to 6pm. The waitress then said she will go and ask the manger. They then came back and said that it shouldn’t have been posted yet due to issues with the chef and said they we won’t be offended if we leave. We decided to look at the menu but then left to eat somewhere else after feeling disappointed. I do feel that they should remove the posts advertising for the Prix Fixe Menu (on Instagram and I presume on Facebook too) as it could encourage people to book but then to found out it doesn’t actually exist and may be too embarrassed to leave. Also this is a bit unfair on people who may be on a budget who are looking for a nice meal as a family treat. Hopefully they can sort this issue out as it would’ve been lovely to try this menu, but it should be taken down as it is still posted on instagram."

"Many years ago too many) I visited The French Horn with my wife but at that time you were not sure if it was a Pub or Restaurant, Boy has that changed, Great Food served on hot plates..Great friendly service and the young man serving us understood the needs of myself and my guests all of us over 75. The food arrived spot on and quickly which surprised us seeing as the Restaurant was rammed. We all had the Sunday Roast Beef £17.50) which included Cauliflower Cheese..Vegetables..and 3 or 4 slices Beef..excellent Roast Potatoes along with plenty of other veg. Timothy Taylor at £4.70..Stella.£5.00 followed by Coffee at £2.50 and £3.45 Latte the bill for the 3 meals and extras was £73.15 more than acceptable having had an exceptional meal. A really cosy efficient Pub with friendly staff. We will return to what, in my opinion, is the Best Sunday Lunch in the Alton area. Thank uou very much"

"I would have loved to loved this place. The staff are lovely and attentive despite being busy: it’s just a food that has room to improve. The meat eaters may have better luck am pescatarian so limited to prawns and vegetarian husband… well, I can see he would have enjoyed a more substantial portions and options after a day of walking. And packaged salad leaves or bread rolls… I know we are in the country side… but please..little details like this are : … I suppose it’s “traditional Spanish tapas”.. but lack of vegetarian options even manchego cheese for protein.. anything) in the with considerable vegetarian population) UK is a shame…am sure a little creativity in this aspect would make this place superb. I suppose in Lynton the idea is that there’s enough travellers to fill the tables anyway… but it would be nice."

"I visited The Cowshed with my fiancé on a Saturday night out. She had heard good things but I’d never heard of the restaurant before.Arrival was interesting as it is down a narrow country lane and the entrance sign is hidden if coming from the Wolverhampton direction but we found it eventually. The car park isn’t very well lit or surfaced which in the wind, rain and my partner wearing heels wasn’t the best.Once inside it’s very welcoming, the staff were lovely and wanted to make sure everything was excellent for our visit. Unfortunately after us having one round of drinks they never checked for any more. We also found as the night got busier the smaller room we were in was really a corridor down to the busier back room with a flurry of people coming through somewhat ruining the atmosphere. The menu is quite limited but we both found something to eat without issue. The starters and mains were lovely, the hand cut chips and steak especially. The desserts seemed a little lacking, almost mass produced in comparison which was a shame.Overall for a smaller independent restaurant its’s a nice place to eat but needs a little more polish to be really good."

"Had lunch in The French Horn a few weeks ago after a windy dog walk at Sharpenhoe Clappers the owners also now have The Crooked Billet which is my local, so we thought we'd check it out. I had the sausage and onion sandwich with quite possibly the best skin on fries I've eaten in a long time! The staff were really friendly and the bar had a nice atmosphere. It's quite a big pub with large dining areas and I imagine gets very busy in the summer. All in all, well worth a visit if you're in the area."

"We were all disappointed with the meal and we will not be coming again . The belly pork was over priced at 18.95 !! It was a small bit of cracking with two or three shreds of pork and that was it .. if you don’t mind paying for a plate full of mash then I guess 18-95 is a bargin !! Chips were over cooked im sure they had been cooked several times and even cold which surprised me .. I love my food and eat almost anything but this is a place we won’t be returning to ."

"Young chap with blonde hair (don't know his name) behind the bar was very nice. We went 2 nights in succession, once in the restaurant, once in the bar area. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. There was a tv which was thankfully off and background music which was just that, so good for us. It was tastefully decoated and furnished. Overall ambience of upmarket and quality. The weather was abominable and we went at night so can't comment on the outside. We didn't use the toilets. We would certainly return."
"We've been here many a time however today's will probably be the last. We didn't have a reservation but we're able to get a table saying how busy it was. We ordered drinks and food pretty quickly. We noted that there were 3 people taking orders and 1 behind the bar, this resulted in drinks being poured then sat at the bar. We eventually got drinks after around 6/7 mins of them being sat on the bar. We noted that there were not enough staff. Drinks were piling up on the bar, food was sitting on the pass waiting to go out and people were queuing by the entrance to be seated. The staff just couldn't cope. I wouldn't even try ringing no one answers it even when they are standing next to it doing nothing either. After 45 mins of waiting for food and table next to us receiving their starter and then mains (ordered after us) we queried our food. We were told that we ordered after the table next to us and that it depends on what we order. I know this is incorrect as the person has allergies so the waitress went through what they could and couldn't eat. Also it shouldn't matter what you order it's when the order goes to the kitchen that matters. We were told we were next however 15 minutes later the food came. Don't get me wrong the pies are lovely however the pastry lids have changed and are no longer puff pastry more like flat uncooked lids. We won't be visiting anytime soon. There's a serious issue with service and there needs to be more staff. Having drinks sit on the bar for 10 minutes isn't good. Shame really could be a great place to visit"

"What can I say about Rico's? The best Italian restaurant I've ever been to and the most friendly staff you can get! I've been coming to Ricos in Poulton-le-Fylde for around 18 years now, and honestly, I've never had a bad experience or meal here. Ordered a Serloin Steak Diane for myself tonight and my mother got a Fillet Stilton. Both came with vegetables which were nice and crunchy and potatoes served with the Diane sauce which was absolutely amazing! Obviously accompanied by a lovely pint of peroni, or two! I will never stop coming to this fantastic Italian restaurant. It is 100% worth the money you pay! Not only that, I've been here to celebrate various birthdays and they always make you feel special, bringing out the instruments and a candle in a desert courtesy of the restaurant. Get yourselves there people, you won't regret it!"

"From the moment we entered The Bell, everything felt just right. The bar was lively, offering a great selection of ales. It was also dog-friendly, complete with a lovely personalized letter for our dog that included poop bags, toys, and treats. The staff were all delightful, and the location in the heart of the village couldn't be better. While the evening menu was somewhat limited, the food was outstanding, and breakfast was equally impressive. The quirky atmosphere added to the charm, as the dining room ceiling is supposedly supported by a column of books, and our room featured a tree and a barber's chair! Overall, it was a fantastic discovery, and it’s easy to see why it has received several awards!"
"A table of 3 had just ordered before us we were the only ones in the pub. I ordered the meat lasagna. We waited nearly an hour before our meals came. By this time the bar was busy so the cook brought us are meals without ceremony plonked them on the table and left. I think if he needs to serve tables he should have clean whites on and employ some front of house hospitality skills. I started my meal and found the lasagne a little watery and tasteless, the garlic bread bland and the undressed salad looked like left overs from a previous meal. Continuing with my meal I found the center stone cold. A this point the cook had returned to the bar I called him over and told him how disappointed I was with the meal. He responded with it wasn’t his fault as he had followed the time instructions and did I want him to heat it up again. To which I replied you didn’t make a very good job the first time could I have a refund ? Without reply he went to till to make out he was refunding me (which he didn’t) and went back to the kitchen. I have been to the pub before and meet the landlord and returned due to the fact he always puts on a good cask ale. I think he would be very disappointed to find such poor food and service coming from his kitchen. I will not return again and defiantly will not recommend the pub to anyone."

"Really nice, had driven past a lot, didn't think it looked like much but finally went in and glad we did. It's bigger than it looks inside and out and the garden is enclosed and has a great play area with loads to keep kids busy. We sat at a booth inside and had great service. Good menu too and the food we ordered was with us reasonably quickly, well priced and delicious. Will be going back. Service: Dine in"

"Ohh wow, what can I say probably definitely shouldn’t say a real lot actually, not about all aspects anyway! Hahaha justsayin fella! Well, it’s a very different take on a business management style I suppose. But then, thankfully, we’re all individuals with our beliefs, opinions and what options are available and choose Crack on there pal, you do it your way if you want! Totally scrub whatever procedures out of your way, yes? Go on matey!! A thing that goes along with owning your own business, quite a lot actually it’s hard work sometimes, baffles you loads as to how come! No matter how hard the tasks are, how simple they can be also, no matter what accolades, awards popularity even , that you chase!!! If your room guests don’t return hardly, your dinners would rather prefer to stay home with a Co-Op ready meal and drinkers are as thin on the ground just exactly like your “Passing Trade” (footfall) (loyal locals) and the profits reported reflect like chicken feed. Why would you though! Sadist? Weirdo? A little dim? LikesBeeingSkint? Upshot of my review would indicate, that the chances are more than likely that I would’ve slept better on ‘Outdoor Furniture’ experienced finer quality menu dishes and customer service, when eating from a roadside kebab van, like where polystyrene trays and plastic forks rule and everything is dripping with grease."

"Being local and retired, I try most places from Coltishall to Gorleston, Reedham to Wroxham, on a regular basis. I come here every Thursday for breakfast. Often on other days, when my wife can join me, we have lunch together. Friends have joined us on yet other occasions. We have frequented State and Willow for around two years. The reason is, we look for quality food, quality service and reasonable prices. Staithe and Willow never fail. The owners bend over backwards to accommodate everyones needs. The charm of the place and the staff, invigorates us every time. Whether its Eggs Benedict, English Breakfast, Fish and chips or Sunday roast, sat inside the quaint cottage or outside in the pretty 'bistro style ' garden, with or without your dog, you 're on a winner here."

"Haven’t been to this pub for many years. We have friends over from Ireland and had seen the pub advertised a few times so decided to give it a try. So very glad we did. Had the warmest of welcomes from the two lovely ladies serving at the bar who were great fun. The food was absolutely superb, quickly delivered, hot, plentiful and delicious. Will be back again very soon. Our friends were also very impressed. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

"From all we'd read, this pub should be an ideal spot to eat dinner on a summer evening by the river. When we went there, it certainly looked ideal which is why we stopped and went to the bar to order food. For some bizarre reason, when the pub was far from busy, we were told there would be an hour's wait for food. This was at 8pm and they stopped serving food at 9pm so we weren't sure how that was going to work. An hour? When there was hardly anyone there? I guess that's why it was quiet... and also why people were sitting in their riverside beer garden eating fish chips from the chippy across the road. Which is where we went instead."

"Used to stop here for the great bacon rolls. Previous stop realised that they had changed the bacon, not so streaky and fattier so decided to ask for poached eggs on brown toast. Waited for some time and eventually served at the table with brown bread resembling cardboard and 2 hard boiled , but supposedly poached eggs! Spoke to a young lady who was table serving and asked who would have carried out the “poaching ” which she admitted being responsible. It was pointed out to her that poached eggs should not be hard boiled and that we were very disappointed. She offered to get the manager to come and see us. Few minutes later a young man came through and immediately accused us of being nasty to the lady. He was advised that we were perfectly within our rights to point out the failing and in no way had we been nasty. At this point the lady came over, had obviously been crying, and was asked by us if we had been nasty to which she replied no and apologised. The young man was advised that if he wished to speak to his customers he should get the facts straight before making such accusations. He was also asked where the manager was and replied that he was busy in the kitchen so wasn’t coming out to speak to us. The restaurant at this time was almost empty. It was pointed out that this was a terrible lack of appreciation to his customers and we left. It was also observed that on several occasions the young lads that were carrying through plates with buns there on were holding the buns on the plate with their fingers, total lack of hygiene. Won’t be back!"
