"What I had: octopus, pork steak, riz au lait, a rather ho-hum white wineWhat my mother had: clams, sea bass, riz au laitI made sure to make a reservation months in advance so that my mother can try Paris bistronomie. In 2014, I had two holidays in Paris: one in August for my birthday and the other in December, I failed in that the restaurant was closed for their own holidays. I made sure that in 2017 I would get to taste Stephan Jego's cooking. We were not disappointed, all the dishes were phenomenal, from my imaginings I thought the food would be bursting with umami but I found the dishes relatively light and yet comforting. All the ingredients, especially the meat and seafood tasted as they should with little flavours adding accents to the dishes, it reminded me of Filipino homecooking in the 90s.Our favourites were the clams (generous serving with fragrant sauce), pork steak (moist, pink, seasoned perfectly), and the riz au lait (give me more). Wines were pricey and I got stuck with a single bottle that I didn't enjoy very much. Lesson learned, next time I would go for the tasting menu with wine pairing."
