"If you were to make a list of the most glamorous and oversubscribed dining spots in London, what would you include? The Ivy, Covent Garden stalwart and default shorthand for an exclusive celebrity hangout, is a shoe in. Ditto Scott 's in Mayfair, where if you manage to get a booking between the hours of 7 and 9 you are surely something above a mere mortal. There 's Sheeky 's, favoured of West End stars and a very lucky minority of their audiences, and perhaps also Le Caprice, somewhere that generally hides a good number of influential and famous notables behind its lace curtains. And all of the above, astonishingly, are run by the same people Caprice Holdings. If we are to measure a restaurant 's success on its popularity and I can 't think of a better way of doing it then surely they are doing something right. It 's all very well having the best food in Britain but if you can 't sell yourself, if you can 't make the whole package of visiting a restaurant an event , something desirable"

Other than the exceptional steak my starter of pan fried veal sweet breads with wild mushrooms and poached egg was well put together if a little average. The baked rice pudding with Yorkshire rhubarb was every bit as homely and delicious as it should have been though.

There 's nothing particularly 'now ' about 34; the area 's not edgy, the menu 's familiar fare, the decor 's unadventurous, bookings are taken and the live pianist is from a whole other era. Neophiles will hate it, but for exactly that reason it has 'instant classic ' written all over it.

I really enjoyed the vintage American style decor and it felt like something from a movie. starting the pumpkin soup was very nice, as the macaroni cheese and dessert, followed. overall a pleasant experience, but not the meat options tastes, it is hard to deliver an honest assessment of what they are known.

the elegant restaurant of caprice holdings is known especially for its organic steaks and season game and fish and has a less carnivorous side, with a large selection of salates and light gears, as well as many ingenious options (they make a middle mac n cheese.) their waking menu is particularly dreamy, served brunch sprinkles of icing and wiping in a warm old

the inner had a very demanding feeling, but at the same time the service was a little slow, we had to ask several times if our order would be taken, we had the yellow thun fish tare as starter, which was well melted in the mouth, for which the england bone-in-ribbed eye ( perfectly boiled,) the lobster makkaroni (a bit too creamy for me) and meatball. I recommend the 34 doughnuts for dessert they come warm and fluffy.

Prepare to spend.. On the night I went here, my client insisted on moving, twice. We ended up next the piano. I suggest that you try not to. The food was unmemorable. This is a formula restaurant for people with quite a lot of money who want to be seen in all the right places and who don't mind paying over the odds for the privilege. I'm not sure why we need a doorman – the whole thing seems a little bit up itself. The room itself is unusual – the shape of a very long shoebox you are very crammed in and it isn't the place for private conversation. People did seem to be having a very good time though maybe it was just me with a scowl because I couldn't actually hear myself think.

Ask for a round table. You might otherwise have to move three times, like I did on the visit before this one. They favour the run of tables close together style of dining, so that you get to know your neighbour, whether or not you want to. A round table will take you away from all that. A round table like the one shared by B and I, with a lamp in the middle and a cord attached, draped, somewhat bizarrely, across the table. If I’m not wrong (and I often am, ask anyone who knows me) this is the first restaurant in the Caring Group that he has opened on his own. The others in the Caring stable, which includes J Sheekey, Scott’s, The Ivy and Le Caprice, he bought fully formed from Rex Associates...

Not much imagination went into naming 34, its address is 34 Grosvenor Square; such lack of creative facility does not bode well. And the address, well, that too sends a message, for as one London guide says: From its earliest days Grosvenor Square attracted residents of high social status, over half of whom, until well into the 20th century, were people of title. The square has never deteriorated socially. Are commoners even allowed? Finally, as part of Caprice Holdings Ltd, a group that includes Scott's less than five minutes walk away where hedge fund managers being seen and being rich seemed to us on our visit there more important than the food served, are we simply in the wrong place to...
