"recently visited for a birthday meal for my wife. I was particularly attracted to make their attitude towards children to eat, as is often difficult to go for a beautiful meal and find something that children will also enjoy. from the moment at which a warm greeting at the door gave us and made us feel at home. the location is quite a remote old building, with a clean modern decor. the food was excellent. we ordered the haddock and gnocchi as well as risotto for starter and then the steak and a trio boar for net. everything was perfectly boiled and to a very high standard, with melt in mouth meat. the children had chicken grujons with masque and sweet, which was very beautifully presented and they said it was the next lunch they had ever had! I would recommend a visit here and we will return. they will not be disappointed."

on a day to birthday with friends. the meal was excellent and the service also. it is on the land side, so that it is beautiful. I would definitely go 1861 for a place for a meal it is expensive, but it is worth it. they are very welcome.

I love this restaurant, the food is always amazing and the service is too notch. Always feel like you are having food at a friend's and not a restaurant because the owners make you feel so welcome. I will always recommend this place to anyone 100%. View menu

unfortunately we were the only people in the restaurant for the largest part of our visit. the waitress was a little hard in her service method, and we felt we had to go before we prefer it. eating was acceptable, but very expensive for the type of restaurant it is advertising. I know it's always a problem when they eat the only party.

Even though we had to sit outside, I was a bit comprehensible because I hate being cold. the weather stopped. the sun seemed. I took a cover. we were greeted by cat and shown on the table. kate has delivered for our round warm water bottles. it did it. eating was excellent as always. they always pull the extra special ding out of the bag.

Had a lovely family Sunday lunch here. Food was good but the biggest positive was the amazing service. They took a lot of effort to take any and all dietary requirements into account and also to cater for young children. We had a combination of the roast and alacarte menu generally everyone enjoyed their food! We also received lots of little palate cleansers in between all the food. Portions were also very generous : . View menu

1861 is a great restaurant. it is located in a quiet landscape near monmouth and abergavenny. it is family business so very friendly and there is a great love to detail that they are not elsewhere. eating and service is amazing, can literally not blame anything. it is for a higher budget, but absolutely worth the extra! it is really covid sure that brings all in rest and is really one of the best restaurants in this part of wales.

our first visit in 1861 for our wedding anniversary. a wonderful Friday! I thought that the restaurant would be busy because we 'time limited' to a 12.30 table. but very quiet...for me too quiet! this is a 'special restaurant' and the credentials of simon, the boss... explain why. the food was excellent...not 'twee ', but full of interesting aromen etc. excellent wine list. we will definitely return, but I think that my 'old' man enjoyed it more than I. it would not pay to visit 'often', but season for season. it would be good to go. service excellent by the chef's wife. I found it a little quizzier experience and can't put my finger on the ground.

"Knowing that my family and I would be in Abergavenny around lunchtime prior to a walk up Sugar Loaf, I took the rare step of being prepared by looking up a tea shop that served cream teas with clotted cream (any civilised person would of course faint into their jam at the sight of whipped! and didn't close at 2pm (as if everyone's appetite sticks to a schedule . Meeting those requirements alone would have been enough to get a good review, but I was genuinely delighted by The Little Treat. From the moment we walked in, our every need was met. We thought we'd have trouble finding a table as the only one remaining was for 2 people (there were 4 of us , but the lovely gentleman behind the counter asked if we'd like that table and then immediately brought 2 extra chairs over and ensured that we were comfortably sat with menus ordering was prompt and correct. His colleague delivered our food and, when it became clear that there would be a slight delay in my daughter's order, brought over complimentary drinks. The food was excellent neither pretentious nor poor quality. Both our hosts were unfailingly polite, but sincerely so, and genuinely warm. The service alone was worthy of note if all catering establishments were like this then the world would be a happier place but the food left us all satisfied as well. I really look forward to next time we're in Abergavenny so we can visit again."
