Shame the standards for food have dropped two meals two beers £30 and the previously cooked chips had not been recooked and were cold, no gravy boat for the steak pie had to ask. Not what it used to be, too popular, bit of a gamble regarding quality.

Branton Book Club (all 21 of us) had a fantastic evening here last night. The food was delicious and the staff were amazing. They couldn't do enough for us and were so attentive. We can't wait to book again as everyone enjoyed it so much. Thanks to you all for making our evening so special.

I absolutely adore this restaurant and their beer selection. After shopping with my wife, we decided to stop in for a drink. I enjoyed a couple pints of Black Sheep beer while my wife savored a perfectly chilled glass of white wine. This village pub is well-maintained and has a charming atmosphere. A perfect spot for a relaxing evening out.

Dropped in for a couple of beers and a snack yesterday. I had a couple of pints of Black Sheep and the best BLT I had ever tasted in my life. It was generously filled, plump and sumptuous NAT to mention absolutely delicious. As usual the staff were great, the atmosphere very friendly and the surroundings quintessentially English. It never fails to impress

Booked a table at lunchtime for our 50th anniversary of meeting. We began with a delicious prawn cocktail followed by Steaks (cooked perfectly) , chips, peas, tomato, home cooked onion rings and pepper sauce. It was all excellent. We enjoyed a good bottle of merlot to accompany it. We decided on the Baileys cheesecake for pudding. Home made and was lovely. Rounded the meal off with a good coffee. Couldn’t fault anything. The atmosphere, cleanliness and staff were great.

My husband and I visited the Eagle and Child for dinner on Saturday evening. We ordered drinks and were seated at a small table near the door. My husband went to the bar to order a jacket potato for me, as well as garlic mushrooms and a steak and kidney pudding. When our food arrived, my husband discovered a piece of a blue glove in his meal. We informed the staff and they quickly removed our food, including mine as I felt nauseous. They returned to our table and gave my husband £20.20 as compensation. We left without finishing our drinks, feeling sick and disappointed. I emailed The Eagle and Child but received no apology. It was a disgusting experience and we will not be returning.

We stopped by around 2 pm on a Sunday afternoon hoping to have Sunday lunch. Despite all the tables being reserved, we were offered seats in the bar area if we could find one. Luckily, a table for two was just opening up. The friendly girl behind the bar warmly greeted us and the atmosphere was great overall. I enjoyed a couple of glasses of Pinot while my husband had a pint of Black Sheep. We both decided on Sunday lunch, although there were other menu options available. I chose the lamb and my husband had the beef, both dishes were generously portioned and delicious home-cooked meals. The carrot and swede combination was particularly tasty. The homemade Yorkshire puddings were flavorful an...

"The welcome we received was pleasant, although not very personal, and our details were not checked, which was surprising considering how difficult it was to secure a reservation. The restaurant is not licensed, so guests are welcome to bring their own drinks. My husband and I brought two bottles of champagne, but we were not offered an ice bucket and were given standard wine glasses instead of flutes. The food was served promptly, starting with an amuse bouche of butternut squash veloute with a creamy accompaniment served in egg boxes. The chef explained the dish himself, and it was delicious. The second course, an aged rice dish reminiscent of a soupy risotto flavored with parmesan and espresso, was my least favorite. I found it poorly presented and the coffee flavor didn't come through well. The third course, a beautifully cooked lamb cutlet finished on a barbecue outside, was accompanied by flavorful lentils. However, the broccoli that came with it was plain and could have used some additional flavor. The dish was not explained to us. The fourth dish, which I initially thought was eel, turned out to be smoked eel and was served with beetroot. This was one of my favorite dishes of the night. We were served two desserts: a warm chocolate foam with orange sorbet and a deconstructed rhubarb custard with pink meringue pieces, both of which were delicious. The bill was not presented to us, so we followed the lead of other guests who left cash on the table as they left. My husband had a nice chat with the chef, and I joined in after a visit to the restroom. The chef was very knowledgeable and skilled with flavors. Overall, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of personality in presenting and explaining each dish. The experience felt somewhat impersonal and lacked interest. I believe guest interaction is crucial, so my tip would be for the restaurant to take the time to engage with guests, even if it means spending less time in the kitchen. I did not give a perfect score due to the presentation and slightly underwhelming flavors in some dishes. I believe that in fine dining, every element of the dish should be bursting with flavor. Despite this, we had an enjoyable evening and would return if we are able to secure a reservation."
