"Afternoon Tea, very disappointed with the food and service. Food was rabbit portions and cakes were hard. Fruit scones were rock solid and when asked for some more we never got any apology. The new ones which were then brought out were hot from being microwaved. Nothing tasted fresh or home made. The waitress just sat us down and no explanation of the food being served, they were also constantly coughing which was off putting when serving food. They dissappeared and we were left with no service for a good 20 mins, to then find out the waitress was no longer on shift. We went for the 'high tea ' for an extra £10 which was literally a cheap sausage roll and a very small quiche to share plus a tiny cup of soup each... The table was wonky so had some tissue under the leg (see photo! . The hotel and grounds looks lovely just a real shame about the experience with the food and table service. We would definitely not visit again."

Lovely 3 course meal with nice wine and ice cold lager. Nice spacious dining room. Very pleasant and attentive staff on hand. Tasty menu choices for all I believe.

I visited with my partner in October and he had booked 2 travel zoo visits so I waited to give a review after both. The hotel is a beautiful building in gorgeous grounds, the main Hotel areas have been refurbished and all look beautiful, although...

When I booked, I was not asked about allergies so I expected that this would be asked on arrival. It wasn't, so I was surprised when we were just presented with cakes and finger sandwiches without discussion. When I say finger sandwiches, they were just... View menu

A wonderful place for a special meal. My wife visited for a Sunday lunch. The set menu was enough to satisfy a range of preferences. The service was swift and attentive. The food a delight. This seems to be something of a hidden gem just outside Derby in lush countryside.

Dining area is spacious and well laid out and both dinner and breakfast were first class. Good menu choice for dinner, food very tasty and presented well with service from Freya which was excellent. Breakfast is buffet service with lots of choice between cold/hot food and various hot/cold drinks. View menu

During our recent visit to Makeney Hall, we had a wonderful dining experience. The food prepared and presented by Dan and Sally in the kitchen was exceptional, and the service provided by Oliver, Luke, and Ben was top-notch. It was a truly enjoyable evening, and we would like to extend our gratitude to all of these individuals for their excellent service.

I went to this restaurant for Sunday dinner using a Groupon deal and was impressed with the menu selection. I chose the lamb while my wife ordered the beef. The only downside was that the lamb did not come with Yorkshire pudding like the beef did. Both dishes came with only a small amount of gravy, which was confusing to me. However, the included glass of wine was a generous portion and of good quality.

"we enjoyed another very pleasant dinner at the Dog’ in pentrich recently. it is a very civilized but relaxed escaping area, and the type of place where people are miles for, for the culinary experience traveling and with good ground. eating is good. the dining room is spacious, contemporary and beautifully furnished with a relaxed ambiente. also the adjacent bar area is very cozy and cozy. we were warmly welcomed and immediately shown on our table. the service was attentive and pleasant, without being overlaid or intrusive. our meals were very pleasant and we enjoyed the selection of things we had (start, head and dessert). However, it seemed to be some unconsistencies with a portion size. with the appetizers the leek and the potato portion was very small a piece laek about two centimeters long filled with cheese and in a sea of sauce to convey the grasp of “more”. the crispy szechuan cauliflower and aubergine, on the other hand, contained large parts of the two components of the teller. similar to the net, the green thai chicken contained three very large portions of huh in different shapes: a large chicken breast as the main component of the Thai chicken shell, accompanied by a huge serving of shredded chicken in rice, and a huge Bao beer filled with a large piece of baked chicken. while the various components were delicious, it was just chicken overload, almost like three main dishes as one, and much too much. the same applies to the puddings we have chosen. the dog inn trifle was a huge bowl with lemon-rossel sponge, with white chocolate-creuzard, and celestial gel and sorbet. the yorkshire rhubarb cheesecake, on the other hand, was a very small roll of cheesecake with a puppy game of rhubarb sorbet and a few pieces of poached rhubarb. our meals were certainly delicious, and we enjoyed them. the hanger steak was cooked nicely after a discussion about it; it was clearly stated on the menu that the hanger steak was ‘Served ‘Pink or well Done’, but we were informed that it could not be ordered well. which condition is then on the menu? the dog is worth looking. it is in the beautiful and historical village pentrich, on the b1016 between the towns ripley and alfreton in derbyshire. we're coming back."
