"What can I say , what an amaZing meal firstly let me praise Laura and Kyle our two servers for the evening , polite ,attentive and nothing is too much bother gold star to them both , the starter we both had was a strange one but I would recommend don't deny it until you try it ! peach compote , melon with sorbet ours was blood orange . Wow wow wow , the plate was stunning it tasted even better, fresh and palate cleansing it's doesn't need the flaked almonds , my main course was the grilled chicken with chestnut mushrooms, sunblush tomatoes , green beans ,tenderstem broccoli and mash with jus , the portion is big the jus slightly strong for me but not offensive , my friend Dot had the salmon , beautiful salmon that was cooked to perfection it came with pesto ,greens ,mash and cherry tomatoes, this was eaten with much gusto, the venue is busy but yet maintains a level intimate dining . I myself couldn't eat anymore but Dot had dessert , she opted for the speculoos cheesecake ..it didn't disappoint, light and fluffy with a delicious biscuit base and was accompanied with speculoos ice cream , whipped cream, blackberries, white chocolate fan , wafers sprinkled with dehydrated raspberries and some chocolate sauce. I had iced water Dot had soda water blackcurrant. I won this meal in a raffle and boy it is the best prize so far"

First class service from begining to end, lovely meals if a bit pricey for my pocket good touch to offer a carry out ox for my wife who was unable to finish her meal.

The restaurant looks quite trendy and the atmosphere was good. However sadly that’s where the positives end. The staff were rude and disinterested, the service was poor (yes, it was busy, but that doesn’t explain how slow staff were to respond), the food was bland and overpriced. Won’t be back.

Had a wonderful meal with my friend this evening. The food was first class and great portions, especially given it was the Christmas set menu. Personally thought it was very reasonably priced also. The service from Kiera was excellent also, I always feel good service is important, very attentive and not rushed. Will definitely return.

Was at Blues yesterday to celebrate our anniversary. We both had chicken with haggis bon bons followed by sticky toffee pudding. The food was absolutely amazing as always. Thank you to Courtney and Julie for looking after us. They were absolutely wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble. These two girls are a terrific asset to the Blues Team. View menu

Went for lunch with family and was delighted to be able to order gluten free and diary (cows milk) free versions of food. All you have to do is ask. Very quick but sensitive service from charming staff. Our starters were substantial but we still managed to scoff all of our main courses. Cajun chicken in a sublime sauce, cod wrapped in pancetta what more could you ask for. Alcohol free cocktails were delicious, especially the Designated Driver cocktail.

We were a party of 7 adults 2 children and a baby. The food was great. Fantastic selection. The kids were taken care of as well with their colouring sheet and menu. All the staff were excellent. We were served by Jake who went above and beyond. Nothing was too much for him. He was great with the kids. One of the best wait staff I have ever had. He was amazing. A great night was had and we will definitely be back. This could be our new go to restaurant.

Another fantastic pre Xmas night at Blues Restaurant. Absolutely love it! This is our third year in a row for our festive meal. Great food, attentive service and lovely atmosphere. I had a specific request this year as my elderly mum had had a bad year, healthwise, her appetite wasn't great and she was a wee bit anxious about venturing out. After speaking to Laura, the manager, all was well. Mum's meal was perfectly sized, sensitively dished up (so she wasn't embarrassed) and she scoffed the lot! Perfect example of a manager listening and happy to oblige. This made for a perfect evening. Well done View menu

We recently got married in Kilmarnock registry office (just 4 of us) and the next day arranged a secret wedding reception at the park hotel. The small number of guests invited thought they were coming to a 60th birthday party. I cannot thank the team here enough. From Melissa who helped us arrange it, the dining room staff who kept hush all through a late lunch for family, to the young staff who welcomed guests at the door with a drink and tried hard to keep a straight face when people realised what was going on! It didn’t matter at all we were only a small wedding and we felt very well taken care of.

Food good although the portion looked a tad small it was surprisingly filling and tasted lovely. No complaints there. Service a bit on the slow side, how long does it take to get drinks or your order taken….the answer to both is 15/20 mins. Yes it was busy but there seemed to be a lack of urgency….there’s a fine line between being rushed and things taking too long in a restaurant….this was on the too long side of the scale. Value for money slightly expensive (where isn’t ? but probably worth it as the food was lovely. Noise levels/ambiance a busy Friday night, that was reflected in the level of noise which was pretty high. Could do with some noise dampers of some description…if you’re hard o...

"Visited using an Itison voucher for steak surf turf. Decided to have soup for starters which was advertised as being served with freshly baked bread. The soup was served in a very small bowl and was tasteless. The bread was anything but fresh and felt and tasted like it had been lying in the back of a cupboard for a fortnight. Now for the steak. We asked for sirloin but was told there was none left and we would have to take ribeye. The steak arrived and one look put us off. This was certainly not ribeye and was more like some sort of reconstituted beef. I would have to say that it is the worst steak we’ve ever been served. The surf part was 3 sad looking small prawns that had been placed on top of the steak. The owner asked us how it was and we told him how dissatisfied and disappointed we were. To this comment he then became quite aggressive and told us to leave. He obviously doesn’t like criticism. We had our meal on a Saturday night and we’re the only people in the restaurant. Surely this must tell you something. We had booked the dining room but was told it was closed due to lack of clientele and that we would have to sit in the bar. We had been regular visitors and know that they recently lost their head chef who was very good. The food is now very substandard and nothing like the delicious food that was served by the previous chef. Come on Sorn…you need to do much better!!"

"On holiday in the area and found this place online for somewhere to eat. Menu looked great. Arrived and the impression we got with the mess around the building continued indoors. Lady who took us to our table was lovely but then it went downhill again quickly when we were given the menu definitely not what it was online). It was litterly falling apart and only a fraction of what was on the online menu. We ordered food and while waiting 2 women with 5 children came in. Noise from the children was heard as soon as they got to the front door. I don't believe any of the children were at fault as the women didn't try to get them to be just a little quieter they both just shouted louder to hear each other. Both my teenage daughter and I expected the waitress to ask them to maybe just turn the volume down just a little but it turned out she knew them and like the mums she just shouted louder to be heard! Food arrived hot. Steak pie was very tasty but pizza was the kind I can buy in supermarket for about 50p. Desserts of cheesecake and sticky toffe pudding both tasted odd. We didn't eat them and just left to get away from the noise. I totally understand the staff can't dictate who frequents their establishment but they could ask rowdy customers to lower the volume instead of shouting over them. Food was nothing to shout about and we left wishing we had just stopped at the local chip shop instead"

"As we were staying at the Dumfries House Lodge for a couple of nights we took the opportunity to visit the Library Restaurant which is a short stroll away from the guesthouse in Dumfries House itself. Little did we know as we approached the magnificent Robert Adam building in it’s glory on a bright and peaceful evening that we were about to have a private dining experience! By absolute chance there were no other reservations that evening and we had the restaurant to ourselves. Despite my attempt to convince my wife that I had paid a fortune for the privilege I don’t think she was entirely taken in for more than a few seconds. We understand that the following night was fully booked. The setting is quite unique as you are led from the visitors entrance through to the library which had a cosy atmosphere with a log fire burning, the grand mantelpiece surround, the comfortable settee, subtle lighting and a small bar. With our bottle of NZ Pinot Noir ordered and a glass poured we were able to browse the menu in comfort. There were five options for each course and all reasonably priced from starters at £6 £7, mains £12 £22 (steak) and dessert at £5 or cheese for £7. The young waiter, who was attentive but discrete throughout the evening was friendly and efficient. The dining area itself beyond was lined with book shelves and ten or so tables stylishly set with good spacing between although in the circumstances there were no issues with other diners! For starters my wife had Goats cheese with red onion and tomatoes whilst I opted for the Confit Duck Pie with duck scratching and salad. The duck was served in a ramekin style dish topped with mashed potato which was a surprise although the duck was tasty, as was my wife’s goats cheese. Mains for my wife was Chicken Ballantine stuffed with Shitaki served with parmesan gnocchi and spinach which she enjoyed. I had monkfish in butter, served with puy lentils, artichoke puree and herb sauce. The fish was delicious however puy lentils may be an acquired taste which I unfortunately haven’t acquired a taste for as yet and there were quite a lot of them! Dessert consisted of Lemon amoretti cheesecake with a berry compote for my wife and White chocolate panna cotta and a doughnut with an apple sauce for myself. My wife thought the berry compote drowned the other flavours and I thought my dish was just ok. Full marks for the setting, food presentation, service and pricing (our bill including wine was £85 ex tip) but we were slightly disappointed with the flavours of some of the food overall in comparison to our previous meal on the estate at the former Stables Restaurant. At time of our recent visit the restaurant was only open Thursday to Sunday. It is a possibility that in future this restaurant may only be available for private functions, with another being opened within the hospitality centre so we were glad in the meantime to have dined in the House in such exclusive circumstances. Sadly we were escorted off the premises!"
