"my wife and I had a very nice lunch on Saturday, but I was not served what I ordered. the menu had changed recently and I was not advised when I ordered. I ordered a sharing plate that consisted of a selection of cold meat, rillettes, brot and a baked camembert with caramelized wobbles. this was still on the menu in the restaurant and also on the cafe rouge website in the internet. what I was served were six sausages, garlic bread, hummus and a baked cader. it was nice, but I don't think it was worth the same price as the choice of cold meat, etc. I think the personal should have said that the menu would have changed if I had ordered and I had ordered something else. as usual the service was first class and all staff was very helpful and friendly."

I recently found myself in Canterbury for a few days, and I ended up eating here three times.

Be very careful if you are sucked into Cafe RougeIt looks appealing on the outside but appearances are very deceptiveIt is well named.

I booked online and when we got there they did not have the reservation. I did phone a couple of days before to confirm my booking they were busy. I was told they would look and check in a bit, if there wasn’t a booking they would book it in. They obviously didn’t do this, luckily there was space. View menu

The overall experience at the restaurant was good, but I was confused by the bill. The total amount charged was higher than what was listed on the bill. The waitress was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation, so I decided not to pursue the issue further and simply paid. The discrepancy in the bill has left me hesitant to return to this restaurant in the future, as a bill should always make sense.

The steaks were perfectly cooked with sauce served on the side, and the desserts were delightful. The restaurant was not too crowded when we visited at 5:30 pm, but it was nearly fully booked for the 8:00 pm slot. We enjoyed the house red wine, although it was on the paler side. Thanks to a discount from a gourmet company, the meal was reasonably priced. The waitress provided excellent service, so we would definitely return to this restaurant.

"After never visiting Canterbury before we where looking for somewhere to have a late lunch, we came across this place which looked ok, upon entering the back room we were offered to take a seat in the front area and someone will be with us. We asked what food there was and we where sarcastically shown the food on the blackboard, after choosing what we wanted the polite man went off and put the order in. We did feel that because the man had asked a couple of questions to another member of staff that he was spoke down too a bit. Anyway after placing the order and what we wanted the food came out it wasn’t correct but because it seemed like we were going to interrupt the people in the back room we just took what we had. It was nice food though. When we went to pay we hadn’t noticed that there wasn’t a price list so when we asked for the bill we were told that it was donation, what we thought was enough, it wasn’t posted anywhere and it took us by surprise as we where standing at the till, I was going to pay in cash but was told they don’t take cash so I had to give my donation in card by telling the person how much we where donating. After plucking a figure out of air as we wasn’t prepared we paid and left. Upon leaving we felt that the person we paid thought we hadn’t paid enough and wasn’t happy with the amount but after working out what we would have paid properly we worked out that we had paid more than what it might have been if there was a proper price on everything. Overall it has a great ethos and it’s great for giving people the experience that they need to be in a working environment but they need to show the price or tell customers first that it’s donations and card only."
