"Ma Biche – very good restaurant on Rue Véron in Montmartre. Featuring organic products, natural wines. They take traditional dishes and change them into something a bit different. We started with a crème caramel – with asparagus. So it had elements of the dessert version but veered off to the savoury. The asparagus was thinly sliced and crisped. This gave an earthy flavour that worked well with the sweetness of the custard. Then razor clams in their own broth. This was much similar to the way mussels and often made, in white wine. The razor clams were a bit chewy, very fresh and had a flavour somewhat similar to lobster. We soaked up the broth with beautiful home baked bread (organic grain from Brittany). Then a modern take on duck à l`orange – grilled duck leg and thigh, just a bit pink, with black lentils, orange slices and rind, shallots – the flavours were vivid and fresh, much better than the overcooked versions I've had previously. Then for dessert a pear soup (basically puréed pear) with home made almond ice cream. The Breton organic beer from Lancelot Brewery had a lot of body and a bit of sweetness, so it went well with this meal, along with some natural wine which was the house brand. The place was packed with a mix of probably 75% French and 25% tourists."
