"We went to Zizzi, Oxford for a late dinner after the cinema so it was pretty empty. We were able to sit down half an hour earlier than I had booked and got our drinks quite quickly. We ordered bread for our starter, which came promptly, and the waitress went to get the vinegar. No-one reappeared with any olive oil so we asked for some. The man we had asked wondered off, came back shrugged his shoulders, pointed at the vinegar and walked away again. I wondered for a second if I was going mad-I was pretty sure that wasn't the olive oil! Then I noticed some on the other tables so got some myself. The food came about minutes after the starter had arrived so we got it all in one go; not great but better than waiting for ages I suppose. I ordered a spaghetti dish but wasn't given a spoon to eat it with. I tried to get somebody's attention for a while but no-one was around so I found a cutlery draw on a nearby table (the one with all their colouring books for kids etc) and got one myself. A waitress did then come past and I asked for parmesan. She came back and grated half of it over me and promptly left again! Each time we were served or asked for anything it was a different person and all, bar one, were rude. The food was alright but nothing special and not worth the money. The service was so bad I actually wondered if it was supposed to be part of the charm'! Will not be going back again."

"Booked in here for Tuesday 24th April evening when the weather was rubbish and I had the holiday blues so didn 't want to cook and the added bonus of a Groupon voucher to use also swayed my decision. Parking isn 't great to start with and I 'd guiltily parked outside someones house down from the cinema entrance : We entered for them to address us quizzically and claim that even though I 'd called earlier to book us in with my Groupon voucher reference they had nothing in the diary.. We were seated anyway at a very small table squashed right up at the back we had to 'bump ' passed 3 other tables which I found quite rude to the people sat down. We had no sooner got our coats off picked the menu up then we were pounced on to take our drink order efficient maybe or just a bit too eager? We ordered a bottle of red wine anyway not the house which I thought was a bit steep for a basic wine! and it was brought quick as a flash they then expected us to be ready to order we had only been in the place 8 minutes! The waitress was sent back to us and we ordered the meat antipasti to start, followed by the Gnocchi for me Lasagna for the Mr. We were brought a bread basket when the wine was produced however the butter given was solid clearly not to be used!The bread was nice and fresh though. Again, i didn 't even get a sip of my wine before the food was placed in front of us had it been pre prepared sat waiting to be ordered? The starter platter was to feature ' A selection of Italian meats and cheeses served with artichokes, olives and homemade bread ' the only bread we had was from the initial bread basket and I wouldn 't call 2 olives a selection! The meat was good quality but we felt a tad disappointed overall. We then had to wait 15 minutes for our main! My Gnocchi was nice, if a little bit bland, so I needed to be a bit over generous with the seasoning myself it lacked a bit of bite to be honest but the portion size was good. My Mr didn 't have may complaints for the Lasagna other than it could do with a bit more meat! maybe just a man thing! While we were eating, the close proximity of the tables to each other caused a few 'moments ' with the waiters a full portion of chips lost down the back of a diners chair and a bottle of beer knocked off the table when his bum stuck out a bit much in squeezing passed! Not really what I want to watch when having my dinner. We asked for the bill and sat for nearly 10 mins before I got up and went to the counter to ask again they were in no rush to get it paid either so we took the bill to the counter and paid there. I can see a lot of people are impressed with this place and go back on a regular basis I 'm not won over after this visit however. the tables are too close together the service is either too eager or too laid back where is the happy medium the beer wine list is a bit pricey the menu descriptions are a bit over zealous or they need to actually deliver on the description the food lacked seasoning. From when I observed during our meal, they are not short of business and do a good student trade. I 'm not sure for the 'professional ' couple however they have the right service/food/price quality balance I would be looking for to go regularly."

"We have bought a few pizzas during lockdown from Amici Mei and they have been nice. Today we ordered 4 pizzas for a birthday lunch and 2 were very burnt and 2 were just about alright to eat if you ate round half the black crust. As the kids were hungry we kept the 2 edible ones and called the shop about the other 2. The guy said to bring them in, which we did hunting for a parking space etc. When my partner got in, the chef said the Napoli was undercooked it was black on top! and margherita was ok it was also burnt on top ! Despite my having called them in advance, driven 5 mins down the road and hunted for parking, no joy. Really disappointing as we had had a few good pizzas but 4 burnt ones make for poor odds of always getting an edible pizza. Very rude and dismissive chef. Luckily soon the other better pizzerias will be open soon. I would say give your money to someone who gives a ...."

"We came here for a Father 's Day lunch. No draft beers but the bottled beers we had were lovely and cold. The building is stunning a beautiful old church which was what inspired us to book here in the first place. The staff were very attentive and really friendly, and the food was lovely. We were delivered an extra dessert by accident and rather than let it go to waste, we were given it for free. We really did have a lovely time, but what marred it was the fact they they take payment by card only which for us is a huge no no. £125 for the final bill and a £10 tip was on the little plate but it was refused because we only take cards oh, but we take tips in cash . Oh no you don 't. If you don 't want our cash to pay the bill, then you don 't want our cash in a tip. We usually boycott businesses that use this discriminatory method of pushing customers towards a cashless society, but because of the occasion we didn 't make a fuss, but I doubt we shall return which is a huge shame because we really did have a lovely time in a stunning setting. I felt bad not leaving a tip because the staff were lovely but this issue of card only payments needs to be mentioned in staff meetings and addressed by the company. It is discriminatory and lost them a reasonable sized tip. Customers should have a choice how they wish to pay. Cash is legal tender and not everyone has or wants to use cards. But for this one issue, the staff would have gotten their tip and this review would have been 5* instead of 4* and we would be looking forward to another booking."

"Ho ' dear what a horrible place I went to the gentleman 's toilet before ordering my meal what a dirty horrible toilet the mens urinals where caked with **** yes unsightly old dry caked wee and the mirrors where so dirty I could hardly see through them. The floor looked very suspicious, looks dirty. I told the waitress and she went in to a lock down and didn 't like it because I said the toilet was dirty and I used the word **** in the sentence and told us she doesn 't want to serve my partner and I because of my complaint . I 've never seen such a stroppy young upstart in my life she said do you want my name IT 'S EMILY to be honest I 've never been treated as bad from a very young lady in my life. I now know why the chain is getting such mixed bad reviews. it 's the last time I ever wanted to enter the doors of a Zizzi again in any location Zizzi have a good look at your restaurants Urgently! PS: This is me speaking now, David 's partner. The waitress was very rude and speaking so loud to us that the other customers must have been disturbed. What ever happens when a customer complains you have to take this serious and with respect. She has driven us out. We will not be spoken to like this. She also said she had cleaned the toilet LAST WEEK!"

"Hello, I came to Zizzis yesterday evening with my work colleagues as our Christmas meal. I called beforehand and the woman I spoke to was very helpful confirmed I could extend our booking from 8 to 12 people which I greatly appreciated. When we got there the booking could not be found, causing me stress with everyone else when in fact it was there all along and the person at the front didn’t look properly. Once we were seated we were given our waiter for the evening who unfortunately was not helpful in any way at all. We ordered two portions of olives, only one appeared. My friend ordered a meat pizza and when he came and bought it to her she asked for some extra pizza sauce to which he replied with it’s got meat on it, is that the meat you eat? (She was Indian and it just came across quite insensitive) I don’t think he smiled once during the entire 2 hours we were there He refused to engage with us, or ask if the meals were okay Trying to ask for more drinks made us feel bad as it appeared to be a very tiresome task for him to do his job Unfortunately I did not get his name as no one at Zizzis wore name badges last night. I was deeply disappointed in the service we had for our Christmas meal yesterday evening. "We visited the restaurant before attending a show at the Royal Albert Hall. The food was very tasty and authentically Italian. The pizza especially was the best I’ve had anywhere in the UK and the puddings, chocolate cake and tiramisu, were also exceptional. Everyone was very friendly and the service was great, especially from our waiter Yassin. The only (very minor) negative was that as the restaurant became busier, it became very noisy and hard to have a conversation. Could do with a bit of sound-proofing! Regardless, I would definitely recommend for a great Italian meal."

"Wanted to try a Zizzi as we heard they had introduced a Vegan menu in all their branches, and vegan cheese for the pizzas. Ok, it's not a huge menu like the all-vegan Purezza, or even got the range of our local Pizza-Me for vegan toppings. But they have gone to the effort of making a vegan menu with a few starters, a couple of pizzas (plus choice of 3 veggie toppings) and a couple of desserts, and they have checked which of their wines are vegan too. Definitely recommend the bruschetta and the rustica pizza. Garlic bread was a bit over-done, would've been nive otherwise. Big busy chain restaurant so not much atmosphere, but loads of seating so you shouldn't need to book, plus it's interesting to watch the guys in the open-plan kitchen."

"We arrived a liitle early for our 'after the rugby ' meal but this was no problem even though the 2 old ladies at our original window table were not finished with it. The staff found us another (by the kitchen) and made us very welcome. The restaurant was quite busy with a large group, families and couples but the staff coped well. The food came quickly and my classic funghi pizza was better than I 've had at Pizza Express and my husband 's rustica primavera pizza left no room for dessert. Very enjoyable, good value for money, will definitely go back. Was able to book this restaurant on top table even though the restarant booking system said it was full."

"Very disappointing. My son and I went for a nice meal out, we were told off for not waiting to be seated, we did not see the sign which was apparently outside but it was raining when we arrived so just got in quickly. We then said we would go back outside and the man said no you can sit here. Well if it wasn't a problem why are you making it one! The waiter constantly miss-gendered my son. The food was nice but nothing special and when the bill arrived it came as a shock that it had cost over £70 for two of us. I won't be going again. My son also wondered why there was no knife and were informed by another customer that Asian cuisine doesn't use them. i get that but we were in Sheffield and they do them in their Lincoln store."

"The only issue we encountered was with the app, which failed to notify Zizzi of our arrival. Fortunately, Zizzi was fantastic and accommodating, and they still managed to get us a table. "Disappointing Experience At first glance, this place appeared charming and inviting. However, our experience quickly soured due to the poor service. The staff was not only unprofessional but also seemed indifferent and lazy. Dirty tables were left unattended, and even when they eventually cleared the dishes, they didn’t bother to clean the tables properly. We were forced to use the QR code to order and pay because the staff repeatedly ignored us. Although the food itself was tasty, the portions were disappointingly small given the high prices. "Food was very good but service was pretty average. We booked through open table app but staff didn’t seem to have any records of booking. We were sat at a table but although there were 4 of us we only had cutlery for 3 people. Food was served pretty quickly but when it came to getting the desserts for the children, again no cutlery came with that so they had to improvise and eat ice cream with a fork! "It was my anniversary and I wanted to try somewhere new and somewhere reasonably priced. I must admit I did this for a last minute booking as well so this restaurant saved me. Zizzi is on High Street and delivers a superb range of food at a great price delivered with excellent service from all the polite waiters and waitresses that work there. I think that this should be considered a competitor for all the other Italian restaurants in town including 'Bella Italia '. What I liked about this restaurant was the mood it had, it wasn 't too loud and it was spacious so you could have some time to talk to your partner without feeling that somebody else is listening in on your conversation. I also appreciated the last minute booking they took. I mentioned it was my anniversary and they decorated our table and even gave us a balloon on the back of my chair, which I couldn 't wait to suck the helium out of. As far as the food goes, it tasted absolutely wonderful! It 's definitely a memorable place in terms of the food and service. If you 're thinking of going out for a nice cheap meal then visit Zizzi because it 's a fantastic restaurant that should receive a lot more credit than it gets."
