"We chose the Bolton Arms for our Sunday lunch as we were staying in nearby Carperby and had heard it was good. There's another review link on their website which raves about the food. So there was a lot to live up to and it didn't fail. The 2 children's meals were huge and very reasonably priced. Meatballs and spaghetti plus Chicken gougons, fries and peas. Two adults chose pork, one beef and one ham roast dinners. Each came with Yorkshire pudding and plenty of gravy. Separately, cauliflower cheese, creamy leeks and brocoli. Plenty to go round everyone. The meats were all fabulous. The pork crackling was crisp and tasty. There was only one member of staff front of house initially. The amazing Daisy.. She went serenely from bar to tables and kitchen without panic or fluster as the pub became much busier than they expected. A second waiter appeared later and the chef (owner) was kept busy too. We liked that the menu was purely Roast dinners (12 2.30) and saved us any choice dilemmas. The full menu is available from 5.30 None of us had any room to sample the desserts unfortunately. But we left satied and ready for an afternoon nap. Perfect Sunday!"

Just been today for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely fantastic, infact, the best I have had for a very long time. The staff are superb .

Had a lovely 3 night stay this week for our anniversary. Martin and the team really looked after us. The food, drink and ambience were amazing. Dog friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely go again. Highly recommend this pub- hidden gem!

Now renamed The Village Pub Redmire this is what a village pub should be. You can go and have a pint and a game of cards or like I did have a nice Sunday lunch and food is available throughout the week. The Sunday roast was absolutely brilliant, great vegetables cooked nicely and a lovely bit of pork washed down with a first class pint of Guinness View menu

We popped into this pub for lunch while driving back from working in Richmond. It was a lovely experience in this very traditional pub. I had the smoked salmon and avocado salad and my wife had the homemade pie. Both were lovely and tasty and the service was very friendly. I would highly recommend this pub for a very traditional British pub experience, Cheers!

A good place for kids with an easy and affordable kids menu and a small outdoor play area. Basic menu with warm-up Asian food as an option for adults too. Not great for vegetarians or gluten free options, though there were a few dishes on the menu. Easy parking. Lots of shouty sweary adults in the kids play area. Not very attractive or picturesque, but very friendly and helpful staff.

Had a brilliant time at the Bolton Arms, dropped in for a meal with our family and dog. The staff were very welcoming and the food was just fantastic and it's wheelchair accessible. The food was quick and delicious with fresh homemade chicken nuggets for the kids and steak and burgers for the adults it was brilliant they even provide home made chocolates with warm drinks! Couldn't recommend this place enough! View menu

When we arrived, we were told that the kitchen was closing the following day for a couple of weeks so the menu may be limited as stocks were being run down. We did worry a bit what that would mean in terms of service and what we could choose. We need not have worried, whilst our first choice meals were 'out ' our second choice meals were very good indeed. Steak and ale pie, (the last steak) and lamb were excellent simple food done well. And with a very friendly service.

Food under seasoned, not salted making the food a bit tasteless. Staff not very good, apart from the young girl who did her best. Tried to pay and told we had to go to the bar. Asked for the bill at the bar and then went back to the table to get the money together. We could have walked out without paying as there was no one behind the bar, they were out of sight and came round when we rang the bell. Paid £92.00 for 4 main courses and some beers. It was not a pleasant dining experience, it was overpriced, under seasoned food and we will not be going again. The prices are going up and up every time we go and they will price themselves out because it’s not worth it.

"We arrived frazzled because we drove around the grounds in the dark not knowing where to go. The signage inside the grounds is no help at all. Allow time for this if you haven't been before. Fortunately we had because we wanted a pre dinner drink in the bar before we ate. Even when we did arrive we weren't sure if we had arrived at the back entrance because we stood for ages with no welcome or acknowledgement. A very disappointing start to our evening. When someone did come they didn't take our coats. We went through to the snug for a drink. They gave us menus and went away. Later came back for our order. We got our drinks and ordered our food. Then very quickly afterwards we were asked to go through to the restaurant. We had only had a couple of sips of our drinks and it was still prior to the time we had actually booked our table for (7.30pm). We felt rushed. The food came and was fabulous. I had the beetroot starter which had beautifully cooked beetroots and some pickles. It also had a grain through it. I couldn't remember what the grain was so asked a member of staff. She didn't know so went away to ask and came back saying it was probably buckwheat....probably! My main was pork belly with parsnip and an apple reduction. The pork could have been cooked a little longer. I think belly needs to be very well cooked until really soft. The top skin was impossible to cut through as it was not crisp, I couldn't eat it. A steak knife would have helped. Having said that it was still a good dish which could have been excellent. We had sides of mashed potato and greens with pickles both superb. The presentation of both dishes was innovative and inviting. Portion size was good too not tiny portions of fiddled with food which I much prefer. The service was not as polished as the food. There was no obvious manager and we had different servers which is never quite as good as one for the entire meal. The servers were scruffy not appropriate for such a lovely building. Overall it was OK but could have been superb with more attention to some details. Service: 2 Location: 3"
